Hand-held, rechargeable vacuum cleaners - any recommendations? Fallen out of love with our Dyson

We've had a stormy relationship with our little Dyson for a few years - the charging station is a bit flimsy, the batter failed and has been replaced to the tune of £80, and after using it again for a while, it has now died.

I am not very sad

Is there anything better/more reliable out there?
We are just wanting to use it for occasional use, crumbs in hard to reach corners, bits of (short) dog hair behind the door - you know, the kind of cleaning that does not warrant getting the big hoover out.

Sorry I can't answer your question but would not recommend the GTech Multi ! No suction does not even pick up pieces of fluff, looks like I haven't bothered to vacuum !
The customer service was really bad too! Told me to just buy the new and improved version despite spending £150 on something not fit for purpose. They were so unhelpful

I have been debating buying the small handheld battery charged Dyson but opinions like yours put me off!

Please someone recommend something good before I waste 150 pounds and buy the Dyson anyway

It's brilliant. I love the hose and the flexibility that gives you. Have no complaints ts at all.

I used to have one similar to the link you showed. I found that the air created by the fan tended to blow away and scatter everything I was trying to suck up

The black and decker with the hose avoids that completely. I'd highly recommend it.

Yes you unclipped the hose bit. Also means you can get into little crooks and crannies or reach high up.

I had bought a robot vacuum cleaner thinking this would mean it could 'tour' the house at night and we'd come down to a clean floor. But when I found myself sweeping bits in front of it to 'help' it pick up I knew it was no good. So I've returned that and bought instead the AEG cordless vac, so far so very good. I also has the little hand held one stored in it so the best of both worlds. Very happy with it so far, although to be fair I've only had it a week.

I like the look of that machine Ernest. It would probably suit me better that the Dyson. I'm going to camel track it....

What does camel track it mean? It is good though. i never thought I'd get another hand held (had a couple of cheap, traditional shapes ones on the past, but this is seriously good)

Ernest - you can track the price of goods sold on Amazon using Camel Camel Camel and it will alert you if the price drops. It's also good for seeing the highest/lowest prices ever tracked.

Ooh this thread is just what I need. I'm in the market for a mini vac to do the stairs and kitchen. Will have a look at the Black and Decker one now, thanks.

Got the Bosch Athlet cordless for upstairs and use a Dyson cordless downstairs. I've got a tripping problem with corded vacs.
The Bosch has great suction and is OK on carrots & hard floors. The downsides are that its really awkward with handheld accessories ( so I don't bother) and it's a horror to empty and clean. The filter needs washing regularly so you get all sorts of dust up your nose extracting and washing it.
The Dyson is much more useful and so much easier to use & empty, despite the shorter battery life.

If that helps. It isn't small like the Dyson but it's very light, turns easily, and charges fairly quickly. We've never vacuumed as much

Just updating to say that the Black and Decker lithium handheld vacuum is at lowest price according to CCC and I've just bought it!
