I am a hoarder. My house was disgusting and I stopped letting visitors in.
It was so hard to start and it took days to make the first step.. I am so glad I did!! I am sitting here in 1 tidy clutter free room and it feels amazing.
I would like to start an inspirational thread for others facing the same mountain.

Keep going OP and Mike. Just take another step each day, even if it's a small one.

EarringsandLipstick · 06/03/2019 23:27

I think you're amazing to achieve this much OP and it's lovely how you describe your daughter's reaction. Keep going!

LocksMyth · 07/03/2019 06:43

This week has been a bad one. It's so easy for it to all slide backwards. Sometimes it feels just overwhelming, but reading and re reading these comments on here have spurred me on to keep trying.
Thankyou.

The difference it makes is amazing but I have so much stuff.

Disfordarkchocolate · 07/03/2019 12:36

It's wonderful to hear of people finding new inner strength, no one expects this to be easy but I'm sure we're all willing you on one step at a time.

AdoraBell · 07/03/2019 13:05

Well done Locks 👍

AuntVanya · 07/03/2019 15:36

keep going! Re-focus on your original motivation. Think back to how you felt when you saw that first clean room. Think back to your own pleasure - and your daughter's. Remember how lovely it is to spend time in clean, tidy surroundings. How easy it is to find the things you really need and see the things you really like.
Maybe refresh your strategy- decide to put one thing from each room (that still needs clearing) into a bin bag every day and take it to the charity shop ASAP? That way it doesn't seem like huge tasks still to tackle. Just a smaller job but every day.
You're doing so well!

MikeUniformMike · 10/03/2019 18:05

I'm keeping going. There is so much junk but I have done a bit more today.
I didn't realise just how much I'd let things slip.

LocksMyth · 10/03/2019 19:09

Well done mike. I know exactly how you feel. I managed a bit more and now have a tidyish downstairs to the house. Aside from two cupboards, half my house is now clutter free and we can now eat at the table and see the floor. It was a shameful mess and it has been an enormous struggle to get this far.
Upstairs is next.. I am so happy you're progressing too.

Thanks to everyone else too for taking the time to spur me on. It's really helped.

Would thinking about it as a lent goal help? Take a something to the charity shop every day through Lent... Passing it on to someone else and helping a charity as well as you?

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/03/2019 19:16

Well done!

user1498572889 · 10/03/2019 19:19

Well done. Little by little it will get easier. Learn not to add to what’s already there and keep the bits you have cleaned tidy. It will get easier
💐

SandAndSea · 10/03/2019 19:39

Lovely news! Well done!

Redred2429 · 19/03/2019 12:35

MikeUniformMike · 19/03/2019 18:33

I've lapsed!

LocksMyth · 19/03/2019 22:10

Me too. I feel sad 😔

Locksmith don't be hard on yourself!
Two steps forward and one step back is still progress.

Doghorsechicken · 19/03/2019 22:23

Don’t let it get you down OP, you’ve done fantastic so far and achieved so much!! Just remember how amazing it feels to have a clutter free space. Just take it one cupboard at a time, you’re doing fab!

Redred2429 · 20/03/2019 10:44

Dont feel bad for a slip up the important part is you realise you have slipped up that is a good sign that you still have the drive to do it x

Peridot1 · 20/03/2019 10:55

You have done brilliantly. Don’t focus on lapsing. Focus on what you have done and the feelings after.

I’m on a getting rid of one thing a day thread which is really helpful - come and join us www.mumsnet.com/Talk/housekeeping/3525812-Part-7-of-the-decluttering-challenge-can-you-get-rid-of-one-item-a-day - it’s helping me get out of the all or nothing mindset which can make things seem unachievable.

MikeUniformMike · 20/03/2019 18:12

I did a bit in the garden today. It looks so much better. A garden tidy-up usually starts a bit of indoor tidying. Here's hoping.

MikeUniformMike · 20/03/2019 18:12

Thanks for the moral support btw. Hope you are ok Locks.

Betsy86 · 23/03/2019 07:18

Hows it going everyone? I have done 2 tip runs this week and finally got new bed. Took the old one and packaging syraight to tip and some annoying bits out of cupboards etc to recycle so feels abit better.
Have a nice empty bin/recycling bins now and a week until bin day so aiming to try make some more progress.x

AdoraBell · 26/03/2019 22:28

Sorted some kitchen bits today. Put dried beans into storage jars and tidied away the last of the shopping that arrived yesterday. All the perishables were put away properly right after the delivery but tins of beans can sit on the side, can’t they? So they frequently do 🤦‍♀️
