My loo seat has gone yellow, can I get it white again?

Just that, really. It looks fine when closed, but when it's up you can see that the edge which sits on the pan has yellowed. I am thinking that'll be wee (small children).

Ordinary Flash isn't touching it. What else is worth trying?

Only cleaner i use is Dettol Anti Bacterial Surface Cleaner. It's a multi purpose cleaner and can be used for cleaning toilet stains I am quiet surprised Flash didn't get rid of it. How long has the stain been there for?

You can get new toilet seats for £5-£10.

Harpic White and Shine bleach (contains baking soda, which may or may not have made the difference)

It came as a replacement item in an online shop and was the only thing I found so far that actually works!

I poured a bit on to soak, cleaned the rest of the bathroom and returned to it not expecting it to have done anything and voila - wee stains gone! Converted buyer!

I always remember my dm taking our loo seat off and putting it in the bath with some bleach and water - I never thought about why but maybe it was the same thing? 2 younger brothers in the house toilet training at the same time.

I took mine off and stood them in a big bucket then squirted bleach on them. The stains remained but they now have a lovely Matt drip pattern on the glossy finish! Will try the Harpic clash recommends.

Biotex made into a runny paste and smeared on gets most things white again but I agree with Bike, the biotex would cost you £2 and if it doesn't work you could be 1/4 towards a new one.

If you happen to have a steam cleaner that would work.

if its the wooden style with like the white shiny finish. cleaning products do discolour them especially those with bleach in. I bought two new porcelain ones on Tuesday because of that.

I haven't particularly noticed it before, loo seats wiped all over a few times a week and the seat is about 4 years old. It's right on the thin inner edge, which doesn't seem to have the same smooth finish as the other surfaces.

A magic eraser sponge might do it

Seat is plastic, BTW.

I think bleach and some cleaning products can discolour them. Mine has gone all around the rim and I think it is the way my old cleaner, who used to bleach everything to within an inch of its life, used to wipe it. A friend tells me hydrogen peroxide and a magic sponge worked on hers but I haven't tried it yet

Soak toilet paper in bleach.

Cover yellow bits in bleach your paper, leave for as long as you can, overnight perhaps

wipe off bleach and flush the toilet paper

Ok. I don't usually clean with bleach (use bleach down loo pan only) so it's probably not that, don't think DH would ever clean a loo use bleach on the seat, and sadly we don't have a cleaner.

So, am going to try Magic Sponge first, then Biotex next.

And the seat is a soft closing one so a bit more pricey and would like to salvage if I can!

I replace mine every so often. They never quite fit right though.

Mine's from Wickes on a B&Q loo, so it mist be pretty standard TBH.

If it was the square Vitra loo upstairs I'd be much more annoyed

I used the steam cleaner on mine, that shifted the stains. My seat was coloured so couldn't change it until we could afford new bathroom.

I think we have a wallpaper steamer in the garage, not sure what tools we have with it.

Try white toothpaste smear it on leave it for 30 mins and wipe off

I have the same problem with my DSs and their bathroom. I used Astonish on it yesterday and that was the first time it has ever come off.

Cillit Bang works a treat, really whitens your toilet seat!

Washing powder

Take the seat off, turn it upside down in the bath, dowse it with the shower spray and sprinkle washing powder on it. Give it a scrub with a scourer then sprinkle more washing powder on it so that it becomes a paste. Keep repeating. It's the only thing that got our toilet seat white.

What about the stuff used to clean plastic out door furniture?
