Why isn't two washing machines a "thing" like two dishwashers is becoming?

But when you wash up in a sink you still have to collect everything and put it away? And you wouldn't plunge a plate with scraps into a sink full of water either.

I don't really understand when people go on about the faff of dishwashers, when it's literally exactly the same faff which is required when you wash up except you don't have to actually do the washing part!

Especially so on a thread which is about having two... meaning you don't have to empty it EVER, and filling is no big deal because you do it as you go.

If you are referring to people who just leave their shit piled up on the counter instead of putting it directly into the ready-and-waiting dishwasher though, YANBU that is a pain but it's the people who do this who need to be reeducated.

Crumbs1 · 16/01/2017 21:20

I'm going to confess to,two washing machines. Went with large family and two teams rugby kit to wash. Can't wash a minimum of seven lots of bedding each week without two machines.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/01/2017 21:21

If you had two washing machines you'd never have a back log.

I've never seen the point of two dw but I've heard it spoken of on here.

In 40 years people will tell their kids "I only had one washing machine and I managed just fine".

I can see the point if the washing machine breaks down. When ours does we're stuffed.
apparently if the dishwasher breaks down there's this trick you can do with the sink and the tap.

Pikmin · 16/01/2017 21:26

My lottery fantasy house would have a washing machine in the utility but a tough washer, a dryer, and one of those dryers that hang from the ceiling with a pulley in the outbuilding type thing (and a deep freeze) -not that I've thought about it much 😁 😶

StealthPolarBear · 16/01/2017 21:27

Mine would have a fully staffed laundrette that I never needed to enter. And a restaurant.

MakeItStopNeville · 16/01/2017 21:29

I have 2 washers and 2 driers. It was just by chance though as we brought ours from the last house and the people we bought this house from left theirs. I'd not go back though now. 4 kids leaves me more than enough laundry to warrant it.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/01/2017 21:29

We have a slimline dishwasher and it's not useless. It's usually on at least once a day. Does everything we need. Two seems OTT unless you have an enormous family or run a cafe.

TimTamTerrier · 16/01/2017 21:30

Blush I'm considering having two washing machines. I'm building a house and I'm going to have the laundry room upstairs (because that's where all the laundry is). I'm also going to have a room downstairs that is sort of a utility room. The back door will open into it so that when the DC come back from sports covered in mud they can go straight in there and not trek it through the house. All the sports equipment will be in there, and a loo and a big sink for washing their football boots. I'm considering putting a cheap washing machine in there too to wash the kitchen stuff and their sports kits.

I only have one dishwasher, but the crockery and cutlery drawers are right beside the dishwasher so it takes seconds for my au pair to empty it.

whothefuckhas5children · 16/01/2017 21:30

3 dishwashers in kitchen, 2 washing machines and two dishwashers in kitchen - all raised ups so that I don't have to bend down to empty or fill them.

2 x 6' freezers and 2x 6' fridges - one in kitchen and one in utility room.

And yes pimkin one of the pulley things for drying (or 2!)

YesThisIsMe · 16/01/2017 21:32

So now I'm wondering whether there are kosher families with four dishwasher. I guess there might be, especially if they have twin kitchens.

AutoFillContact65 · 16/01/2017 21:32

I would love 2 dishwashers but am fine with just one washing machine. I just got 2 ovens and love it.

whothefuckhas5children · 16/01/2017 21:32

stealth has the answer!!

chatnanny · 16/01/2017 21:34

We have 2 dishwashers. One was in the old kitchen when we bought the house, this became the utility room with an extra dishwasher. I don't use it much but it really came into its own at Christmas when we were 14 people for the best part of a week. If I'd had room I'd have loved 2 washing machines when my 5 children were small. A friend had one of those big Maytag washing machines which took 20lb I think but we didn't have the room.

chatnanny · 16/01/2017 21:36

Whyowhy when everyone is home the dishwasher needs to go on after every meal. Having 2 means both can go on during the cheap electricity time.

PinkSwimGoggles · 16/01/2017 21:38

I thought the 2 dishwashers is a jewish/kosher thing?
2 washing mashines would only make sense if you are running a hotel and have to do more than a usual household amount of laundry.

chatnanny · 16/01/2017 21:39

Whothefuckhas5chikdren yup I've got the pulley drier too.... I don't know how old yours are but when they're grown up it's sublime or ridiculous, either we are rattling around or the house is bursting with more each year as the DC start breeding.

PinkSwimGoggles · 16/01/2017 21:40

though friends who are farmers have 2 washers, one for mucky stable stuff and one for normal laundry.

PickAChew · 16/01/2017 21:41

Two dishwashers? You live in a funny old world if that's normal to you. Most of us plebs with houses under 1000 sq ft (which is the vast majority of housing stock in this country) barely have room for 1.

youngestisapsycho · 16/01/2017 21:43

My DH is working in the large house of a multi millionaire. He has just finished the utility room that has 4 washing machines and 4 tumble driers... all the beds are changed every 2 days apparently, and the 'help' have clean uniforms every day! It's a different world.....

llangennith · 16/01/2017 21:45

Family is all grown up now but if I still had the five of us at home I'd definitely have two washing machines and maybe consider two dishwashers.

Stilitzvert · 16/01/2017 21:50

The only people I have ever met with 2 dishwashers are Jewish people who keep kosher and have one dishwasher for meat dishes and the other for dairy

SellFridges · 16/01/2017 22:01

I'm totally getting two dishwashers when we do a new kitchen. It makes total sense to me and it's not like they're expensive anymore. DH even agreed!

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 16/01/2017 22:01

I do a heck of a lot of wash loads, one every day sometimes two a day. After a trip away (frequently) I can do upwards of 9 in a day.

Even I don't want 2 washers, utterly ridiculous.

Did want 2 dishwashers but got outvoted so opted for pan drawers for my plates, result.

dollybird · 16/01/2017 22:06

if I had two washing machines I'd never find anywhere to hang it all! I do quite often do two loads a day but spread out so some of the first load is dry when I hang the second. I don't have a tumble drier (expensive to run). We do have two fridge freezers in the house and a small chest freezer in the garage though which are usually all full Shock (family of 4)
