My house/Zoflora

1000 replies

TheLionQueen · 20/10/2016 11:28

Posting here for traffic.
My house is a bit horrid. I have pets and a messy DH (who does get on board when I have a proper 'spruce' but doesn't notice the daily grime). I can keep on top of genuine rubbish but clutter builds easily. I know nobody can sort this out for me and I am working on it.
What bothers me most is smell. Although it's clean ish, it doesn't smell fresh. I do open windows for a bit every day.
I bought some miracle potion Zoflora yesterday and already mop the floors with it. I want to know what I can do with it as almost like a reed diffuser/air freshener?
I don't put the heating on much (have a log burner) so don't think putting it on radiators would work. I do hoover relatively regularly so can try the cotton wool trick. Anything else I could try? Is it really safe to spray on curtains? Any other tips for a pet household for smell? Thanks in advance!

scrivette I said in an earlier post that a strong concentrate of spray makes me wheeze. Wondered why no one had replied to my question...bit of a ZoFlo echo chamber in here eh?! Hmm

SirChenjin · 27/10/2016 18:46

You need to toughen up your lungs - I prescribe 20 John Players a day

MaQueen · 27/10/2016 18:57

I think you'll find 20 Capstan Full Strength fags a better option (my Grandma smoked these, and she was as 'ard as a coffin nail...)

I saw this thread and was inspired to buy some Zoflora.

Can ask a question? When you say soak a cotton wool ball in it, to pop in the vacuum, Do you dilute or use concentrated?

Ta muchly.

BakeOff I use it neat but my Hoover absolutely stinks at the minute. I accidentally hoovered some of the kids half eaten cucumber sticks and the moisture has made the filter damp and disgusting.

How can I clean the filter of a Henry? The plastic ring doesn't detach from the material.. would it survive the washing machine?

Manumission · 27/10/2016 19:45

I'd immerse it in a warm solution of something like vanish (biological action), rub it well with a cloth, then rinse and dry it.

Then dab some neat zoflo on afterwards.

BakeOffBiscuits · 27/10/2016 19:45

Thanks Alice, can't wait to give it a try!

CugglesandTissesMakeItBetter · 27/10/2016 19:46

I love the fresh linen and have just today bought a GIANT 500ml bottle of the stuff for a bargainous £4 in Poundworld Grin

Just seen that Poppy managed to get deleted on a Zoflora thread?

That is hardcore. Grin

MrTCakes · 27/10/2016 19:58

Twilight Garden is my current favourite by the way. Alright Nugget, rub it in why don't you! I ventured into a huge B&M today but no joy.

Gatekeeper · 27/10/2016 19:58

I've hoyed mine in the bin. I really don't get the love.

My name is Raven and I'm a zo-flo lover. I've cracked open the winter morning, though it doesn't match with my autumnal Halloween decs. A pumpkin spice one would be ideal Smile

I need to confess something though.. I dilute in a spray bottle and spray liberally, hard surfaces, sofas and throws, everywhere, yet the smell is gone almost instantly! Where am I going wrong? Is my mixture too weak ( it's the scientific ratio of a lot of water plus a gin sized slug of zo-flo)

Linen and hyacinth are my favs, need to try the orange and cranberry one though.

Manumission · 27/10/2016 20:29

Send if you want to make proper air freshener, adding some actual Gin or vodka in to the mix will help fix the smell.

Of course, then you'd have to be slightly more careful about exactly where you sprayed it. And you might consider it a waste of good gin.

SendARavenToRiverRun · 27/10/2016 20:39

Oh Lordy, what a thought, what a waste of gin! I'll stick to the zoflora!

JasperDamerel · 27/10/2016 21:14

I'm also failing to love the zoflo. I bought some, I used it, I preferred my Method cleaning stuff which smells lovely.

Mozfan1 · 27/10/2016 21:17

She got deleted? Good, that comment she made was too far.

I've just been judged for keeping watered down zoflo in my fridge for freshness. Judgy cunts on this site.

Thingamajiggy · 27/10/2016 21:30

I cannot believe how many people are buying into this bullshit that your whole house needs DISINFECTING! Over-use of these things is contributing to antibiotic resistant bugs and causing kids to develop allergies in increasing numbers. Why do you think every surface needs to be free of bacteria? It doesn't! Cleaning is enough, you don't need to sterilise things unless you're planning to perform surgery in your kitchen.
Meanwhile, these chemicals themselves are toxic in their own right. There really is no need to soak your house in horrible synthetic chemicals
If you want to sterise something use a steamer or wipe a bit of pure thin bleach over it.

MaQueen · 27/10/2016 21:33

And...?

Mozfan1 · 27/10/2016 21:34

LOL.

TheLionQueen · 27/10/2016 21:40

Thing I do see what you're saying but I think some most of us just use it in place of regular cleaning products, for regular cleaning rather than trying to sterilise everything.
So for example where I might normally mop the floor with flash/bleach, I use Zoflora instead as it does the job. Or where I might spray the worktop with antibacterial spray (hygienic and good practice, not obsessively sterilising) I use Zoflora solution.
I like that I don't have to worry about getting it on my clothes and it does smell nice.
Haters gonna hate..

Big fan of this thread.

Thank you to the poster who at some point recommended leaving some diluted solution in the kitchen sink... makes the kitchen smell wonderful.

Kidnapped · 27/10/2016 22:04

Only the comment was deleted, Moz. She's not been banned from Mumsnet or anything.

For those who don't really get this thread, I will spell it out to you:

This thread is not entirely serious. It is all sorts of foolishness, poking fun at ourselves for lolz, as well as practical tips for mundane tasks. A lighthearted diversion in an uncertain world.

That's okay isn't it?
