Fledglings cocoon, we're Flying in June ... .

Welcome to the June 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

They are particularly interested in the ups and downs of hay markets Einstein Wink

BluePheasant that's the story of my life tbh - ordinary things ticking along - decluttering not doing so well. I just know that without Flylady I wouldn't be doing the ordinary things either Grin Congrats on list and hope your dh continues to improve. Glad to hear your dd liked her new school! And whoo hoo to naked lego Grin

Still wrestling with deadline here - mahoosively behind - think I may have to send embarrassing grovelling e-mail. Oh dear.

Well the import tax can be a killer SC don't blame them.
Good luck with project wrestling.

Restful day here as a lovely friend took DD on a trip for me as I couldn't go. No way could I have managed going out. Played some board games with DS and this evening managed to cook. Bloody glad DH is off tomorrow though

Stilllivinginazoo · 20/06/2017 19:45

I have discovered I no longer "do" heat.been like limp irritable rag since heatwave hitSad
House crap hole. Hoping it will break after Tom as weatherlady says.I guess be better if nights weren't so damn uncomfortable and sleepless

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 20/06/2017 20:28

SC just seen the news, if my geography is not wrong I hope you and all of yours are safe. Although I will be totally honest and am hoping my geography /memory is wrong!

MercuryRising · 20/06/2017 20:29

Hi. I was also coming on to check you and your loved ones are safe SC. Hope you are all ok.

Cagliostro · 20/06/2017 20:40

Oh gosh I just read about that. Hope all ok.

Sanscollier · 20/06/2017 20:50

Oh thank you for the kind words of concern everyone. We are all fine thank you. Apparently the incident (near the Gare Centrale) has been contained. It's terrible to say it, but it was only a matter of time and we have been expecting it really Sad.

We are temporarily driving dd to school atm for this very reason and she anyway doesn't have to be in for very many more days before the end of the academic year and the start of the summer holidays. She finished her state exams today and has to sit three more internal (much harder!) school exams tomorrow and Thurs, and then it's all over again for another year apart from an end-of-term Mass and the collection of her results (gulp). Can't believe it really - the academic year has gone so fast!! I've been constantly playing catch-up as usual!

Still wrestling here with editing work so had better get on although my brain is now officially dead!

Just for Zoo > "Here is a box, a musical box, wound up and ready to play. But this box can hide a secret inside. Can you guess what is in it today?" Smile

Glad you have had a bit of a rest Cag and yay to helpful friends!

Sorry, posted too soon.

I am only half way through my editing work and have already made 581 revisions Confused. Not sure I can do anymore tonight though.

Phew what a scorcher! Hope everyone is surviving the heat!

The summary for Wednesday 21 June is available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

Baby-step no. 21 for Wed 21st June is here. Read the AskFlylady section on the website or don't.

We are in Zone 4 this week : The Master Bedroom, Bath, Closet (June 18-24) here.

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list for Zone 4 (if you are at that stage) is here.

Wednesday's mission is here. Ok so we have already (in theory Grin) cleaned the surface of the bed and under the bed. Wed's mission involves cleaning whatever is to the left of the bed whether that is a bedside table or in my case a stack of cardboard boxes containing books and magazines.

The daily focus for Wednesday is anti-procrastination. Do something you have been dreading!

The monthly habit in June is drinking water. Particularly important in this current hot weather!

Daily reminders (which should also update automatically) are here.

Go steady in the sunshine everyone!

Longtime · 20/06/2017 22:09

Waves to everyone, especially sanscollier. Glad we weren't out and about on the metro today. One of ds2's best friends was on the metro (though not in the carriage) that was blown up in Brussels last year and a friend was at the airport with her dh and dd2. It's scary.

I have done nothing today except sleep in, have lunch with friends (long overdue - I've been avoiding people for the past 18 months as my df was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in January 2016 and passed away in January of this year), had a couple of students, went shopping, ate and flopped down on the couch to watch Netflix. Oh and ate sushi.

Dishes in the sink but it's still 29 degrees in the house at 11:10 at night with all doors and windows open!

BluePheasant · 20/06/2017 22:41

Would do the same re driving to school sc just feels so frightening how imminent these attacks are atm. Such a relief in this case no one else was hurt.

I was out in garden until 10pm, love a bit of late night gardening Grin found a frog in front garden along with our dozens of newt residents Smile

DH not working tomorrow, seems like he has a really nasty virus, achy and even shivery in this heat!

I know how you feel zoo am waiting for it to cool down to do things like hoovering, we just aren't used to functioning in this heat!

Night everyone Smile

BluePheasant · 20/06/2017 22:47

Sorry to hear about your DF longtime, it's so hard isn't it? I lost my mum to cancer nearly 10 years ago now. I definitely get times where I feel low and want to be alone even after all this time and I think I retreated from everyone a lot more than I realised at the time for the first 6-12 months, so well done for catching up with your friends, far more important than chores! I'm sure they were so happy to see you Smile

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 20/06/2017 22:58

Hello all and a warm welcome to Longtime and Alfie (although I now have the Alfie bear tune in my head). Have been AWOL as managed to drop my phone in water Shock. I got it out straight away and put it in rice and so far it is working!

Too much on the thread to catch up on but have read and there are some really good tips on here lately, thanks all. Thanks for links SC and glad to hear you are ok if course.

Longtime, sleeping in and seeing friends sounds like an excellent use of the day Grin.

Ta da (had 1.5 hours childfree):-
Gone through three drawers of clothes and got rid of quite a few. Some that are so unflattering I have no idea why I kept them and a load that are too small for DD2.

Decluttered a couple of books and jigsaw type things
Took stuff to the charity shop!

Eyes are shutting now so will 'see' you all tomorrow.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 20/06/2017 22:59

Also how do you all store your lego?

Cagliostro · 20/06/2017 23:20

Our lego is in a giant plastic tub. No organisation required! But the Caglets aren't bothered about keeping models etc

Longtime · 21/06/2017 00:03

So much Lego still in this house. All kept in storage boxes according to colour. If there is too much for my box, it's size and colour. Ds1 is a collector though and as he is currently staying at dm's it's all here. We are surrounded by it!

Stilllivinginazoo · 21/06/2017 02:08

sorry to hear about your dflongtime I lost my dad In December(dementia).seeing friends is excellent use of the day

Lego is in one huge crate as like cag mine aren't fussy keeping sets separate and happily dive in to build totally random things(ds favourite at mo is building time machines).BTW build Lego box to store Lego bits is class!Grin

Sanscollier · 21/06/2017 07:55

Hi all. Hope everyone ok!

[Furious menopausal woman rant alert - feel free to ignore]
God give me strength! Just back from hideous school run (extra early for exam). Still shaking! Could have killed dd this morning who had full scale melt-down just before we left which nearly made us late. She couldn't find the bloody enormous atlas she needed for her exam this morning. (This was after assuring me last night that she was aware we needed to leave early and that she had prepared everything in advance. Stupidly took her word for it.) After a lot of hysterical running up and downstairs, we found it but it nearly made us late, and she was crying in the car because she thought she wouldn't be let in the exam room. I still don't know if she was or not but it if she was, it was not a very optimum start for her. She also left her phone behind so she couldn't text me to let me know.

Then I came home and walked in to the play/tv room (which I didn't tidy up last night before bed as usual because I worked until about 2.40 am in the end) and have found plates, cups, empty biscuit wrappers and tissues on the floorShock, an ice cream tub on the sofa arm, bags and shoes all over the place, items of clothing strewn about, piles of cables and books and papers strewn everywhere. I am going easy on dd during exam season but this is ridiculous!

Go upstairs and bathroom is in similar state except this time it is towels and dirty uniform on the floor Hmm

Makes one feel like the ruddy skivvy [anger]

[Goes in search of Flylady's essay on Flying with teens]

Something is going to have to change over the summer holidays

OP posts:
Sanscollier · 21/06/2017 08:09

Longtime glad you are ok! Between us, dh and I knew 8 people who just missed the bomb on the metro by a matter of minutes (one of whom was our former dog walker). And the mother of dd's best friend had landed at Zaventem for a business meeting just after that bomb had gone off and went through the frightening experience of having to be evacuated with everyone. It is indeed really unnerving atm.

Nowt wrong with a bit of "me" time - sounds like you need it after everything you have been through recently. I am so sorry about your father Flowers. The F L Y in Flylady actually stands for "Finally Loving Yourself" which, although barftastic in the extreme, makes a solid point I think. You'll be far more productive if you get a bit of time for yourself now and then.

Bluepheasant oohh, late night gardening sounds lovely, especially with frogs! Sorry to hear your dh is still so unwell.

Toostressy phew to phone being ok. And many congrats on clothing and toy decluttering and for taking it to the chazza immediately thereafter Star Star

Right, got to head back to my manuscript now! Keep going everyone! Encouraging wing flaps to one and all!

OP posts:
Sanscollier · 21/06/2017 08:09

Oh and thank you again for all the kind wishes Flowers

OP posts:
YesEinsteinsMumDid · 21/06/2017 08:40

SC that sounds pretty much how ds leaves everything he was horrified to be asked to carry a few things upstairs this morning Hmm but given the choice between carrying his stuff up or helping to tidy guess what he chose? Wink

Gotta run late for work because despite owning 4 hair brushes I can never find 1 in the morning. Someone has to change over the summer.. Grin
