and sort into whites (ish) and other. all go in at 40c 1200rpm spin. and if i just have one load and want to get it done and out of the way it all just goes in together.

foxinsocks · 27/06/2007 13:04

lol at your spin speeds. I did not even know you could get different spin speeds.

I annoint you the washing Anthea of mumsnet.

foxinsocks · 27/06/2007 13:05

If you tumble dry, you don't need to iron I find (other than dh's work shirts but I farm those out).

fishie · 27/06/2007 13:05

oh i have nothign like yours cod, just one fairly clean 2yo and a dp who has to have his jeans forcibly removed to teh wash twice a week. but i wear two whole outfits a day so am making up nicely.

no tumble dreir here either, if you hang it up nicely it doesn't wrinkle. i only iron skirts.

I do at least 3 loads a day but also find that I have a few days 'off' as a result.

I've two boys and a 7 yr old girl who is the fussiest multiple clothes wearer going. (No shit - see below - she gets it from her mother). We had a drama this morning over the size of checks on her dress and the purple pants that hadn't been washed ready for re-wearing.

I don't take this ridiculousness, I tell you, but it does make me mad.

Anyway, in my case I put it down to my keenness for separating loads by colour rather than simply darks and lights. We do pinks and reds, beige and mid browns, blacks and school trews grey, whites only, whites with colour and then there's delicates and obscures. There are probably other combos I've forgotten, like bath mat white wash which isn't a hot wash because of rubber on back, etc. and so on and so forth.

Sometimes I have to re-wash because stuff sits in the ironing pile so long it needs a wash before it could possibly be wearable.

And we too wear clothes more than once. All except pants and socks. We never do that ever.

I've just bought white long johns, vests, socks, knickers and boxers in bulk so that maybe I can get over my obsession with separation. Daz colour lock or whatever it is just doesn't cut it.

hey cod you should come and work for me- how does about 9 loads of nappies a day sound? I'm looking for a member of staff to spend the day doing washing!

We run a nappy laundry and supply the local hospital as well as private customers!

Fimbo · 27/06/2007 13:15

I do about 3 loads a day too. But can be more/less depending on the weather. If its a nice day, I just go hell for leather to get it all out and dried. Even if I only have a half load.

I do, whites, darks, coloureds and delicates.

Piffle · 27/06/2007 13:16

Cod like me atm, bloody groundhog day
always washing to put on, washing to take out, washing to put in drier, washing to hang inside/outside - washing to bring in from line, washing to bring on from drier
Never ending pile of washing to fold and bejesus
the ironing pile
Thank god that basket has a lid

I seem to remember you had a trademarked cod.. tm way of doing the laundry and told us all how to do it on a previous thread

bobsmum · 27/06/2007 13:28

I have discovered those weird sheets which catch the colour runs and suddenly I can wash whites with other stuff (at 40). |Grand

tassis · 27/06/2007 13:28

i think perhaps it's the sorting that's the issue

bung it all in at 40 long spin and it'll be fine (well I do nappies and towels at 60 but that's mainly because i have a super quick 60 cycle)

only separate light and dark (spray the stained stuff with vanish)

I do about a load a day and that includes linen, towels and nappies...have big drum...and a slobby attitude...

becklespeckle · 27/06/2007 13:32

Am always washing and ironing. Can spend 3 hours ironing and still there is another huge pile waiting for me the next day.
I do 2-3 loads a day but if I don't do any washing one day then it seems to multiply and the next day I will have 6-7 loads.
I am sure the washing in my house has a mind of its own.

KTeePee · 27/06/2007 16:18

I only do one load a day and don't worry if the wash basket is not empty (it rarely is...). Generally do a dark wash most days, a white load once a week (have enough polo shirts to last) and a load of towels once a week. If the weather is good I would do an extra load though - especially bedding.

Yes, you are a fraek, just for changing the speed of you spin. I kill DS is he so much as touches our spin dial

ProjectIcarus · 27/06/2007 18:44

i also freak.

nirvana would be empty washing basket. empty washing machine, tumble dryer, whirly. All washing put away and no ironing lurking.

Idealy before lunch so a while before tea towels bibs towels and that days clothes hit the basket.
