Welcome to the first Flylady thread of the decade! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (loosely. In some cases, very loosely. Blush) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Over recent months we have agreed that big lists of daily links aren’t necessary - on a daily basis I will post (if I remember... it is maybe 18 months since I last hosted so please forgive any screw ups Blush) a link to the launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

Information on getting started here.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

Anyway, huge thank you to Stressy for running our very busy December thread! Thanks

And... HAPPY NEW YEAR FLEDGLINGS!!!

Happy birthday to your DS rachael, hope he enjoyed the cake!

I was quite pleased with myself getting everything done today. I did make a list the night before and plough through it, before the day got too hectic so I will do that again tonight.

I have been thinking about using baskets or similar in my fridge zoo, let me know how it goes.

KTCluck · 08/01/2020 20:48

Zoo that sounds like a very successful shopping trip! It’s certainly not sad being excited to get everything organised. I’m always like that when I’ve bought things for the house or maybe I’m just sad too

Lane sounds like you’ve got loads of organisational stuff done. Your toddler sounds so like mine, good vocabulary, very capable of making her feelings known and very feisty! I also stopped day time feeds first. I think I was just lucky that she went along with the broken boobs, I certainly wasn’t expecting it to be that easy as she used to feed what felt like all night long. Maybe leave it for a bit and try again in a few weeks. Hopefully the BF group will have some ideas. I’d forgotten about the hormones at the weaning stage Rachael. I was really lightheaded for a few weeks too.

Wing flaps to SC Too Foxes Bower That We3Kings Chic Lisette Willow Hazel and so sorry if I’ve forgotten anyone. I’m learning, but I wish it was easier to scroll back without losing your post!

I’ve had a really good day flying wise. After the productive morning we had an hour on the beach then an easy lunch of jacket potatoes and I caught up with a relative over the phone.

Ta Da:
Super shiny sink, cupboard doors all wiped, kitchen window sill wiped.
Vacuumed whole house (not thoroughly!)
Mopped bathroom floor
Ironing done, clean clothes all put away
Dining table cleaned
Tidied DD’s toys away repeatedly and managed to convince her to help a little
Monstrous eyebrows plucked
2 lasagnes made, some scoffed, some delivered to PILs and leftovers portioned up for work
A proper bedtime routine done for once - moisturiser, clothes for me and DD laid out etc.

DH has sorted the kitchen (properly!) and has done bedtime so it’s feet up and then heading to bed soon. Hoping to do some exercise again before work but we shall see...

KTCluck · 08/01/2020 20:53

Expletive my DD also went to nursery at 9 months having only ever been breast fed other than a rare bottle of expressed milk. I worried so much about how it would work. It’s amazing how they, and your supply, adapt isn’t it.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 08/01/2020 21:16

Thank you for lovely birthday wishes! I have had a lovely day "off" of only the most basic flying, playing with my bullet journal, coffee with DMum, about to start one of my new books.

Racheal DS3 (9) and DD (15) are educated from home via an online school. DS only has lessons in the morning and I am his LSA doing homework / consolidation in the afternoon. It is hard and I have no time of my own during the day. This would not be my choice, but for his junior school refusing to recognise his needs and off-rolling him. We are hunting for resolutions to the Secondary School Issue now (he's Y5). DD is Y10 and the school were clear they couldn't handle her SPD. Hopefully she'll go back to mainstream education for the 6th Form (currently Y10) but nothing is set in stone. This is hard and we would not be doing it if there were easier choices. Happy birthday too to your tiny DS!

Right. Big wingflaps all round. Having a Birthday Early Night. See you all tomorrow.

LaneBoy · 08/01/2020 21:32

Really appreciate all the thoughts and experiences!
Yep it was awful. My mental health is errrrm erratic at the best of times but I hit an awful point. It wasn’t until I was sobbing and scared in the middle of the night that I suddenly realised, oh hang on, hormone crash 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ luckily it then started improving. But with the meds I’m on now I basically get a crash every evening, things have been pretty bad at times while adjusting dose, and I don’t want to risk adding anything to that. TBH I’m also very aware this is my last baby 😭

Still feeling lame and tired and ugh. Need to prepare for tomorrow though, really looking forward to getting back to the children’s centre playgroup (had two weeks off) and having a catch up with our family support worker too. Have to leave before 9, so I want to get the buggy/clothes/snack etc ready, and also make sure DS’ work is printed from my iPad, so I can get up, shower and go.

Evening all. I've been out most of day (no Flying except basics) but just wanted to say how bloomin' great it is to hear you have done a little shopping for yourself for once Zoo yay! Smile

Happy 1st birthday to your baby Rachael hope you are feeling a bit better Bear Flowers

Foxes ooh I would love to go on alpaca walk, I love the mewing sound they make!

I know what you mean, I'm similar in that my house can be all very tidy, inc inside cupboards etc, or its all a bit messy - wish it were more of a medium standard all the time - and I dither about methods and routines too! I've come to the conclusion that it is simply important to do some chores 6 days a wk (in addition to basic routines ) doesn't really matter what as long as it's something and I like Flylady if only for the fact that it pushes me to do something other than she suggests sometimes ifyswim! [What is the phenomenon called when you do something to avoid doing something else? Grin]

Hope your ds is ok "Lane*

What does a fridge basket look like?

Strategicchoring · 08/01/2020 23:02

Oh and sorry to hear about bf hormone fluctuations and associated stresses etc Flowers Brew Cake.

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 08/01/2020 23:03

Haven't had a very productive evening. Came in sorted lunches for tomorrow. Cleaned up after myself. Baths and bed for DC. My 8 year old took himself off to bed and was snoring before 8! Going back to school after the Xmas break must have taken it out of him a bit.

Since they went up I've put my pj's on and done some more of my assignment.

Did manage to start my control journal though.

LaneBoy · 08/01/2020 23:12

ta da
✅wrote journal
✅reminded DD to get her PE kit ready for tomorrow
✅delegated reading to DH
✅finalised and printed off another worksheet
✅important chat about boys and appropriate behaviour with DD (preemptive, nothing bad happening but she now has a boyfriend apparently 🙄)
✅got my/Cagletini’s clothes ready for tomorrow along with a towel so I can grab it on the way to the shower
✅packed a little box of healthy snacks* for Cagletini (doubt she will have time for breakfast at home, she is SO hard to wake!)
✅got my meds ready for tomorrow in a secure bottle in the buggy so I can’t forget them
✅washed out DD’s new water bottle and filled for tomorrow

*and a biscuit in case I have to bribe her to leave playgroup Blush

LaneBoy · 08/01/2020 23:14

Oh also ta da
✅discussed shopping list with DH who was ordering it for tomorrow as I’m doing lots of batch cooking over the next few days hopefully
✅discussed necessary sleep diary for DS

Morning all
SC they're long, and come in different widths.made same stuff asfridge drawets so you can see what's in them and they're pretty sturdy.our extensive nut and deed selection spills all over the shelves so hoping it will help reduce meds as well as bring order!!

So windy here,it's been literally howling around the house.wish I hadn't promised D's we would go buy his beloved bananas today!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/01/2020 06:26

Grrr.phone.seed not deed.
Mess not meds

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 09/01/2020 07:42

Rachael happy 1st birthday to your babe from yesterday! 8 January is a good day for a birthday.

Lane, so sorry the hormones are messing things up. You are doing so well at recognising it and supporting all your DC. But thanks for the heads up that ADHD meds are controlled drugs - I wasn't at all phased when the pharmacist ID'd me picking up DS2's prescription yesterday. She kept apologising and I think she was expecting a fight over it.

Back on my head today. DS3 is sleeping badly and I think he might be eating too late - dinner is ostensibly 6.30 but DH sees that as time to start cooking. DS3 starts going to bed at 7.30 with lights out for 8.30, but is waking 2 or 3 times a night which is very unusual for him. I love us all eating together, but at 9 I think he still needs dinner at 5.30, like his siblings had. Will think on it as it's going to complicate things mightily.

Like the sound of your fridge trays, zoo.

Right. No Ta Das apart from "got out of bed, drank coffee" (it's a start, right?).

To Do's

  • morning routine
  • walk DS to school
  • counselling appointment for me at 10, an hour away
  • Lidl on the way home
  • DH to get DS1 to hygienist for 11
  • DS1 - send on final driving lesson and off for test at 12.30. Eek. 🤞
  • take DD to Greek lesson (if it's on) at 4
  • homework with DS3
  • make chicken pie for dinner
  • send some work emails and do some actual work in a quiet moment (ha ha).
  • actual get going on the EHCP process for DS3.
LaneBoy · 09/01/2020 07:49

Morning

Toddler was awake even later (at least when she finally fell asleep she stayed asleep though so that’s something! Of course I still woke up out of habit Hmm)

I’ve had my meds (and put the pot with afternoon dose back in the buggy so I can’t forget - AND set the alarm on my phone) now just need to shower and get dressed and get Cagletini up and ready. Oh and breakfast.

Sleepy. 😭 I did that annoying “wake up just before the alarm” thing 😡

No point to this rambling post sorry 🙈

LaneBoy · 09/01/2020 08:01

FFS. So last night I was organised and made Cagletini’s snack box...guess who put it in the buggy overnight instead of the fridge. 🤦‍♀️😂🙈 sweaty cheese and soggy cucumber. Will redo while my eggs are boiling!

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 09/01/2020 08:20

Oh no lane. At least you tried.

Haven't had a very productive morning at all. DS4 took ages to have his milk this morning so I was late getting out of bed.

I find I'm more tired if I don't jump up as soon as my alarm goes off.

My kettle boiling job this morning was standing flicking through a magazine. I did put it in the recycling when I'd done though.

Put a wash on.

Got dressed. Didn't bother straightening my hair today because it's lashing down.

ExpletiveDelighted · 09/01/2020 08:39

Well, yet another half hour wasted in a fruitless search for something for one of the DCs. The key that I spent an hour looking for on Tues eve turned up in DD's hoody pocket. I could weep. None of the rest of the family seem to be able to make the connection between the clutter everywhere and things getting lost. They all just see bare surfaces as somewhere to dump stuff. I dump too but only temporarily and then put stuff away later. They dump and leave stuff indefinitely.

LaneBoy · 09/01/2020 09:10

Sooo frustrating expletive and tbh story of my life 😡

Feel your pain with the randomly longer feeds we3

On that note I think I’m dropping the morning feed first - we will now be in a rush five out of seven mornings anyway.

On way to playgroup, bit later than planned and I’m having to walk a bit slower but we have plenty of time (I tend to leave crazy early for things)

OP posts:
Strategicchoring · 09/01/2020 09:25

They all just see bare surfaces as somewhere to dump stuff.

I hear you loud and clear Expletive exactly^ the same situation here!

ExpletiveDelighted · 09/01/2020 09:50

I found it in the end. It was a school book (paperback, for Eng. lit). DD has a large magazine rack for all her school books, it had gone down the back between the rack and the wall. However she had been insistent that she had left it on the bottom stair to take up and read last night, so we were all looking upstairs, in the kitchen etc. Anyway, I did do a lot of tidying while I searched, so the time wasn't entirely wasted.

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/01/2020 10:08

surface dumpers yep.same here!!complete sympathies ED my lot cant find shoes in a shoe box
Lane mine naturally clung to bedtime feed longest, mornings had too many other interesting things to do
Willow getting up is HUGE some days, and coffee comes from plants so that's one of your 5a day surelyWink

Bit stressful start,dd2 had bad night and wasn't in good place this morning.offered walk her school as in panic but left instating be ok.returned 3mins later in tears as I was just head out door to shops with D's.walked her to school shaking and crying/gasping for breath.was awful.i try distract her.was getting worse by time near there so lil zoo went in with friend they walk with and I took dd2 to office.they rang for head of learning

Strategicchoring · 09/01/2020 10:15

Ooh thanks for pics Zoo (sorry, I missed your earlier post) - they haven't made it over here yet I don't think - I can see how they use vertical fridge space and stop things getting lost at the back!

I'm finding motivation hard to come by today. Need the pointy stick.
