the last time we moved house we got:

  • 4 old dirty horse feeding boxes
  • tin of freshly spilt emulsion paint (5ltr tin) on garage floor
  • 12 bags of rubbish, some must have had dog poo (very stinky)
  • 4ft stuffed teddy bear in the loft full of mites and cobwebs

some other bits too, but nothing of value!

Curtains
Full length mirror in the bathroom
some terracotta planters
But best of all, a very clean house with all the carpets freshly shampooed

LIZS · 11/06/2007 21:05

oh and we haven't opened the freezer - it could contain a body for all we know ..... plus there were 2 lawnmowers, strimmer, various garden tools, hosepipe, garend table and chairs, crate of miscellaneous I'm not sure what [eek]

Chelseamum · 11/06/2007 21:07

in my case, they took all the toilet seats and carpets!

Hillarious!

PrettyCandles · 11/06/2007 21:13

Some rather nice things:
Garden furniture, tool store, glazed pots, a Brio wheelbarrow (which our children loved, but how come our sellers had it?)

Some rather not-so-nice things:
Kitchen knife that had been sharpened so many times it was virtually a stilletto - in one of the bedrooms.
Used condoms and piles of cigarette buts in the gutter outside another bedroom window.
A saucy photo of the Mrs at the back of a wardrobe in another bedroom.
A flea infestation.

cece · 11/06/2007 21:16

The best thing was a floor polisher machine (one of those circular ones you see in institutions) and a big bottle of polish for the parquet flooring. However not used it yet as even just washing it leaves it lethally slippery.

madmarchhare · 11/06/2007 21:17

A massive box of toggles (later found out that last owner had worked at a paddington bear factory)

and a wedding album. It didnt belong to prev owners and she said she had never seen it before.

4 kids bedrooms - painted - 3 with the most hideous girly combinations of pink orange and purple, 1 like 'apocalypse now' (helicopters, guns, camo). a decade of dirt, knackered tumble dryer, dishwasher and washing machine. Broken french doors... I could go on but it still depresses me

talcy0 · 11/06/2007 21:25

Damp rot

and woodworm.

And a ceramic dragonfly...
which i dropped.

Meid · 11/06/2007 21:27

A wedding album!

floo · 11/06/2007 21:27

In this house we were left two fire extingushers, and an old mans type chair that stank of pee!
In my old house we were left
A sofa bed
Curtains for every room
Carpets for every room
1 Double bed
1 single bed
1 Giant american sized fridge freezer
1 Washing machine
1 Cooker
2 Sets of wardrobes.
A Canoe
A Lawn mower
A Hoover
The only thing we needed to buy was a TV, sofa and our bed. They were emigrating, and my parents best friends.

FannyBeaumont · 11/06/2007 21:37

An ovulation predictor kit behind the bath.
A completely frosted up freezer which finally divulged, amongst other things, a five-year-old packet of pork belly and an entire bag of peas, spilt everywhere.
A badly blocked pipe which flooded our kitchen the very first time I used the washing machine - had presumably been like that for a while, so don't know how the previous owners had done any laundry (although judging by the general grimey state of the place that probably didn't bother them too much)...

Wotz · 11/06/2007 21:38

we moved once and there was an old black and white film reel in shed, wished I'd kept it now!

meid - snap

cece · 11/06/2007 21:50

Oh and a plastic pigeon that hung from an archway in the garden. It just caught the corner of your eye as you walked through. Freaked me out everytime, so I binned it after a week.

mm22bys · 12/06/2007 07:18

We found a couple of what we think were shells in our back garden (maybe from WW2?), and in the shed some tomato seeds from 1977!

Eddas · 13/06/2007 07:46

Ok, this could be a long list

An unwanted greenhouse
A garden shed full of it's contents(including lots of tools, lawn mower, strimmer etc etc) list would go on forever
A loft full of stuff(including a knitting machine, wallpaper stripper and lots of tat)
3 huge wardrobes
Various lovely plastic plants
2 boats
Some lovely plastic cheese stuck to a kitchen cupboard
A very very dirty over(EAH thanks for cleaning it
A boys scooter
Various toys
A mirror
Stuff in the bathroom cabinet

That'a all I can remember now, there was more,LOL

I think it took as a day or more to clear THEIR rubbish before we could unpack

colditz · 13/06/2007 07:54

A dead dog under 7 black binbags

colditz · 13/06/2007 07:56

but apart from that, nothing, no carpets, no curtains, no curtain rails even.

Bouquetsofdynomite · 13/06/2007 10:47

Flea infestation, boiler ready to quit, blocked drainpipes and overflowing gutters, funny smells, about 100 old phone sockets.
Too scared to go in loft, it's been a year and we still don't have a ladder anyway.

New build so not much really. Half a loo roll, I think! Although I was rather annoyed because we part exchanged and had to pay a £500 keybond in case we didn't leave our house clean. So (and I was pg at the time) I ensured the house was spotless. Got to the new house and there was plaster dust and ordinary dust etc everywhere. Cup rings on the sink etc.

Hula I have found various things when digging in the garden though - I think it was basically just turfed over the rubble. I have found coal, a horse shoe, screws, wooden planks, pottery, wires, glass bottles, cans etc.

Nbg · 13/06/2007 11:01

When we went into the loft we found an antique childs wooden chair (currently having it re-woven), a pine bed frame and a mamas and papas cot.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 13/06/2007 11:11

A carpet which smelt of cat piss (because it had been repeatedly pissed-upon by a cat)
A kitchen carpet (yes, carpet in the kitchen) that smelt of dog piss (are we noticing a link yet?)
A crusty, fusty old bed in the front bedroom that was pushed up against the radiator. When moved it we noticed that it was because the girl who had lived there had puked down the side of the bed, onto the radiator and not cleaned it up.
Trust me, I am not making this up.

As for decor, well.........

Hassled · 13/06/2007 11:16

Lots of magnolia woodchip, blocked drains and a staggering number of TV aerial sockets that weren't connected in any way to the TV aerial. Oh, and she told me the neighbour was a "sweet old dear" when in fact she's an evil old witch who she had fallen out with badly and now plagues us.
