I know this will sound stupid but I have always been completely freaked out by spiders and wasps and I actually can't really help with the wasps but I took my DD to see the movie Charlotte's Web and was so moved that I haven't killed a spider since. It has, I'd say almost completely, vured me of my spider phobia (subconciously) and have since had the same couple of spiders living on the landing! Even my DD has named the spider living in her room, as has DS (2)! It's was so weird - it was a moving film and even though the spider (Charlotte) was obviously not real, it really made me think of it from the spider's point of view. Ok - so now everyone's thinking- take her away to a padded cell!
Wasps are different though - although my mother says you mustn't let the children see you're scared of them, I scream then run!!

my cat eats spidesr and wasps!

A spider will keep the wasps down.

No seriously now:

My friend lives in chille where there are dangerous spiders and she says everyone vaccums their house every day without fail and that keeps them down.

Wasps - shut the windows during the day and get a can of 'raid' to blast the odd one that gets in.

I get the net cover for windows/doors, cut it to the size of the window frame and it comes with double sided tape, you can get packs from betterware. I feel much better about having them up and its nice to be able to open with window when its hot

my builder fitter new windows today, am paranoid that theres a wasp in the house now!

Citron-scented candles will keep wasps away. You might feel a bit stupid lighting candles in the daytime (when wasps are most active), but it works.

yes - conkers.

I've had them in almost every corner of every room since last autumn and not seen one (actually there was one in a room with no conkers)

I'm reliably informed they emit some chemical/smell that repels spiders.

Basil leaves keeps spiders away. I heard this on tv a fews years ago and since I'm a big wimp I put the leaves around the house, discretely of course, enough people think I'm barmy, and it really works. I get hardly any spiders here.

Wasps, definately citronella candles - works for any flying no-nos. I buy the tealight ones.
