Did you do two coats?

NotAnOtter · 03/09/2007 11:53

yes three as advised on tin - after one it was seriously yellow so i think the subsequents have maybe made things slightly better

I'd either keep tying to re-coat until the colour gets better or go and buy a darker shade and go over with that?

NadineBaggott · 03/09/2007 11:56

I'd contact Ronseal and tell them you're not happy!

Supposed to 'do what it says on the tin'

yellow is not natural.

other than dewaxing I'd say your stuffed!

WendyWeber · 03/09/2007 11:56

Are they pine? If so they will darken with age - when you buy new waxed pine furniture it starts out that cheesy yellow colour and gradually gets browner.

Trouble with wax is that it's harder to remove than eg varnish.

NotAnOtter · 03/09/2007 11:56

yes i did wonder that ledodgy
wondererd if 'antique' would have been more brown but a, scared witless now

Get some and test it on an inconspicuous corner.

NotAnOtter · 03/09/2007 11:58

oh Wendy please dont!!!!!

"antique pine" tends to be orange...

(My fire surround is orange. I was pissed off! I believe the best colour to go for is "walnut", if they do it - but whatever you get, test it in a corner and be prepared to cut your losses and try something else)

NotAnOtter · 03/09/2007 11:59

yes could do that ledodgy....

mahoooooooooooooooooooooosive rug?

ledodgy · 03/09/2007 12:02

antique pine does look orange

fortyplus · 03/09/2007 12:02

Don't worry - you have stripped back to bare 'new' wood. It will mellow and darken with time. I wouldn't have used a tint, personally, but it will soon look better.

WendyWeber · 03/09/2007 12:03

I was just about to link to that page, ledodgy

The medium oak looks a good one to try, otter.

NotAnOtter · 03/09/2007 12:03

it is not a tint - it just says 'natural'

OP posts:
NotAnOtter · 03/09/2007 12:04

but can i used those on floors

OP posts:
WendyWeber · 03/09/2007 12:04

She didn't use a tint though, 40+ - that's why she's so cheesed off! It was supposed to be "natural" (which looks a lovely colour on ledodgy's link - not yellow at all)

ledodgy · 03/09/2007 12:05

Can I just point out the colour on my link is called neutral not natural.

WendyWeber · 03/09/2007 12:06

Did you use the Diamond Hard? There's a natural oak in that

NotAnOtter · 03/09/2007 12:08

ahhh yes i see ledodgy
i should have maybe done that

this is what i used

OP posts:
NotAnOtter · 03/09/2007 12:10

anyone think i should contact ronseal?

OP posts:
NotAnOtter · 03/09/2007 12:11

or will i just work myself and dp into a completely futile frenzy when life is way too short and i have waaaay mor important things to waste my energy on .............

OP posts:
ledodgy · 03/09/2007 12:11

You could do though they will probably just say you should have tested it on a small area first. I'd try the darker colour.

NotAnOtter · 03/09/2007 12:12

the oak one ledodgy?

OP posts:
ledodgy · 03/09/2007 12:13

Yes that looks preferable to the antique orange one. Good Luck! let us know the results I want before and after pics!
