September fledgling roll call: Ready, Set, FLY....

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/09/2018 08:25

Yes this is the bonkers back to school thread. We welcome you to jump aboard for the ride. We are following the Fly lady system for taming the chaos (can't have anyone over syndrome). We are at various levels and there is NO obligation to follow it to the letter (we've installed a bar in the naughty corner for hanging out and relaxing when needed)

4 levels for flying:
Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks
Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

So ground rules, yes ground rules it is September:

  1. Newbies - we are a long running but friendly bunch. We try not to seem clicky but it doesn't always come across as some of us have known each other on here for a long time, just join the chatter and you'll soon be a fledgling
  2. There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's.

Linkies will be posted daily and will appear shortly. Until then, jump on board, enjoy the ride and there are still hammocks, sand, comfy seats, cushions, blankies and a full English on the naughty corner bar it is a Saturday morning, breakfast is earnt

SassitudeandSparkle · 08/09/2018 15:42

Family fun day, is it? My DD is still in her dressing gown, watching YouTube on her laptop with her headphones on. She says she need to relax after a hard week (starting secondary school) so we are going with it.

Strictly tonight. As I've said on an organisation thread on MN, I'll probably spend the rest of the night ironing to get ahead for the week. I am a bit tired myself though tbh, it's been a stressful week all round!

DH has had a few health issues this year - mainly caused by weight unfortunately - and has a few appointments next week, one of which may mean a bit of research and different menu planning as he is pre-diabetic.

Cagliostro · 08/09/2018 15:49

No family fun today, friends coming round though so will have fun (takeaway chat and possibly games) with them instead. Really hope the Caglets behave, they know they have to go upstairs earlier, not expecting them to sleep earlier of course but they need to leave the grown ups alone after maybe joining in a game or two.

And yet I feel totally unmotivated to clear up or anything, sigh

Cagliostro · 08/09/2018 17:03

Argh

Need the pointy stick! All I want to do is sit on the sofa, faff about online and eat junk food.

At least I have got the Caglets doing their washing, put the washing up away, cleaned the high chair, DS put recycling out, DD has vacuumed a bit. So could be worse. But I want to get cleaned up more and I reeeeally need a shower.

HillsBesideTheSea · 08/09/2018 17:15

No pointy stick, but i do have rather a large bucket of icy rain water that I am happy to heave in your direction.

Will be back for a chat when I have had a soak in the tub. Got drenched and it has upset my muscles to be cold and wet for so long. Was a good trip into a major city though. Productive if a tad more expensive then I had planned

HillsBesideTheSea · 08/09/2018 19:52

Yep totally counts zoo

I might have only just crawled out of the bath, I might have finished my book, I might be heading to bed after posting the links. But there are no witnesses so who cares if i do the chores now or tomo? me tomo when there is not enough time to do all the things but meh

OP posts:
Bowerbird5 · 08/09/2018 22:03

Same here. I've crawled into bed already.

Well, I had a bit of a skinful on Thursday night. Totally unlike me. I usually have two glasses of wine or three small beers the odd couple of G&Ts. I had three large glasses of wine and I think someone bought me a gin. I got up with no hangover or headache( unheard of) but I didn't go in I feel so stressed and angry. I did phone Unision later on and mentioned where I was from she said "Oh yes." Someone else had been on the previous afternoon.quite a lot before the holidays. So they are sending me details about voluntary redundancy and the other person dealing with our school will ring me during the week. DH thinks I should have the week off and I am tempted but I think it will kick off this week and I need to be in to find out my rights.
Thanks for the support there is a lot more going on but I'm not allowed to tell anyone. It is stressful enough without some riding roughshod over your feelings.
The day off helped I took extra anti depressant which I am now on. I got them from GP but held off taking them. Held off a bit too long. Yesterday I didn't give a shit!

Today I have
cleaned kitchen,
unloaded & loaded dishwasher,
one load of towels,
vacuumed floor through.
Sorted through kids jigsaws. Yes I still have some. I am going to give away half. Then DD starts saying don't give this one away.aarggh she is supposed to be encouraging me to get rid.
Made some scrummy strawberry jam. Co-op had strawberries on reduce rate of £1:50 a tray. I had left over sugar. It set straight away, first sample.
I then went and put deposit on summer house and
TA DA I have ordered my cooker. I have gone for the Everhot, the guy told me HSBC and giving 30 month loans interest free so might use that.
You all sound very busy. I sat with DD and the cat and watched H.P& the PS. It was great. Does she count even though she is 27😁

HillsBesideTheSea · 08/09/2018 22:26

Yes bower totally counts. She could be 50 but she would still be your baby... Just a grown up one Grin It sounds lovely.

Sunday Pamper yourself

Babystep - Room Rescue...

No missions as it is the weekend. Relax, enjoy, recharge ready for the new week.

I think I did my spirit renewing a little early. Such a lovely evening. It’s so nice to be able to have people round! House could’ve been tidier (was clean where it mattered though! Just cluttered in parts). But it is awesome that I could just say yep turn up whenever, and also that the Caglets could hang out upstairs (I gave them Strictly live via iPad app, after that DS went to bed and DD did craft in her room for a while) without our chatting disturbing them.

Bowerbird5 · 09/09/2018 06:05

Glad you had such a good time Cags. They probably didn't notice the clutter or if like me are relieved to see some.
I am planning an hour a day until I get the craft room tidy. I will sort some to go in the summer house.ihave a chest of drawers to paint then everything will go in there. Paper, pencils, brushes, sketch book, mini easel & a couple of books for inspiration. It will be arriving about the end of this month. I need to get cracking with the rockery.
Today's plan
Put away ironing.
Go to Mass
Go to choir meeting.
Relax.

Enjoy today

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/09/2018 07:09

Sorry you are having such a rough time bowerFlowers

Tada
Wash on
Fed kits
Bleach lav
Internet banking
Write shopping list
Pop co op emergency bread n milk(and scoutcats breakfast.he was very indignant he had to wait shop to open!)
Wash in dryer

Time my breakfast!

IVEgotthePOWER · 09/09/2018 08:01

Dear god i am like a deflated balloon

Cagliostro · 09/09/2018 08:08

Nah they are definitely the non judgy sort, actually they are pretty much the only people I was happy to even let in my old house! But still it is genuinely life changing to be able to have people round and not panic. Yes it could be tidier and I think with people I don’t know so well (like new pupils etc) I will be trying to get to a better base level of visitor readiness, but C.H.A.O.S. is a thing of the past.

I can definitely see how it could get out of control again though. There are still times I feel overwhelmed with how much there is to do! I managed a little more tidying yesterday and had the world’s quickest shower before they arrived. Didn’t eat till 10 as too busy chatting away.

DH is off at a 10k run this morning, then we need to pack for our little trip to Winchester (DSD at uni there, we will be staying at her house - housemates aren’t there ATM). Never been so should be fun, will go to the science centre etc.

Cagliostro · 09/09/2018 08:09

Don’t blame you ive how is the new job, and is childcare working out ok? I’d also ask how UP is adjusting to the change, but I have a feeling I know the answer Hmm

IVEgotthePOWER · 09/09/2018 08:22

Job is ok.
Childcare is ok.

I am soooooo tired.

Things came to a head with 'p' earlier in the week and i truely let rip and told him exactly what i thought. Have issued ultimatum of sort it out or leave. He has been more helpful since, we will see how long that lasts.

Ta da

Empty dryer and sort dry washing
Hang up white wash done overnight
Collect next load washing
Cleared and cleaned 1/3 worktop areas
Highchair cleaned
Small two dc up fed dressed

Cagliostro · 09/09/2018 08:56

Wow ive I’m sorry. Sounds like it was needed. Do you have a set “target” for how much/how long things have to improve for? Don’t let it go if/when he CBA to keep up the good work. You deserve so much better.

IVEgotthePOWER · 09/09/2018 09:02

It has to improve lots and forever....

HillsBesideTheSea · 09/09/2018 09:18

Good target. Hang in there.
I accidentally finished my christmas shopping yesterday - although might decide to pick up 1 more thing. It was not planned. And I still have December and January birthday shopping to do. And the presents that are being made to finish/start making. But fighting through crowds is succesfully avoided.

Today to renew my spirit I am going to be making a mess of the lounge, sticking pins into myself and hopefully ending up with having created a thing.

Also to do:
washing
taming kitchen
folding
clothes putting away
sorting ds' room
loading and running dishwasher
collecting ds
backing books
sorting out school storage unit
...

yeah. Over. Ambitious. .. Blush better get moving then as I have to leave at 4pm.
