September fledgling roll call: Ready, Set, FLY....

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/09/2018 08:25

Yes this is the bonkers back to school thread. We welcome you to jump aboard for the ride. We are following the Fly lady system for taming the chaos (can't have anyone over syndrome). We are at various levels and there is NO obligation to follow it to the letter (we've installed a bar in the naughty corner for hanging out and relaxing when needed)

4 levels for flying:
Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks
Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

So ground rules, yes ground rules it is September:

  1. Newbies - we are a long running but friendly bunch. We try not to seem clicky but it doesn't always come across as some of us have known each other on here for a long time, just join the chatter and you'll soon be a fledgling
  2. There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's.

Linkies will be posted daily and will appear shortly. Until then, jump on board, enjoy the ride and there are still hammocks, sand, comfy seats, cushions, blankies and a full English on the naughty corner bar it is a Saturday morning, breakfast is earnt

SC sometimes the fat that you use to make it can influence the taste. Sometimes replacing butter with an alternative can have that effect. Ditto re what Zoo said re baking powder/bi carb.

Nooo don’t punch the chocolate! Pinch it if you must

Karma is a wanker. The baby is still wide awake. So we are camping out downstairs with king of the hill. Busy morning tomorrow with dance workshops and DH has a run (but at least can drop DD off first)

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/09/2018 05:27

I have barely slept.me and my hormones have officially fallen out!

I would never willingly punch chocolate

Think I shall get up and start menu planning for coming week as need to buy pack up bits later(and sort lil zoo new school shoes as hers are let wet in)

Spreadingcudweed · 23/09/2018 06:17

Good morning all!

Hills/Zoo I rarely replace butter!!! (Except when using half lard/half butter for very short short crust pastry!). Have tasted muffins again this morning (early start owing to church thing followed by teen thing) and you are both right about the bicarb being the culprit, so ripping up that recipe that's for sure!

Have a good Sunday everyone!

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/09/2018 06:36

Only on Fledglings could one be offered Arson equipment and poop and it be a good thing!

I take it he hasn’t adjusted to you working then 🙄

I did not get much sleep. Going to laze until I have to take DS to join DD at the dance workshop. She’s just left with DH as she has jazz and contemporary first, then they are both doing urban.

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/09/2018 09:11

Morning. I could sleep for a week but stuff to do. Throat is burning from tea last night (it had ketchup in it) but it was a much promised treat for ds so I thought I would try to get away with a little. Yep and nope. Despite a small portion. Was lovely though. Lack of sleep and doing too much is really catching up with me.

To do
the garden thing
Cheese sauce for tomato free lasagne
cauliflower, sweet potato, sweede and parnish mash for potato free cottage pie
deal with the apples
wash bedding
make sure uniform is clean
finish ds' room off
finish a database off

And that is the minimum only list Hmm you should see the must ideally get done list, It is HUGE! Sad

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/09/2018 09:43

Nope, I just make it gravy flavoured, bisto tbh which thickens it a little too but then I skimp on the liquid as I am not a lover of gravy in general and hate thin gravy. I guess it helps that I had a dislike to cooked tomatos before the allergy.

So the meat side of it is leek (but you can use onion and I do depending on who is eating as that is an allergen here), mushrooms - lots, spinach, meat, gravy. Picky eaters and allergies means other veg are served on the side to make it easier. I am sure there is lots you can do to add flavour and texture to it but half the ingredients you use are on our allergy list so it makes it hard to include them. My suggestion is to go with your gut and I am sure it will be lovely.

Morning.
Had a good day yesterday. There was a village do on including lunch and afternoon tea so DH drove me around the corner to it. DD came too. It was about historical gardens and some folk music about birds and some local history. The lunch as always was yummy. Lots of very fresh salads, quiches that looked very rustic and yummy ( wished I could eat these) and some cold meats. Even DD managed to have a plateful even though she snuck a wrap beforehand because she thought there would be nothing for vegans.
I had a piece of apple layer cake which was delicious for afternoon tea. AGM was really quick at the end. Then I was in home in time to go to loo, decide on a jigsaw( DD is mad for them at the moment) and be ready for HP which I hadn't actually seen, then Casulty, Eve and bed. Eve is a bit blood thirsty for me. Bet the actress enjoyed playing the killer though.
Had a really good nights sleep. Took slightly more medication so slept well.Hoping DH will take me to church. I want to go to choir as new music given out. He said he will take me but not willing to pick up at station. Arrrggh! What is the difference we go right past it? Men. I'll now have to beg someone else to do it. I wish I had known because I could have asked earlier, days ago!

stegosauruslady · 23/09/2018 11:18

Morning!

Official lazy Sunday here. I just made us all american pancakes for brunch (I can't make english ones, but make great american ones!) and I'm now relaxing with a cuppa before I do a few mundane jobs.

To do...

DP wants some help with putting some shelves up.
School uniform washing for the week
Make porridge bars for DDs' breakfasts
Make packed lunches
Cook (and tidy up from!) sunday roast

Cagliostro · 23/09/2018 13:21

Ooh I need to watch that Eve thing. I love Jodie Comer. I just finished watching the US version of The Slap last night. Discovered I have a distinct liking of Peter Skasgaard’s lovely soft voice 😍😳😂

Back home after dance workshops. We got a taxi there as I was feeling rough this morning and the rain was shocking. Thankfully not so bad on the way home. Got stuff for dinner from Iceland. Will make chicken and salad wraps. Baby is asleep now I should be doing stuff but still NOPE.

DS did really well keeping up with the street dance lesson. He’s a lot younger than the others (him 9, DD 11, other two 13+) and the music was really fast! Hopefully he’s not too put off. Nice chat with the principal as well, looks like DD will do her first ballet exam at Christmas 😱 and they want her to do a ballroom demo in the next show (not till 2020) as although they don’t teach it they want to do a sort of showcase thing. Which is nice but DD is very shy and so not sure how she’d manage really. But we have a long time to think of it! It’s nice that it’s being considered though, on of the other dance schools here won’t let you join if you do dance with any other schools 🙄🙄🙄 even if it’s a type of dance they don’t offer themselves 🙄🙄🙄 snobby gits.

Must stop waffling. Time to catch up on sleb masterchef.

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/09/2018 14:04

Glad everyone seems be enjoying their Sundays

Had pick up D's from Sunday school+anxiety got too bad/panic attack too hold and i was summoned to collect him😢

Tada
Shoe shop for lil zoo trail everyone
Food shopping
Just had late lunch
Lil zoo bedding gone in as cossima sneezed snot all over covers

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/09/2018 14:06

To do
Shop away
Wash scoutcat(rolled in something sticky outside and as not sure what I'd rather didn't lick it off...
Make muffins
Shedload wash/dry/ironing

I'm stopping no matter what before 4to have a naice bath and pamper my feet!

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/09/2018 16:44

Ds is being an arse. We are basically at war. Angry One more unreasonable demand or attempt at a guilt trip when he won't help with anything and I will lose the rest of my voice! thank god the neighbour is having to be at work today

Feel even more like shit than when I got up. About to go freeze in the garden again for a few hours. Or not. It has just started to rain. Bugger. I guess that is my notice to take it a little bit easier. Will need to go at least rescue a few things liable to blow away.

Come join me in naughty corner hills I don't list my shit in spectacular breakdown of sobs this afternoon's D2 leading lil zoo have broken me.thr mess, drop everything where they sit,the rudeness, refuse help, yell at me.on top D's following me everywhere I cracked and yelledtil I was hoarse and may have thrown a few items in their room like clothes and books on floor then left and slam my bedroom to and flop on bed in huge waves of sobs....

I'm getting on average 2-4 hrs sleep.i have D's stuck like glue-understandabls as he's scared but draining me dry on top of girls.my tank is empty.
Plans naice bath jump ship when. Dd2 decide drawing was more important than tasks I'd ask help with(incl drop something off at house round corner) by time did everything myself I had neither energy or effort left to pamper myself and gave up

Not a great day

Not parenting at its best

foxessocks · 23/09/2018 17:11

Oh no sorry about all the rubbish stuff going on BrewCakeFlowers

Ta da
Cooked dinner - keema matar (sp!?)
Tidied toys up
Tidied play doh up (hate play doh!)
Washing on
Washing machine cleaned out due to dirty marks on dd white shirts Angry
More washing on
Washing hung up
Dishwasher on
Hoovered living room

Some of the above done by dh so I can't take all the credit, frankly it's a wonder we've done anything as we are all tired. There may have been a gin too many consumed last night while the dc were busy staying up far too late at nanny's house HmmGrin very early bed tonight for the dc! We have to stay up to watch the last Bodyguard episode though. So we'll have to have a strong coffee or something after dinner...

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/09/2018 18:06

Not the most productive weekend but not too bad either. Will hope to be more productive next week!

stegosauruslady · 23/09/2018 18:23

List is finished...including herding the DDs through the shower. When there are three of them it takes bloody ages and includes arguments about which order they shower in. Yes, I am having a fourth one. Gin

DP did some wiring today which means I am buying a chest freezer this week, which will live in the cellar. I am excited. I think this means that I am also old.

Flowers for everyones' crappy days. I am looking forward to the quiet house tomorrow while everyone is in school/at work.

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/09/2018 18:27

Steggy do you have summer and winter curtains and walk around muttering darkly about how things are not meant to last any more? If not you are not old.
