Ours has broken down (again, I might add) It belongs to our landlord, but he's not the quickest at getting repairs done (like the time we went without hot water for 7 weeks)

Anyway, the washing that's currently in the machine is sitting in a pool of water. The programme dial isn't moving either. We got it fixed before xmas and there was someting wrong with the timer (whaetever that means)

I'd ideally like to have a go at sorting it before we go to the landlord, otherwise we'll be waiting until Xmas 2070 to get it fixed. It's kind of importnant as I have 2 children in washable nappies.

Is the dial not moving at all, or can you turn it to rinse/spin/drain?

MegaLegs · 12/01/2007 11:31

What make is it? Mine has a draining hose at the bottom front. You have to remove a small panel at the front of the machine to get to it. There is also a place to access the pump. Often a machine won't drain if a coin or some other obkect is stuck in the pump

IntergalacticWalrus · 12/01/2007 11:31

you can trn it, but when the wash is in the middle of a cycle, it doesn't move. The drum turns round a few times and then it stops and the washing is left in some mangy water.

I tired draining it, but I nearly flooded the effing kitchen. I need to be able to move the washing mashine and lifit it up in order to get a bucket under it so I can drain it. I'm not the strongest person

So the dial is stuck mid-wash and now can't be turned.
Follow MegaLegs' instructions unless you are very impatient, like me, and switch the bugger off till you can open the door, and have a lot of towels and a big basin at the ready.

WanderingTrolley · 12/01/2007 11:36

oops, cross posts.
Call landlord repeatedly and demand repair man asap. Tell landlord you think the machine is leaking onto HIS floor.

MegaLegs · 12/01/2007 11:36

Where does the water come out when you drain it? Can you stop and start the flow? Have you got a shallow tray (like an oven tray) you could use, empty, use, empty etc?

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 12/01/2007 11:39

Lower the end of the drain hose into a washing up bowl. Suck on it - sorry - to start it off and it will drain. If the bucket gets full lift the hose up and it'll stop draining. Empty bucket and repeat.

LIZS · 12/01/2007 11:43

Have you got the Rinse Hold button on ? If so take it off and got to the spin and /or drain progarmme.

JanH · 12/01/2007 11:44

What saggar said, but you won't need to suck it as long as you can get the end of the hose lower than the level of the water, it will just run out then. A roasting tin/washing up bowl should do it - is there anyone there who can provide relay emptying support, so you can keep the hose low and keep the water flowing?

IntergalacticWalrus · 12/01/2007 11:46

Oh God, just tried to empty the thingy at the fromt. I'm soaked. The floor is soaked.

Where the f is the drian hose???? [stupid bleeder emoticon]

I just want to cry. This is a looooong line in things going wronmg in this stupid fucking poxy house.

The drain hose will be connected under your sink probably. Grey thingy hooked into a pipe or pushed on the end.

Sounds like there won't be much water left in now though lol!

IntergalacticWalrus · 12/01/2007 11:50

I thought that too saggers, but it just kept on bloody coming.

Throw newspapers/mop etc at floor.
Lob wet washing into bath. Deal with that later.
Dry kitchen floor and self.
Half fill bath with cold water and rinse off clothes. Wring as best you can and hang to dry over bath.
Have cup of tea and a chocolate biscuit.
Ring landlord and resist using phrases such as "Right then you c*ck brained @rse wit."
Plan trips to launderette.

Flossam · 12/01/2007 11:54

Oh dear IGW. Its all pants isn't it? You still planning on upping sticks? Please don't swear at me, but nearest laundry is....? As you have said your landlord is shite.

JanH · 12/01/2007 11:54

Ohhh - sorry, IW, if it's between units the hose is probably behind the machine and as you said, it's too heavy to move with all the water

There isn't a removable panel at the bottom at the front, is there? Mine has one with a screw either end and inside is a little drain hose.

IntergalacticWalrus · 12/01/2007 11:59

I've had a look Jan, but it's just a hole, and as it's right at the bottom af the machine, it's just adding to the general flooding-ness.

And yes, floss we'll be moving out of here as soon as.

I'll get DP to ring the landlord. He's better at calling him names than me.
