September fledgling roll call: Ready, Set, FLY....

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/09/2018 08:25

Yes this is the bonkers back to school thread. We welcome you to jump aboard for the ride. We are following the Fly lady system for taming the chaos (can't have anyone over syndrome). We are at various levels and there is NO obligation to follow it to the letter (we've installed a bar in the naughty corner for hanging out and relaxing when needed)

4 levels for flying:
Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks
Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

So ground rules, yes ground rules it is September:

  1. Newbies - we are a long running but friendly bunch. We try not to seem clicky but it doesn't always come across as some of us have known each other on here for a long time, just join the chatter and you'll soon be a fledgling
  2. There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's.

Linkies will be posted daily and will appear shortly. Until then, jump on board, enjoy the ride and there are still hammocks, sand, comfy seats, cushions, blankies and a full English on the naughty corner bar it is a Saturday morning, breakfast is earnt

Off to bed night night.

SassitudeandSparkle · 05/09/2018 23:33

Belated birthday wishes to your son foxes, two already! Good to hear he had a lovely day.

House still needs serious work here, have all day tomorrow so do need to take the opportunity to make an impression.

Have dealt with piece of admin that came in today day 2 of school and a form has come home for a small voluntary contribution for something ...

Cagliostro · 05/09/2018 23:46

Happy birthday fox cub! 🦊🎂

Nice day at the transport museum but a bit marred by DD1 being a moody madam. It’s a hard day for her (mixed feelings about not starting y7) so I just tried to help her hug it out while not giving in to silliness.

We did the art challenge today too which went down really well. Forgot iPad stuff though 🤦‍♀️ But I’m keeping a record of everything we do - bought an academic year diary (so as to keep it separate from regular one) in which I will write everything each day. Won’t write when we miss something as I want it to be a positive record of what we have achieved.

ta da
✅tried various things to find bus pass, no luck. Will try at police station though as sometimes things like that get handed in there.
✅art challenge
✅more planning of home ed (in my head)
✅another Tesco order and I remembered to find the voucher on my email
✅email admin for trampolining

Fuck all actual housework though, mega behind on laundry and stuff.

Cagletini is asleep on the floor and I CBA to move her. I don’t feel sleepy but I will regret this later.

Cineraria · 06/09/2018 07:49

I was going to say the same as you Bower, my face must have been a picture when I read the list for this week and saw that it was all the most neglected areas in the house!

Happy second birthday little foxes! Glad it was a good day. Swimming especially sounds fun. It's so nice that your youngest stayed a baby for longer, even if you still have nappies to do! What kind of cake was it that you had? My anti procrastination task, that I put off yesterday, was to arrange something for both DSes birthdays (they are four days apart). I think we'll just have a get together with all their grandparents and a small cake each. I think that's what they'd both enjoy more than a big party. Would it be too impersonal to use a Doodle poll to fix a date with family, I wonder, instead of ringing find everyone a dozen times until I find a date they can all do? They seem so busy now that they are retired.

I keep meaning to put my list with what I've done and what I haven't but it seems so long! It's written in a notebook but I should probably start doing it on my phone so it's easier to carry about and then I could choy and paste it too.

HillsBesideTheSea · 06/09/2018 08:14

Today is an everyone fed no one day aim for the day.

Morning everyone. Thanks for links Hills.

Belated happy birthday to your DS foxes CakeBearCakeBear.

I often don’t get around to posting my lists either Cineraria. I think doodle poll would work, you can always put something on it (dependent on how likely your relatives are to find it impersonal) about how you would very much like everyone to be able to get together so this is the easiest way to achieve that.

So the girls are back at school and I have a day off to catch up. I am hoping to treat myself and sit down and watch a film this afternoon which I hardly ever do but first I must do something about the state of the house!

To do:-
Make to do list!
Sort something time consuming out Hmm
Organise / clean / tidy

Cagliostro · 06/09/2018 08:28

Ended up sleeping on the sofa. Oops. Spending this morning doing bog all, waiting for mum to arrive while the others go to trampolining. In future I think they could take the baby but it depends how long the walk takes (she doesn’t feed as much now but I’m still a bit nervous of her being too far away 😳). This is a huge change from them having to leave about 80min before the class, and then I’d have to meet them in town as DH wouldn’t be able to get back home before leaving for work. But new house is nearer leisure centre AND work.

He’s also found out that he may be moving stores. Headhunted (in the good way, not a bounty on arrest way 😂) and the new store is basically the same distance walk away (but also only one bus if he did need to, rather than two as it is currently). But the main thing is, it may mean at least some of his shifts are mornings. This is HUGE. Trying not to get too excited. But also means a lot of change in how we manage home ed as of course he won’t be here with the baby. And I am hoping to start tutoring (piano/maths) other kids again. And possibly rearranging sports club. I’m not entirely sure how it will all work. But I do know that DH doing all late shifts is royally shit and it needs to change.

MeetOnTheLedge · 06/09/2018 09:01

Well, finally off to school again for my two today. I have to say this has been by far the best summer holidays we've had since they started school and I'm a bit sad to see it over (usually I'm climbing the walls by now). We had a lovely last day out yesterday, then I came home and decluttered my garden shed. Still needs another session, but its a lot better and long overdue. Half an hour for MN admin before I go to work.

Cineraria - I've used Doodle polls for all sorts of get togethers, but they are usually preceded by a bit of general chat first by email/messenger etc.

Cag - that's exciting news about DH's job, but yes, a big change if he moves to different shifts.

Bower - I'd love to live near enough to pop to Scotland, we normally go for a week every summer but due to changed family circumstances we didn't this year and probably won't next, I miss going but it's a long way (we live in SE England).

Cagliostro · 06/09/2018 09:28

I’m glad you had a lovely summer!

In a way much as I absolutely resent the late shifts, I’m wondering if the best result will be that he does two lates and two earlies or something. One nice thing is that the new store is bigger and therefore can’t open late on Sundays, so if he works Sundays he will be home by 5 and we can maybe make that movie night or something. Hopefully he can still have regular shifts as that will make things easier to plan. I’m wondering if my paid teaching work will have to all be crammed into one day, when DH is definitely here, rather than trying to fit lessons in here and there. Argh.

So nice living nearer trampolining - we were a bit disorganised this morning, but still managed to get in some grammar work. The time we started said work was the time we would have had to leave from the old house! And I’ve instructed them to practice times tables on the walk.

Bowerbird5 · 06/09/2018 23:05

What a shit day I have had. Thought about telling them to stuff it! Been to pub for tea had several large glasses of wine and a whisky. DH phoned giving me advice I was happy to go to sleep now upset and wide awake. Very peed off. NQT is a little bar stared and I won't be helping him ever again. Little shit.

Sorry but it takes me a lot to be this upset. I helped him loads last year and he stabbed me in the back today because I slipped up and called him by first name because I was stressed!

MeetOnTheLedge · 06/09/2018 23:12

I'm sorry Bower, NQT sounds really up himself. Hope you get a decent night's sleep and feel a bit calmer in the morning.

Cagliostro · 06/09/2018 23:23

Good lord, are you supposed to call him sir 🙄 or just Mr Wankbadger or whatever his name is? Clearly the qualification doesn’t require social skills. Big hugs 💐

Off to bed. Picnic tomorrow, the weather better hold.

I’ve got the geography book so I could start planning but sleep feels more important.
