Fabric softener to give you a lovely clean smell

I recently bought one of the luxury, extra perfumed fabric softener. It's revolting and giving me a headache. What I dislike is that it's too sweet and perfumey. I do like a strong scent. Which type can I buy to just give a fresh, clean scent?

I'm afraid the scents are very toxic chemicals and the headache is a sign you are particularly sensitive. How about spraying your dry, clean laundry with an essential oil spray.

this one here makes my clothes smell clean and fresh but not overpowering at all x

Waitrose do a camomile and cotton one that's lovely. Very gently scented. I can't abide strong smelling laundry products. We use this with Persil non bio and it's really nice.

Fairy

Comfort sunny days! Or blue sky's

CrispbuttyNo1 · 27/11/2018 18:23

I put a bit of zoflora linen fresh in with my wash and it cones out smelling lovely

thenightsky · 27/11/2018 18:25

Lenor deep sea minerals is my favourite. Not too strong.

WhoTookTheCookie · 27/11/2018 18:29

Fairy non-bio all the way.

If I'm using the tumble dryer I'll also use blue skies dryer sheets.
Adds a tiny bit of scent but nothing overpowering.
Can't stand harsh, artificial smells.

Fairy fabric softener would be your best bet, or my absolutely favourite at the min is the Comfort Tuberose and Vanilla Flower. It's lush and only £2 as there's an offer on in Wilko and other supermarkets.

I use Spring Awakening. My DD’s nursery teacher asked me the other day what I used to wash her clothes.

Lidl's own brand yellow fabric conditioner. Doussy IIRK. Lovely fresh smell that lasts really well.

My fave at the moment is the comfort apple and pine. So clean and fresh smelling! I had a job finding it though, I think it's a bit of an Instagram trend at the moment.

Am not !

I read a post on MN a while ago from someone who knew how fabric softeners were made, might have been on an AMA, anyway! They said fabric softeners have to have some fragrance because the ingredients smell terrible without it.

If you are sensitive to fragrance you could try white vinegar instead.

I use Downy April Fresh which is an American fabric softener. It's the most amazing smell in the world. And worth every penny nearly £13

If I use Waitrose Colour Powder and Oasis 'Passion for Paradise' conditioner , DD is always delighted and asks "Mum what did you wash my clothes in, they smell lovely"

I am a product whore though and use different things for different washing

Malaco · 30/11/2018 16:04

Is Oasis from Waitrose too? I've not heard of it

Malaco · 30/11/2018 16:07

I bought Persil Powergems when they were on special offer. A complete gimmick, but they smell nice. Normally use powder. Surf is my favourite.

Crisp how much do you use? And do you put it in the f softener draw? And is it ok to use it every wash? I luffs Zoflora Smile

CrispbuttyNo1 · 30/11/2018 16:45

I put a couple of capfuls in with the detergent in every wash.
