No delayed exit for clutter - March Flylady Thread 2019 for fledglings!

ChicCroissant · 28/02/2019 09:40

What would a combo of exit and clutter be, clexit? Exclutter? Perhaps we should just stick with declutter ....

Welcome to the March Flylady thread, we’d love to have you with us as we chat and work our way through our houses in March. Flylady uses the zone method of cleaning so we’ll be focusing on a different area of the house each week – we will post daily links to the Launch Pad on the Flylady website which gives all the details of the current Zone, daily missions and babysteps.

Newbies are always welcome so feel free to join in at any time. Flylady does recommend decluttering your house first, so if you are not ready for the cleaning routines yet it’s fine to focus on the decluttering bit – add the babysteps in if you wish.

💐🍨have some ice cream with it Foxes. A sad day for you.

Finding moments of life hard just now.
Work has been very stressful this morning. Then listened to the respect and expression that my Yr 6’s put into reading from the Bible today and know I am doing something right. They are the highlight of my week, every week. Last week we made pancakes. Now we are planning a fundraising effort for a charity such as Wateraid. We are doing this as part of Lent.

Bowerbird5 · 12/03/2019 21:20

Off to watch Derry Girls.

TooStressyTooMessy · 12/03/2019 21:33

foxes Flowers. Well done on getting through today. So sad that he was so close to retirement. I think that is lovely that your dad is planning to carry on the work on the car. Totally agree, this is such a lovely thread.

Sorry things are difficult for you too Bower. I keep meaning to watch Derry Girls as it looks great!

I am definitely a cricket Chic. I do find it interesting and helpful to look at the organising styles.

Early start tomorrow so I have got my work bag ready, have a couple more bits to do then am planning to sit.

HillsBesideTheSea · 12/03/2019 21:41

foxes

cag ah if it is circadin prolonged release then that IS the dose and it is the same dose that full sized adults have. Don't worry what other kids are on dose wise, most will be on the 1 hit dose. It appears that putting on the slow release is actually harder for parents to get for their kids. But sometimes it is easiest to just stick with the simple rule "thy shall not compare kids, they are all different" That said we have to be strict with sleep hygiene here too.

Pushmepullyou · 12/03/2019 23:13

I’m sorry foxes, what a hard/sad day Flowers

Zero flying done today. I did sort of 27 fling the fridge contents. But you’d probably have to count individual tomatoes to get to the full 27!

Tomorrow I will empty the bathroom bin and throw away the orbeez foot spa that has been lurking unused in the corner for years a while

ChicCroissant · 12/03/2019 23:21

Launch Pad link for Wednesday

Going to bed earlier than normal tonight, we all seem to be shattered! Sleep well and I'll see you tomorrow fledglings, let's bloom where we are planted tomorrow.

Evening all,

Flowers Foxes, so sad. It's nice that the car will still be restored, hopefully that will bring some comfort.

Cag - our kitchen table is a nightmare hotspot, always covered in magazines and school stuff.

SC - hooe you feel better tomorrow.

Not much Flying here, keeping on top of laundry and basic cleaning but not much else. Apart from cleaning up cat piss Angry. We changed litter a couple of weeks ago and at least one of rhem has been showing disappeoval. Changed back to the old sort today, hoping for no more nasty niffs. We're in the middle of a busy spell, DS has exams next week and DD has her school play, with lots of rehearsals. We've started going ro college open evenings too as 6th form decisions will need to be made for DS in the next year. Gulp.

Bowerbird5 · 13/03/2019 02:06

Wow this storm is really scary. Woke to dreadful thunder then bedroom lit up by lightening. Very close together. Glad I am tucked up in a cosy bed and I don’t have to venture out tomorrow if I don’t want to.

Hope the children aren’t too scared.

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/03/2019 06:11

bower hope you are safe and managed some sleepiness howling again here(is on a hill,we have a street nearby called "windy ridge"!)
Another night cuddling lil zoo with sore throat issues her glands have been very painful in neck(as have mine) can't wait to see the back of winter bugs...

foxessocks · 13/03/2019 06:50

Thanks for the kind words everyone Flowers

Hope you all managed some more sleep. I'm sleeping badly at the moment I think it's because of my braces the discomfort and feeling of movement my teeth keep sort of clashing it's horrible!

Before the funeral yesterday I managed to do the bathroom bin mission and the five minutes hot spot mission plus daily routine and meal planning / online food shop but no decluttering, still pretty pleased with that and going to try and keep it up today. I'd like my anti procrastination to be getting the ball rolling on organising our will (my uncle didn't have one and it is causing a real headache so it's on my mind!) No idea how to do that though!

Pushmepullyou · 13/03/2019 07:15

Ugh. Tried to have an early (for me) night last night. Went to sleep at half 11ish. Was woken up at midnight by DH who had managed to tip 2.5 l of gloss paint down the stairs, all across the wood flooring up 2 doors and across the living room carpet. Was then up until 2 cleaning up. Woke up for the day at 6. I’m more upset about the lack of sleep than the carpet. So tired I could cry.

He is stressed/depressed at the moment and it is so hard. The lack of sleep is what kills me. I think I average 4 hrs a night because he’s up and down and making odd noises. It’s like having a newborn again.

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/03/2019 07:37

pushmeFlowersandCake
Can't he sleep somewhere else(sofa?spare room?) Sometimes do you can rest.lack sleep is torture.im not sure if on arse or elbow today.lil zoo ate breakfast soggy flake by flake so fair to say she's feeling rubbish.its a weird bug.neck/glands hurt.tired.head feels like weighs a tonne....
Her attendance is crap so feel like need to send her.not looking forward to the hour round trip school run...

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/03/2019 08:09

Well the tears when she stands up mean no school today.bad attendance or notSad
I'm very tired and could eat my body weight in chocolate, but trying avoid sweet stuff at least a week( on another thread for that)as it's not making me feel better
Today's plan is clean up and keep busy
DS has his other meeting at church doing the rest of stations of cross and I happen to know lady doing it with us like cheese scones so we are going to make some as a thank you for her time.church is literally 2minutes away and as she's 11 now lil zoo happy to stay here and sleep for the time we are away sorting that(less than an hour)
Hope everyone's ok

holly1501 · 13/03/2019 08:11

Morning all, I didn't make it on here last night. Slacking already I know. I just collapsed on the sofa about 7.30 and that was it. I did do a bit before I couched though. I did

Afternoon school run
Made tea
Washed dishes
Wiped over kitchen tops
Bathed ds
Cleaned the toilet upstairs
General tidy up in living room

We have a beautiful morning here today though. We have some climate change protesters blocking a busy road behind us. I can see the massive traffic jam behind us and them standing with their placards. There's a bit of beeping going on from irate drivers.

This morning I have

Showered
Made a cuppa coffee
Put bins out for collection
Fed ds
Dressed ds

I want to do wash the dishes, wipe over the kitchen tops and clean the downstairs toilet before I head out the door.

pushme Shock at the spilled gloss. Did he manage to clear it up?

Sanguineclamp · 13/03/2019 08:38

Good morning everyone!

Brew Brew Brew for everyone who had a tough night.

Oh no Pushme that's the last thing you both need. Really sorry about your dh and the sleep deprivation which sounds very hard. Flowers

Foxes top marks for Flying yesterday on such a difficult day. You can write your own will if straightforward but best to seek advice from specialist probate solicitor
if not straightforward.

Thanks Meet feeling better but still suffering the odd stomach cramp. Good luck with 6th form college decision for your ds. (Gosh, that went quickly didn't it?Shock) And hope your dd's play goes well and she enjoys it!

We are immersed in dd's "options" /subject choices for the sixth form equivalent (or "rhéto" short for "rhétorique") atm. Having to choose between Spanish and Mandarin for 4th lang option (which is better? I genuinely have no idea!) and other conundrums. Choice basically determined by subjects you chose at 13yrs, very narrow selection, and God help you if you got it wrong then because there's no turning back! And poor DD worried she may have got it wrong Confused

Bower hope you survived the night! And your year 6s sound lovely!
May I ask your advice pls? (And anyone else?) Too late now really, but out of interest, to what degree should a parent "influence" school option choices do you think? DD went for hard sciences and higher maths because she adores chemistry. She is now struggling with the maths/physics. I thought she's creative and loves langs (tried to get her to continue with Latin and Greek but she hated them at the time) and had concerns. But after explaining potential consequences and giving advice to the best of my ability, buttoned my lip. Now I feel horribly guilty that I didn't push more (because over here, it's sciences OR humanities, no mixing). But my reasoning was "she's her own person, sciences always useful, she's not me, let her be" etc etc.

Sorry about your dh's interview Cag. I hope a similar opportunity comes up soon.

Glad your eldest feeling better Icarriedaturnip

And hope you and Lil'zoo will feel better soon too Zoo

Waves to Hills I've Holly Chic Toostressy Honu and anyone else I've missed!

Fortnightly ironing lady is here and because of bug/recuperation, I don't have loads for her to iron. Utterly useless of me. Have asked her to give laundry room a clean though.

To do: continue with boudoir, admin, food prep, laundry.

Lisette1940 · 13/03/2019 08:47

switched back to zone cleaning with Flylady so doing bathroom and Ds's room this week.

SC I think you can only point out the pitfalls and pluses re subject choice. I was in a system where you could mix humanities and sciences at secondary. Wound up doing a year of a science degree only to change to history. It was the maths/physics which was my downfall as I just wasn't naturally good at it but loved chemistry and biology.

Sanguineclamp · 13/03/2019 08:55

Xposts

Holly you sound really on top of things! I would have sat on couch too having done all of that lot!! Star Star

Sorry Lil'Zoo off school Zoo. It's a hard time of year. Hope D's enjoys his church visit though! DD had headache/bad throat this morning (no temp) so half expecting call to come and collect. Dh off for endoscopy (part of ongoing tests to find cause for his health issues) and I'm still below par so going to rename this house ward 10!

So can't exactly promise to bloom where I'm planted today Chic. Grin Would "not wither entirely" suffice? Wink

Lisette1940 · 13/03/2019 08:55

There must be a lot of kids who choose one strand and then think again. Confused I mean it's teenagers you're dealing with.

Sanguineclamp · 13/03/2019 09:05

Waves to Lisette . Thanks! That's exactly like DD (but no poss of changing back here)! We did attend a talk at the school about options for sixth form, but really the advice is needed much earlier when DC are 12/13 yrs.

Meant to say earlier -agree with everyone about battle to keep horizontal surfaces clear - it's a nightmare here too! I try and app!y a "zero tolerance" strategy to our dining table but DD is constantly covering it in school books which I don't have the heart to tell her to remove, so we end up moving them off and moving them back at mealtimes. So I bought in the (plastic) outdoor table from terrace and covered it in a tablecloth to eat on, but then that got covered in books and dh's clobber too, so it's gone back outside again now! Confused

Cagliostro · 13/03/2019 09:06

It’s harsh to make kids choose so young :( I was able to do a mix at A level (maths law and psychology plus AS in human bio and further maths) and I loved having the wide range. I think I was lucky though that in both school and college we weren’t restricted at all, as schools here now seem to have a whole lot of rules about combinations and stuff, I don’t know if that’s mainly down to scheduling etc though.

Ugh I am all blocked up and scratchy throaty. Not got up yet. I do have some things to anti procrastinate over. But they are scaring me!

Sanguineclamp · 13/03/2019 09:10

Exactly Lisette progress in, and enthusiasm for, a subject often changes at that age! (Often, I find anyway, depending on the abilities and enthusiasm of the subject teacher.) And also because...as you say..they are teens fhs! They don't quite know who they are yet and need to be able to dabble (productively!) and sample I think.

ChicCroissant · 13/03/2019 09:11

Quick hello before I dash out, catch you all at lunchtime!

OP posts:
Stilllivinginazoo · 13/03/2019 09:19

SC I think you did the right thing offering advice but letting her choose.can you imagine had you been forceful and she hates the options and let you know it constantly .ultimately it's not fair expecting teens to know what want to do with rest of their lives but I've let dd2 decide what she's happy to plod forwards with(at this time she's no idea what wants to do when grows up,but I'm still not sure what I want to do when /if I ever grow up either no help whatsoever )you see and hear so many people retraining at various points in life.gone are the days of set path til retirement.goid example us dd2 biology teacher.she was a scuba diver instructor in her previous role!!
Hope dh tests go ok
ARF at not "either entirely" I'm constantly just this side of that at mo,so class it as a win if her roots stay damp and you are limp but aliveGrin

Cag hope today gets better
Holly fingers X it's a peaceful protest

DS scones are wafting delicious cheesy smell around house.wish we had made a double batch so we could eat some too!!

Sanguineclamp · 13/03/2019 09:19

Feel the fear Cag Grin ( says I sitting here procrastinating on Mnsnet! Blush )
Only kidding - hope tasks ahead not too scary. Yes I'm sure restricted school budgets must have an impact. Strange subject combinations/restrictions here too! Good luck with everything!

Sanguineclamp · 13/03/2019 09:40

That's a good point, thanks Zoo! Teens hate you enough anyway without you giving them more reasons to do so Grin. Also good point about careers changing mid-way! (I really envy people who have a strong career vision from a young age!)
