The Organised Mum Method

IcanDorisIwillDoris · 02/09/2018 15:35

Does anyone fancy joining me in following the organised mum method?

Back to work tomorrow after the summer off (work term time only) and need to get on top of a house work routine after struggling this last year or so to stay on top of things.

I suffer with anxiety and can easily get lost in my mood without structure and I like what I saw on the website. Will probably tweek the method as I go but it's a good structured plan to kick things off.

I work odd hours around the kids being at school but have a clear hour each day to dedicate to this. Plus I am sick of losing my weekends to playing catch up when I could be doing nicer things with the kids!!

Four of us in a 4 bed semi which is clean, just full of stuff that comes with having kids. It can get pretty messy!

Have done the odd bit of decluttering over the summer which has made a bit of a difference!

Looking forward to having a house that doesn't embarrass me on the odd occasion a guest arrives unannounced Blush

littlechocola Amazing! Wedding days are the best Grin

I have had such a rubbish night with the baby and DH is working from home today so think I'm going to leave the living room, I only deep cleaned it on Friday anyway. May do the bathroom while the baby naps or may go back to bed. I didn't drink coffee before but I'd drink a bucket of it now! Brew

Bin85 · 24/09/2018 10:38

Somehow it helps knowing others are doing the same thing.
Finally moved 2 garden chair cushions that have burst and were leaking foam bits everywhere, cleared up all the bits of foam and off to tip shortly . Phew!

SummersB · 24/09/2018 10:58

littlechocola congratulations Flowers glad you had a fab day!

ItWillAllBeOkayInTheEnd · 24/09/2018 11:32

Sitting room done. It actually looks ok. I even did a couple of bits in the hallway to fill the time. I'm going to try to do an hour in the garden most days as it's a complete mess at the moment.

doleritedinosaur · 24/09/2018 14:29

Deciding to hoover yesterday was definitely the right idea.
I’ve polished & tidied living room, just need to do windows & tidy shoes up.

The house is starting to smell nice all of the time now & I could actually
Make bread yesterday as all the other bits are done.

I just regret doing all the holiday washing in one go as I have 5 loads to put away.

OhFlipMama · 24/09/2018 14:34

I'm on the fb groups but haven't started yet, it generally takes me a while to check something out, think about it and consider everything, then begin!

I used to attempt the fly lady method but my goodness her inspirational nonsense drove me potty.

RaspberryBlonde · 24/09/2018 14:44

Glad you had a great day littlechocola.

DH is in the living room again so will have to catch up with that later in the week. It had a quick go over at the weekend so it's not too bad. Spent half an hour on the playroom instead so skirtings are dusted, floor main clean (had to go around a Lego creating) and have binned a massive pile of old paper.

Could really do with spending some time in the garden too, the wind last will brought down loads of apples which need picking up and there's loads of wedding needs doing. I think there's a Friday focus for gardens but not sure it's soon enough for mine!

Littlechocola · 24/09/2018 18:25

I need new window cleaner. Any suggestions?

Sparklyfee · 24/09/2018 18:27

Day 1 of boot camp done. Spent 4 hours on the living room but it feels clean now. Also did the majority of the biggest bedroom, just the windows to do tomorrow and the bedding to change in there. Hopefully tomorrow I will squeeze Wednesdays boot camp in too. If I do then I'll be doing the kitchen weds as I'm sure that will take 2 days Blush

Littlechocola · 24/09/2018 18:35

Well done Sparklyfee, it will be worth it. So much easier to stay on top of!

Sparklyfee · 24/09/2018 18:38

@Littlechocola thanks! Well done to you too. That's what I keep thinking, it will be worth it and after this week I can just keep on top of it!

I'm exhausted now in between school runs and everything else but I'm glad I've done Day 1!

Ollivander84 · 24/09/2018 19:04

Got some floor cleaner and all purpose cleaner off here if anyone is after more natural stuff. Pick your own scent too. It isn't the cheapest but it's diluted down (so like zoflora style!)
I got baby powder Grin

hodgeheg92 · 24/09/2018 19:19

@littlechocola Windowlene is all I've ever used. DH is ill - how when the house is cleaner than it has ever been?! Sad

RaspberryBlonde · 24/09/2018 20:33

littlechocola I use water with vinegar and lavender oil, already on then polish off with a microfibre cloth or newspaper. I didn't believe the newspaper would work but it does. We have a karcher window vac for outside which is good but there's a knack to avoiding steaks.

Chimichangaz · 24/09/2018 21:52

I really didn't feel like it tonight but i ploughed on anyway and am amazed how quickly I did the living room. Went on to balance my bank account and tidy some paperwork away. Am off to bed with a new(ish) book to read and hopefully a better nights sleep!

comeagainforbigfudge · 24/09/2018 22:28

So i have totally missed the fact that there was a wedding! Congrats littlechocola! Hope you had a great day Gin. I seem to have lost the ability to create paragraphs. So apologies for the massive one 🙈 i too have kinda had to push myself today. Did level 1 jobs, then washed loads of dishes from yesterday im so not my future friend before emptying fridge. Bin night tonight so swapped them round. But the dishes sucked the will out of me. I did bootcamp DD's bedroom though. Still got a lot to sort out but there's a pile of toys that she is too old for now that i will take to charity shop. Its clean and separated into ehat still needs sorted but took over 3 hrs. Early start 2mor so im off 2 bed. Hopefully paragraphs will return 2mor Grin

Littlechocola · 25/09/2018 09:18

@hodgeheg92 I just found windowlene in ds room (at least he’s tidying!). I do like the idea of something more natural, I love ollivander’s link. comeagainforbigfudge thank you! I can’t create paragraphs either. I’m having a lazy morning and then doing the bedroom bed.

BookishOwl · 25/09/2018 10:34

Morning everyone! I was away at the weekend but feel that I still on top of things thanks to the method. Washed all the bedding, waiting for it to dry then will make beds and do bedrooms at same time.

Level 1: wiped down main bathroom, bedding laundry done, dishwasher emptied, beds will obviously get made later so just hoovering to do (today I'll hoover the kitcgen/under the table)

MillicentCat · 25/09/2018 10:40

I've discovered this a few days ago and currently prepping the house to start! My own version of boot camp really. Need a huge declutter! I'm currently going through masses of paperwork and shredding it.

Hopefully I can get my DP on board to keep on top of things. He's terrible for hoarding his stuff and leaving random crap around the house. I just found a carrier bag hidden away with loads of old receipts and train tickets in which definitely didn't need keeping. Finding it therapeutic chucking stuff away Halo

ItWillAllBeOkayInTheEnd · 25/09/2018 10:54

I've just bootcamped DS' desk drawers. He's a hoarder. I didn't dare do the top because he'll notice - I'll need to do it gradually.

How does everyone else find the timings? There's no way I could stick to 15 minutes for L1 jobs. It takes me at least half an hour to do L1. I don't zoom round but even if I did, I wouldn't cut it down much. Also, I watched the video of Gem doing her bedrooms. She gets it done in 30 minutes, but the rooms are spotless already. There's no time for tidying up children's toys. I'm giving myself an hour and a half each day, which seems about right - and the house gets vacuumed/bathrooms cleaned properly at the weekends! btw my house is not immaculate! More like barely presentable. Sad

Littlechocola · 25/09/2018 13:42

MillicentCat I find de cluttering therapeutic too! Which is handy as we all tend to ‘collect’ junk.

ItWillAllBeOkayInTheEnd wrt timings, it doesn’t matter if you haven’t finished everything. Prioritise what you didn’t have time for next time.

I’ve managed level 1 jobs and bedroom (apart from bedding back on as it’s on the line) so made a start on the spare room. It seems to be over run with spiders (joys of old houses I suppose!) so I’m spending most of my time squealing rather than cleaning!

DH (first time I’ve written Dh Grin) sorted out the utility room yesterday and is going to do the gardens later.

Sparklyfee · 25/09/2018 16:21

Day 2 of boot camp done! The bedrooms are now looking good apart from one lot of bedding which is on the line. I'm swapping about and doing kitchen tomorrow as I think the hallways will be easier and I don't have much time on Thursday.

Helps to read of others doing it too!

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay · 25/09/2018 16:31

I'm new to this and love the idea of it but how on earth does it only take 15 mins to do level one jobs? I have 4 beds to make, a downstairs loo, an ensuite and a family bathroom. We have a lot of floor space so what does a quick floor clean actually mean? It would take me 15 mins to hoover/sweep the house let alone anything else.

BookishOwl · 25/09/2018 16:37

For level 1, I only hoover some bits each day, eg if the halls particularly bad I do that, next day I might to the kitchen/under the kitchen table. Just a quick whizz round somewhere.

Littlechocola · 25/09/2018 16:45

ItsLikeRainOnYourWeddingDay I just do the kitchen and front room floors daily as they are used the most and get most hairy from the dog.
All other floor space gets done as I go through the level 2 jobs throughout the week and bathroom floor gets done as and when needed as part of level 1 bathroom job.
Don’t do all of the bathrooms everyday. Sinks one day, baths the next, mirrors next etc.
Making beds for level 1 is simply turning back the quilt and plumping the pillows (very therapeutic).
