Why isn't two washing machines a "thing" like two dishwashers is becoming?

TimTamTerrier See that makes sense to me. Why would you want all the muddy clothes being dragged through the house.

TimTamTerrier · 16/01/2017 22:07

I don't think I'll ever need two dishwashers, but the last time I hosted Christmas I wished for a Christmas fridge. I wanted to keep the Christmas stuff separate from the everyday stuff, partly to stop the DC from eating all the Christmas food early but mostly so that I could easily reach the everyday food.

dollybird · 16/01/2017 22:08

sometimes we could do with a third fridge Blush

dementedma · 16/01/2017 22:10

9 loads of washing in a day??? I don't have that much stuff, even if I had the time or energy.

How did I get to be 53 and raise 3 kids with no dishwasher, no tumble drier and one washing machine??

Mouthfulofquiz · 16/01/2017 22:11

Pikmin - I have one of those pulleymaids in the high ceiling of the utility, its bloody brilliant for anything you need to dry flat in particular.

I also have two fridges, would love two dishwashers and would die for two ovens!

TimTamTerrier · 16/01/2017 22:13

My brother (single man, living on his own) has two fridges. One is a swish glass-fronted wine and beer fridge, and the other is a big, brushed steel, American style fridge freezer which stores only condiments. I did ask him if he has a third fridge for food but apparently he only buys enough food for a day or two at a time and he eats out quite a bit too.

I'm thinking of building a second house in my garden, so I can have a second bed, a second shower and a second DH.

WitchSharkadder · 16/01/2017 22:15

I don't have a dishwasher at all but donhave 2 washing machines Grin

It's because we're a family of 6 and DS1 goes through several lots of clothing and needs his bedding changing daily due to SN though, plus a toilet training toddler.

whothefuckhas5children · 16/01/2017 22:16

chatnanny they're all still little - under 10s. Be a while until we're rattling around (although if we stay in this smallish house then we'll never rattle Wink)

GrinGrinGrin Love this...

MyWhatICallNameChange · 16/01/2017 22:17

There's 7 of us. We have a dishwasher and a washing machine each. Wink

I doubt I'd catch up with the washing even if I had 2 washing machines, that would mean getting up off my lazy arse and doing more housework. I can't be arsed with that.

We usually do 2 loads of dishwashing a day, I don't think we need another dishwasher for that. It's not my job anyway, I have children for that. Grin

CiderwithBuda · 16/01/2017 22:17

I have two washing machines but only one dishwasher. I did read about two dishwashers when we were doing our house renovation but didn't see the point. We have a second washing machine for the dogs towels and bed covers etc. Two very hairy moulty labs. That washing machine is in the boiler room with a pulley for hanging washing, a clothes horse and a thing that pulls out from the wall to hang smaller stuff on.

If I had space upstairs I'd have the laundry room upstairs. That makes so much sense to me.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 16/01/2017 22:17

i keep looking out for a second washer...but as time has gone on and the children have flown the nest (almost) it'd only get used for the dog blankets.

still an idea though!

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/01/2017 22:18

Obviously you'd need two tumble dryers too.

You'd have empty wash baskets, not stuffed to bursting ones.

I have more than one dishwasher but that's just due to the layout of my house. Who thinks it's a good idea to keep clean plates in a dishwasher ?! Why not unload it into a cupboard?! I'm so perplexed... this is a real thing?!?!
2 washing machines would make more sense to me... one for the endless towels/bed linen and one for the clothes

AmyInTheBoonies · 16/01/2017 22:32

I know two people with two dishwashers. It's definitely a new trend. I will get two when I get a new kitchen. It'll be really useful.

I think you'd need a big family to justify two washing machines but if you have the space why not. I have a wash day so have thought I wish I could be doing a white and colour wash at the same time so I can then put them all in the dryer quickly.

HelenaGWells · 16/01/2017 22:39

We are a family of 5 and I do 1-2 washer loads a day and 1-2 dishwasher loads. Most days it's 1 of each.

I can't understand why it would be necessary. I load the dishwasher and put it on whilst full then when it's done I unload it ready to put the next lot of dirty stuff in. Most days it goes on after tea and gets emptied first thing as kids have breakfast and I do lunches. On weekends it goes on after dinner as well.

WatchingFromTheWings · 16/01/2017 22:50

I'd love to have 2 washing machines!! I can quite often do 6 washloads a day, more if I do all the beds on the same day.

KickAssAngel · 16/01/2017 22:59

my uncle has 2 dishwashers. but they're each a big drawer size. One can be running, while the other one stacks up. They both get emptied, but usually one is running/about to run, and the other has more being put in.

WiltingTulip · 16/01/2017 23:07

Lots of people in Aus have the 2 dishwasher "drawers" which means you're basically doing a half load of dishes- good for small families or my parents who still insist on hand washing most stuff!

My family is big enough that I have one dishwasher and washing machine / dryer, filled and used daily (although my washing machine is probably bigger than most people's).

trixymalixy · 16/01/2017 23:11

2 dishwashers?! Who has the room?!

I do loads of washing, but rather than have two washing machines I just have one huge 11kg one so you can fit masses in. My tumble dryer is big too, 9kg. They both just take up a Normal washer sized space though.

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 16/01/2017 23:12

I have two washing machines and two dishwashers. They do get lots of use when we have visitors.

Pallisers · 16/01/2017 23:17

We are renting a house at the moment while our own is being renovated. It has 2 washers and 2 dryers. It is a 3 story over basement house so one set is on the third floor and the other in the basement. I used the third floor one to do the regular laundry and the kids/dh use the basement one to do laundry from sports. It actually works quite well. The house has a separate full US style fridge in the basement too and I love having it.

imip · 16/01/2017 23:24

I have 4 dcs 10 and under, dh and I. One dishwasher, one washing machine (7kg). We manage fine. I do 3 dishwasher loads per day (4dc packed lunch I'm a sahm and dh works from home. Thing is, when I've stacked the dishwasher, I still have more dishes in the sink! I could see the benefit of another slimline dishwasher or a drawer dishwasher.

I can cope with the washing machine. 1-3 loads a day. More if I do sheets and towels, but I'm a bit of a slattern. We have one Lakeland heated rail, one more would be helpful.

We don't have a huge fridge, but we may get 2xsmaller Ocado deliveries to manage this.

2 x is only something I've ever seen on larger family forums.

5BlueHydrangea · 16/01/2017 23:27

Two washing machines may be great but you still have to put it all away!!
