Things to try:

Have a delve with a wire coathanger

Have a go with a plunger

If neither of these work you may need the plumber I'm afraid.

builders merchants - for a fiver you can buy a big bottle - cant remember the name - of stuff that will unblock the loo, drains etc.

DimpledThighs · 19/05/2007 18:42

wait a bit?

If it is loo rool and other child related things it can kind of dissolve itself over night.

katzg · 19/05/2007 18:50

I don't think you're supposed to put Mr Muscle down the loo... can you think of anything that could be causing it? Baby wipes or something?

katzg · 19/05/2007 18:55

we use washable wipes have horrible feeling........

Do you have access to your soil pipe? We had major problems a while back and by knocking on it you could tell it wasn't empty...

RustyBear · 19/05/2007 19:43

Ours blocked a few months ago & my brother lifted the inspection cover in the garden, where all the pipes from the house join up & found it was totally blocked with washing powder -I'd obviously been using too much (though actually we all do our own washing so I don't know why I automatically take the blame)
Be warned - it was exceedingly nasty in there when he opened it - the next door neighbour came out of his front door at just the wrong moment & retreated spluttering....

elasticbandstand · 19/05/2007 19:48

up and down very fast witha plunger, wroked for me.

Bellie · 19/05/2007 19:49

Open the inspection cover nearest to the toilet and see if it is blocked there or not. If it is you can invest in drainrods that you can probably use to unblock it - B&Q sell them.
If it appears to be empty there you could get a plunger and try pumping the water through from the toilet end.
HTH and good luck!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 19/05/2007 19:50

im with rustybear.
i had a look in our drain wotsit where all the pipes join, just out of interest one day as the washing machine was stinking (again!) and found a little damn forming over the opening from the downstairs toilet.
poked it with a coat hanger, and hey presto!
sorted!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 19/05/2007 19:51

*dam, not damn!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 19/05/2007 19:52

ooooh yes. also, if youhave one, shove the hosepipe up there as far as it will go and turn the tap on full blast!
sometimes, water from the other direction gets things moving!
that is basically what dynorod do, but on a more powerful scale.

katzg · 20/05/2007 16:23

coat hanger and lots of wiggling solved the problem! thanks for all your suggestions
