I know exactly where you are at...it all feels so unfair sometimes...and the whole mother/wife/housewife thing is such hard work sometimes.
It does help to look at it in a different way...it helps you feel more of a team rather than the one stuck at home all the time.
It gets quite fun to organise your home and FLYing gets addictive!!
Once the initial crap is cleared out, and the clutter is under control it is way easier.
I remember one day...after having a row with hubby about something or another, sat on the floor in the kitchen surrounded by kids...mess and stress, it got to the point where I felt I was going mad! I decided I either packed my stuff....or pulled myself together...it was my dad who actually made me think of it in a different light (bless him)
So I grabbed a black bag and spent all day throwing out the crap....If I didn't use it...didn't love it...or if it had dust on it...it went! I felt lots better for it!

Anyway...glad you are feeling better
I'd better stop wittering on and do some work!!!

LattVansinniglangsam · 09/09/2007 10:23

Latt....blah blah blah actually means SlightlyMadSlug.....it wouldn't innterpret "Scary" on babelfish.

I am pleased that my Bra is infamous

McDreamy · 09/09/2007 10:26

Me too! Thanks for listening. How many children do you have? Have a good day anyway, I'll not take up anymore of your time and use more of your advice

ludaloo · 09/09/2007 10:29

I've got 3 kids... 2,4 and 6 years....

I'm glad you feel better about things...I'm glad i actually helped!!

ludaloo · 09/09/2007 10:30

Lol @ slightly mad slug...you should be that instead!!

ludaloo · 09/09/2007 10:34

I've also noticed...that when I am happy everyone else in the house is happy too! If I was in a bad mood, then dh often was...and the kids were a mare too....
So I try to stay as happy as is humanly possible, and we all get on much better.

If you need anyone to do all the chores with, then I'm here most days! and all the FLY peeps are wonderful...really they are

SlightlyMadSweden · 09/09/2007 10:48

I used to be Slug...I think I will try this for a bit.

Today I have

Got up at 6:40 cos thats why time DD3 decided to get up
emptie dishwasher
put a load in tumble
put a load in washer
put clothes on airer away

played Silent night a few times on recorder .

I have actually told DP that now I am decluttering I am trying to keep clutter away by stopping it build up. I havn't told him I am FLYing . He is starting to pick things up and put them away which is a start as for DCs I am just constantly on their back to pick this up, take it pstairs and put it away...hopefully they will get the message soon .

SlightlyMadSweden · 09/09/2007 10:49

PS I'm sorry for not bolding peoples name...I will catch up with thettiquette of FLYing at some point...

babypowder · 09/09/2007 12:00

Hello FGS

OK, I'm going to try. I will shine my sink today and spend 2 minutes on a hotspot.

Wish me luck, ladies

FunkyGlassSlipper · 09/09/2007 12:04

yay, glad you came bp

SlightlyMadSweden · 09/09/2007 12:36

Welcome to FLYbabies and welcome tot eh wider world of MN babypowder

Kelly would not be pleased wit me today. I have only just got dressed

FunkyGlassSlipper · 09/09/2007 13:16

@ slug.

I have been dressed for ages

I now have wooden venetian blinds in my living room and they look great

Bouquetsofdynomite · 09/09/2007 13:28

Oh go on then, I'll give old Marla another go, what with dd starting school this month etc.
I have already done 1 load of washing today and put away my mountain of clean clothes that has been building up. Plus made 2 pies. Off to a party at teatime, will try and shine my sink tonight.
Plus I have a headstart on the bathroom because DH is decorating in there, good motivation for me to turn over a new leaf.

numptysmummy · 09/09/2007 13:34

I really need to join (again). I used to be a nanny and i managed to look after kids and keep a house clean and tidy so why can't i do it in my own home???? Dh will never let me have more kids if i don't pull me finger out!

jabberwocky · 09/09/2007 16:17

I'll give it a try, too. Dh is constantly on me about all the excess "stuff" we have. Our nursery has become part nursery/part storage room

FunkyGlassSlipper · 09/09/2007 17:03

I feel like a cult recruiter

FunkyGlassSlipper · 09/09/2007 17:09

TYo the new flybabies here is Slug's beautiful summary...

Start by shining your sink tonight.
Tomorrow Shine you sink and do a hotspot
Day after Shine your sink o a 2 min hotspot + a 5 min declutter
Day after Day after Shine your sink o a 2 min hotspot + a 5 min declutter + get your clothes out for next day
Day after Day after Day after Shine your sink o a 2 min hotspot + a 5 min declutter + get your clothes out for next day + make beds

And then you will be with us...it is about adding something new to our routine, and we havn't actually added something on all of the 16 days, some days we are just suposed to read a webpage or something....go on, get your Cillit Bang out and shine your sink...

Jas · 09/09/2007 18:00

FGS - Have you been crashing random threads and draging new people over?
Well done youGin

Ludaloo I've had a rubbish afternoon, and reading your take on being a SAHM has made me feel a bit better about things, so thaankyou

I'm off to shine my sink.

OP posts:
FunkyGlassSlipper · 09/09/2007 19:03

mmm, I dont really like gin Jas . Maybe a bacardi instead.

jabber and bp are my postnatal friends yes, I have friends on MN.

Right guys, I'm on a roll.

I just did a 5 minute tid uo the ivng room and ot D1 to help so all toys are now in the playroom and not on my living room floor. This, combined with my shiny new blinds (oh, did I mention my new venetian blinds^ already??) means my livingi room looks like a grown up space. I cant believe it.

For those of you who dont have an evening routine yet, then here is mine

Night time routine

  1. Take clean clothes upstairs & put away
  2. Load dishwasher & put on
  3. Wipe kitchen surfaces and shine sink
  4. 2 minute hotspot
  5. Brush teeth, hair and wash
  6. Get clothes out for tomorrow
  7. DRINK SOME WATER

I'm about to start it and willhave it complete by bedtime. I do it in 2-5 minute bursts.

FunkyGlassSlipper · 09/09/2007 19:04

wtf is wrong with my keyboard?

That should have read :
tidY uP the LIVINGroom and Got D1 to help so all ...

accessorizewithbabysick · 09/09/2007 19:53

Alright, fgs, you've got another one from postnatal! I've done a bit of this before but what's the difference between a hotspot and a declutter? And do we just do them anywhere or using zones at this point? I think I have actually done a declutter today and was putting out my clothes anyway. Yay, I'm better than I thought! I'll go shine my sink, it certainly needs it!

FunkyGlassSlipper · 09/09/2007 21:33

Hi AQ - dont worry about zones for the moment. Get stuck into babysteps, shine your sink and get into and the idea of a morning and evening routine.

I have just learnt that I can empty the dishwasher in the exact time it takes to boil a full kettle

accessorizewithbabysick · 09/09/2007 21:36

Rats, forgot to shine the sink. Carried away with active convos here. Sigh.
Yes, it's amazing how quick you can be with a dishwasher. I hate it so do it as quickly as possible! I like to set myself little targets like that as let's face it housework is soooo boring!

FunkyGlassSlipper · 09/09/2007 21:44

I totally agree which is why I use this system. I like the fact someone else tells me what rooms I have to clean and it is great to do it in small chunks.

I cant bear endless to do lists that I never manage to get through so if I do it a bit at a time thenit feels less self-defeating iykwim.
