Other than the obvious dishes and kids plastic Tupperware.

What else can you put in your dishwasher to make your life easier with cleaning?

I have been putting the following in to save time with cleaning by hand:
Extractor fan vents
Washing machine detergent draw
Oven trays

The revolting green bin for food recycling especially when the flimsy bag has leaked.

Dish drainer

Crunchyside · 15/05/2017 23:07

I washed an old comb in mine the other day.

Crunchyside · 15/05/2017 23:09

Oh, jars come up really nice and the labels usually melt away too, useful if you ever want to make your own jams and preserves, or if you just want them as candle holders. Most ice cream tubs, butter tubs etc come out fine too if you want them as makeshift Tupperware containers/lunch boxes/toy organisers.

DH bought a special plastic thing that holds his baseball hats in shape so they can be washed in the dishwasher. We lived in Southern California for a long time so baseball hats were necessary to stop his head from getting sun burnt.

I'm told it's the only right way to clean a nit comb!

I missed the potty in the dishwasher thread. Bet there was some pearl-clutching over that!

Washing machine drawer

BusyBee2017 · 15/05/2017 23:19

These are awesome ideas!! Thank you everybody! I think somebody thought u meant electrical plugs but plugs from sinks is a great idea

We used to put our dishwasher on very 2nd or 3rd day because it was never full!! Obviously after rinsing the dishes before they went in th e dishwasher (I know some people are against this) but now we put on everyday and fill up with plastic Tupperware and other stuff. I will be putting on daily without any problems now!

I was thinking my dish draining rack too but the bottom tray gets grubby

Might as well make my life easier and let dishwasher do the hard work

Has anybody put the removals parts from has cooker in the dishwasher? I know somebody said from her old gas cooker... but why not the current one you are using

Didn't know you were able to put the plastic Tupperware like ice cream tubs/yoghurt tubs.. thought they were dishwasher safe lol

I think you can poach a whole salmon wrapped in foil in the top tray (no dishwasher tablet) or that could just be an urban myth...

mineofuselessinformation · 15/05/2017 23:39

Oh, and if you have children like mine who used to argue over toothbrushes, put them through the dishwasher and tell them they're new.

Ollivander84 · 15/05/2017 23:57

Stirrups and bits. My parents loved having a child with a horse Grin

TheBadgersMadeMeDoIt · 16/05/2017 00:19

Busybee the only reason I don't clean my current hob with the aid of the dishwasher is because it's an induction!

I do, however, use the dishwasher for oven shelves, the grill pan, the metal bars that hold up the shelves, and the glass window thingy that protects the built-in microwave. I am currently looking into the feasibility of dismantling the oven doors and putting the glass in the dishwasher.

And I have a kitchen extractor hood with removable metal filters. In they go...

WicksEnd · 16/05/2017 00:39

Bin lid
Fruit bowl
Toothpaste holder container thingy
T light holders
Cutlery tray
Make up brush holder
Dish Cloths
Vases
Tea/coffee sugar canister

Watch out dkids & dcats

BumWad · 16/05/2017 13:32

Do you think I could put my Yankee candle jar in? Or will the wax end up in the pipes somewhere?

Missb00 · 16/05/2017 14:45

The metal things that go over the hob rings, what are they called? Anyway yeah them.

BusyBee2017 · 16/05/2017 20:42

Thanks everybody

So you can put pan suppers from a gas cooker? And all the other accessories? Ie gas burners, basically all of the parts in this photo?

What else can you put in dishwasher?

My dish drying rack fell apart this evening when I grabbed one side so I just stuck it all in the dishwasher to clean lol

I also put the metal flat tray which is inside the sink... I have no idea what it is called

BusyBee2017 · 16/05/2017 21:18

FriendshipBraclet · 16/05/2017 21:26

Didn't a mumsnetter say years ago she put her wellies in there and there was hell on? Grin
I put all animal dishes in there, hadn’t thought of hob pan holders.
My extractor fan vents went all mis-shapen in my dishwasher.
I have however made flavoured vodka in the dishwasher!

Crunchyside · 16/05/2017 21:27

Not sure if someone has mentioned it but I've seen people saying they've cooked salmon in the diswasher before!!

BusyBee2017 · 16/05/2017 21:32
