The decluttering on thing a day thread - part 11

StealthNinjaMum · 19/01/2020 15:12

We’re still here.

After 10 threads my house still isn't tidy!

So join me and a lovely group of mumsnetters who simply get rid of one thing a day and report back. Gradually we’re developing good habits, reorganising ourselves, often improving our mental health and having friendly chatter along the way.

So newbies are welcome, just check in with your news and join in the general chat about recycling, organisation and housework.

Previous thread here.

ALSO many of us have set a target to get rid of 2020 items this year and will report on that.

I've stalled, gang. I'm in a good place with DD's toys and clothes, no surplus there. Did the kitchen junk drawer last week, and took the resulting bag to the charity shop. I'm keen to keep going, but a lot of what remains is DH's, and I can't do that. What should I tackle next?

Vinorosso74 · 04/02/2020 15:18

Motherwol the freezer?
After posting yesterday I went through the rest of my drawers and put a few more things in the textile recycling which I got rid of this morning.
Put an item for sale on Gumtree.

SandAndSea · 04/02/2020 15:35

Motherwol - Electricals? Matching up and labeing cables and getting rid of the rest?

SandAndSea · 04/02/2020 15:36
  • labelling
MotherWol · 04/02/2020 15:41

SandandSea oh god, there are so many cables! DH is a gadget person and I have no idea what half of them are for. At least anything for an old iPod can go...

Have put laundry away and culled seven items of clothing. Next, the freezer!

Keiki · 04/02/2020 18:16

Tomorrow's plans may have been slightly stalled by a sick child. We shall see.

Bunkerlife · 04/02/2020 20:09

I'm broken, stillbirth in the family. I will be back but need to prioritise other things right now.

2 more items of clothing, a bin and some old journals soon to be put of the house. I did buy a dress though Blush Still, more out than in which is the main thing.

@Bunkerlife Flowers

I've stalled big time. Ordered 5 lever arch folders which have arrived and this weekend I will fill them with charity paperwork.

I gutted the clothing 'pile' weeks and weeks ago and haven't touched the keep stuff, so I am going to go through it again and see if I really actually need to keep any of it.

Weather to be awful this weekend, so I'll use that as a reason to stay home and do stuff.

MotherWol · 05/02/2020 12:45

Yesterday I had a handful of ins - sometimes the project I volunteer with gets donations that we can't accept (i.e. electricals as we can't PAT test), and I didn't want them going to landfill so took them home. Thankfully they were all snapped up on Freecycle straight away, so they're going straight out the door again!

StealthNinjaMum · 05/02/2020 13:31

Welcome islamann. Don’t worry if 2020 things is daunting, i’m not setting myself targets this year. You’ve made a great start.

Thanks for loyalty card app suggestions puffyhemagicdragartist and islamann I have an old phone but i’ll Look into them.

reastie I hope dd is better and Ds didn’t catch it.

clettercletterthatsbetter that’s a lovely update. Well done on the womb declutter.

Welcome dayslikethese and anyone else i’ve missed.

bunkerlife i’m so sorry. Sending you and your family lots of love.

I am still doing my bedroom. Target was end of Jan. going to make it end of Feb as I really want it organised and that takes time. I am also going to focus on Room of Doom where much of the bedroom stuff will go. I have got rid of tonnes of random stuff, organised my drawers, organised my jewellery and hair clips . I have also sold some toys that were in the Room of Doom.

I've finished going through my largest box of uni notes. I've binned quite a bit but just can't bin it all and somehow, strangely, it's still full. But, the lid does close now! There's room in the loft again after decluttering other big things from there, so it's going back up there for now. I'm going to start on another box soon.

SheepSocks · 05/02/2020 13:54

@StealthNinjaMum I am also tackling our bedroom, I'm not sure when it spiralled out of control there but I need to seize the control back. Also like you I have a room of doom - my spare room 🙈

SandAndSea · 05/02/2020 13:59

@Elloello - I'd say my wardrobe is pretty 'capsule'. It's evolved over time, partly through intention but also due to decluttering and not having much space. I just keep it simple so almost everything goes with almost everything else. I also buy multiples, when I find something I really like.
