What else can you put in dishwasher?

Other than the obvious dishes and kids plastic Tupperware.

What else can you put in your dishwasher to make your life easier with cleaning?

I have been putting the following in to save time with cleaning by hand:
Extractor fan vents
Washing machine detergent draw
Oven trays

Thanks for that

I am so surprised at what else you can put in a dishwasher I never even thought about half of these!

Maybe I am missing a few things with stuff to put in the washing machine and should start a thread on that!!

Yes, I remember the loo seat in a DW thread, was that the same thread where someone mentioned putting their toilet brush in? . I wonder if it was the same poster?

I put a few things in the DW - but am a lot more picky about what goes in, than say, the washer - due to it being where all your eating utensils are cleaned.

Question for those who put their washing machine drawer in, does it not end up making your DW smell of fabric softener and thus your crockery? I wash mine by hand religiously (at least once every 2 weeks), and you can still smell softener (yes I have sniffed the drawer after washing). So I just can't bring myself to put it in the DW.

I've put Crocs in, they were fine.
"Dull" wellies also fine, but dishwasher took the shine off shiney ones.

oh thanks bike, feel quite excited now Smile

I recall an episode of CSI or something like it with a nefarious murder at an orgy wife swappy type party. They opened the dishwasher while evidence collecting to see a wide variety of dildos and various other insertables. So apparently that's an option, who knew.

Paint brushes
Base ball caps

Pantah630 · 19/05/2017 15:42

DH says the only reason to get one is as a parts washer he does the washing up by the way

RatherBeRiding · 19/05/2017 15:45

Stirrups and bits. My parents loved having a child with a horse

I sometimes feel like getting a dishwasher just so my tack will sparkle! Grin

Do all washing machine drawers come out???

elephantoverthehill · 28/05/2017 16:18

If isn't electrical and it belongs in a kitchen, it goes in, otherwise I don't give it kitchen space. Also rugby boots.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 28/05/2017 16:23

pretty much the only thing i don't put in there are wooden boards

i have the same attitude to the dishwasher as I do to the washing machine..I am NOT handwashing it and if it doesn't survive it'll be replaced with something that will.

iknowimcoming · 28/05/2017 16:30

We have that policy too Tondelay Grin

Re candle holders (glass) - put them in the freezer for a few hours, this somehow shrinks the wax slightly and it usually pops out in one piece, then you could dishwasher the jar safely Wink

unlucky83 · 28/05/2017 17:19

I have a bosch d/washer - replaced my old one with another bosch cos I wasn't sure if other makes do this or not but my top rack comes out and you can screw a shower head thing on the back so put taller items in. The main thing I use it like that for is doing all my bins every few weeks.
And YY to oven shelves and dishwasher racks/cutlery drainers -and extraction grids. And all the bits off the top of the hob (but someone told me their cast iron pan supports went rusty doing that - but mine (also cast iron) are fine). And washing up brushes.
And plastic toys...and bath toys - and birthday cake candle holders (in a net)
I do think you need to remember if you are sticking odd things in though that not all programs on dishwashers get hot enough to sterilise things

I remember the toilet brush on a thread - I couldn't do that ...even if I knew the program did get hot enough (I have a silicone brush one now which is much better than bristles -that I could contemplate more - but still NO...)

Clg199 · 28/05/2017 17:27

Plastic cyclone big from my Dyson. Once a year or so and it works like new!

BusyBee2017 · 28/05/2017 23:13

Yes tondelay I am having the same approach that anything that done survive will get replaced. Except for my kitchen knives I won't put them in hahaha they are not dishwasher safer and cost a bomb haha
