how do you manage to easily sort the clothes to ensure they don't get mixed up. We're starting to get issues in this house (with just 2 DS's - and another on the way!!!!) with things getting mixed up particularly socks and pants........do you buy completely different colours/styles for each child/OH or what????

havent quite got that one sorted here yet, every now and then i put the wrong pants in the wrong draw, mind it is quite funny want dh while he is half asleep trying to put on a pair of pants that says 10/11.

I try to keep the washing separate- wash baskets in each bedroom and do separate loads but it's not too much of a problem at the moment as the size difference is still pretty obvious!

For DS1 and DH I have recently instigated a new policy regarding socks: DS1 has grey socks and DH has black. Their feet are just too similar now and no one was willing to spend the time it took to match them up. Underwear is OK because DS1 is still much slimmer hipped than DH!

Tend to buy my DSs socks/pants in sets, so easy to remember who has which character/style. Will have a problem next year with school uniform though, all those plain grey socks.
DH socks are my pet peeve, a big pile of black and grey and he's not keen on those ones with the coloured toe/heel, which would help.

itsmeNDP · 30/01/2007 10:22

Obv DH's pants and socks are considerably bigger than the DS's undies, so that isn't an issue.

My DS's are both teenagers now and wear the same size socks and pants so it doesn't matter either, so long as each of them have an equal number of socks and pants in their drawers.

Basically I have nothing helpful to add here, don't know why I bothered posting

Me, DH and DS1 have a communal sock bag - DS2s feet are small enough for it to be obvious which ones are his. I'm not sure what I'll do with pants, but I think we've got a while to go before DH and DS1 are the same size

Clothes - well, I just know who has what clothes, if I'm not sure I'll check the size label.

Clothes wise, my boys have very different styles (they are 13 & 14.5) so I know which items are which.

Tortington · 30/01/2007 10:26

first up best dressed in this house.

ds's are 3 years apart. that matters not in the socks stakes - buy all one colour.

in the undies stakes it does - until they get to teenagers then everyone fights for clean pair in the AM.

they know where the washer is!

MegaLegs · 30/01/2007 10:27

Have DH and 4 DSs. My boys are still quite little but I have occasionally put a pair of DS1's boxers in Dh' pants drawer.

Three in pants all have diff coloured boxers, and ds1 and ds2 share school socks.

I spend my life washing, folding, putting away, I 'm going to start training them up to put there own stuff away soon.

Oati · 30/01/2007 10:28

I buy different coulours/brands of pants and socks for my 2 boys. For school socks I buy black or grey with a trim or coloured heel etc so it's still easy to sort out

what is really bugging me at the moment is sorting out the white polos that they both wear - I always have to check theh labels hidden down the side seam

zubb · 30/01/2007 10:28

Not an issue with dh's stuff at the moment as ds1, 2 and 3 are all small, but between the 3 of them I often get clothes muddled up, and it's only after I put them on one of them that I realise that the jeans / trousers aren't their's!
With socks and pants I buy different sets for them so that I have a chance to tell them apart.

Birthdaybeetroot · 30/01/2007 10:29

I have a unit from Ikea with 6 trays in it. I sort straight from the tumble dryer into trays. Usually get it right!! Kids and dh then put their own clothes away. Socks are in one big basket and everyone shares

Sherbert37 · 30/01/2007 10:29

Yes totally different underwear for each boy - DS1 has cotton boxers, DS2 stretchy ones. DS1 wears white socks to school and DS2 wears black. DH's are the manky ones...
