When I was a child my parents literally moved to a house on the opposite side of the road (our poor cat was confused for ages!). The longest was from Sunderland to Colchester.

I moved to the flat next door once.

Furthest was 300 miles, including an hours ferry journey

My parents moved to the house next door when I was a kid. I’m too young to remember how but I imagine it was rather odd to watch!

Furthest - Cardiff to West Sussex
Closest - the house at the end of the garden of the house before

I have moved to two houses down the street. The furthest would be no more than a mile, despite moving house 7 times lol

I moved from Lincolnshire to northern Ireland and back again.
Closest I've moved was across the road, I can see my old house from my front windows, and wistfully remember single, child free life over the road

We moved within the same development once, just across a courtyard. We had been renting to see if we liked the area before buying. The furthest permanent move was Dublin to London and then back to Dublin two decades later.

Shortest would up a flight of stairs to a new flat and longest would be UK to South America

6,000 miles when I was 14, 6,000 back again when 18. Ended up up now ten minutes from my first house so a rather long round trip.

530 miles, Swansea (Wales) to Edzell (Scotland)

8 miles, within the Same city but closer to my parents and better schools.

I currently live 300 miles from my first home, 12 years later this is home now. If we ever move it'll be a bigger house on the same street, the previous two occupants of this house both live on the street as well further along, no one ever leaves 😂

Moved halfway up our street, about 150yards. Amazing how much heavier something gets when carried over that distance...

From South Asia to London. Furthest.
And closest I moved was to a flat on the floor below. Was odd. Moved using multiple trips with bin bags and an Ikea trolley thing.

Furthest Glasgow to Bath. About 400 miles.
Shortest - bought the house we were already living in when landlord said he wanted to sell. Zero.

England to Scotland

When I was a student we moved to a flat across the road. Furthest, about 50 miles.

Longest - Moved from Surrey to Christchurch, New Zealand.
(Returned to Britain nearly six years later)

Shortest - about 400m from our rented home to our first purchased house on the same development.

Furthest: Derbyshire to Southern Spain. Returned to UK 8 years later.

Shortest: In Spain, about 200 metres from one cortijo to a much bigger one just up the lane.

Furthest New York to Scotland.

Shortest across the river in our village

Shortest 25m as crow flies. We did it by car and on foot.

I sold to people literally round the corner - they liked the area, just wanted a bigger house.

Shortest was when my ex wanted to switch to a larger apartment in the same complex.

Longest was when I moved from the US to the UK.

I've moved many times and the problem is that even if you're just moving next door, you still have to pack everything up and sort out moving furniture and such. Recently moved just down the road and I intend to stay put for a very long time!
