BuJo Wankers 2 - declutter your mind!

Woo hoo! It's the second Bullet Journal thread! For the benefit of newbies - Bullet Journal is a brilliant way to organise your whole life in a lovely notebook. Perfect for anyone who has tried every app and every scheduling system but just can't seem to get on top of things. Also perfect for lovers of beautiful stationery and especially for people who like lists!

Sooo - get out your fineliners and your washi tape! Stroke your Leuchtturms! And get all that stuff that's whizzing round in your head out onto paper instead!

My LT arrived Wednesday and I had a fun evening starting it. It's a lovely notebook.

I feel less anxious already because the slightest thing to remember is written down and I'm motivated to cross things off so do them quicker.

Either that or I do things immediately so I don't need to write them down.

whatsonyourplate · 12/03/2016 09:59

A Leuchtturm rainbow sounds lovely! But do you think you'll refer back to the old ones at all? Just with my declutteting head on it seems like keeping stuff unnecessarily, but I suppose if it gives you joy...

mercifulTehlu · 12/03/2016 10:28

I rather think it will give me joy! Books are one thing I have quite a lot of anyway. We do have the occasional cull, but fortunately we have a lot of shelf space. Anyway, I think I may well refer back to the old ones.

Marie Kondo would probably be horrified... You are meant to thank it, say goodbye and chuck it in the recycling aren't you?

mercifulTehlu · 12/03/2016 13:32

Ah but having shelves full of books brings me joy, so according to her own philosophy she wouldn't have a leg to stand on if she were horrified!

I do like even the most bonkers of her ideas - the whimsical notions about emptying your handbag every time you get home at the end of the day and thanking it for a job well done, and greeting your house out loud when you come in are particularly pleasingly crackers.Grin

The funny thing is, the more my house is beginning to look less like a tip, the more I can appreciate the idea of saying hello to it when I walk in. And actually the handbag thing is a revelation. I no longer rush around frantically searching different handbags for things. I haven't actually thanked them though. I hope they aren't offended .

Hello BuJo wankers! I have a question which has probably already been answered, but I can't find it amongst all the posts in the two threads. I have already been BuJoing for 6 weeks or so, but I am looking to move into a nicer notebook. I have seen the Leuchtturm notebooks mentioned as being good, but I don't know which size or calendar layout which work best. Does anyone have any recommendations?

mercifulTehlu · 12/03/2016 15:53

Couldn't tell you, as I don't have one Envy Wink

I like my A5 dotted.

Small enough for my handbag, big enough to properly write in.

I'm using dotted for the first time ever and so far I like it. Easy to do tables (eg trackers) and don't show up too much like squares (I have squared at work and hate it)

I'm another fan of the A5 dotted notebook. Big enough to write in, but small enough to fit in a bag. Also, love the dots as they keep things neat but are unobtrusive.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 13/03/2016 12:53

Ok, so it sounds like dots are the way forward. Thank you!

Greymalkin · 13/03/2016 15:47

What Mookbark said - the dotted LTs keep things very neat, lend themselves nicely to charts and tables but the dots themselves are quite subtle and don't leap out at you.

mercifulTehlu · 13/03/2016 17:03

Oh man - I've just signed up to Instagram. A whole new source of amazing BuJo pictures!

Good morning fellow BuJo-ers.

Well, it finally seems to have clicked after some very helpful posts on here from merciful and unlucky83 last week. After a pub lunch/BuJo planning meeting with DH on Friday, we got our bedroom/dumping ground more or less tidy and hit IKEA to plan new wardrobes/new bed for DD etc once we have the decorating done - very motivating.

I ticked mowing the lawn and (slightly) tidying the garden off my list, and we also cleaned out the car.

But even better, I sat down and made a list of gift vouchers and checked their expiry dates and how much was left on them. As a result, I used one for a manicure on Saturday which otherwise would have expired that day (gave me a 45 minute chill out) and also spent a couple of others nearing their end date, and on stuff I actually need, which is a result.

So the house and garden are looking a bit better and I have a decent set of nails. Win-win really.

Also I didn't forget to give DD her library card this morning for her school library visit thanks to my daily log.

So I think the life-changing magic BuJo-ing has kicked in for me at last.

(Now I just need to head to the Kondo threads for the house-clearing magic, as merciful suggested).

I'm enjoying my BuJo but I'm getting frustrated cos I keep thinking of more things to do, but none of them can be ticked off just yet...

Vistaverde · 14/03/2016 14:38

Over a month in and I like my BuJo more than ever. When I have tried apps etc in the past my enthusiasm has usually waned by this point so am very happy. I like the daily ritual of reviewing my to do list and setting up my one for the following day.

I made the most of the good weather yesterday and spent a lot of time sorting out the garden and now have a garden megalist as a result. I have never been organised enough to write a list of what needs to be done in the garden just done things on an adhoc basis. Really hopefully that this will help me to feel control of the garden this year as I am starting to do with the house.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 14/03/2016 16:17

I'm finding this weekly layout really useful, but am wishing my monthly habit tracker was more prominent as things often slip my mind. Might copy it out and put it on the wall a la a child's star chart Grin.

BuJo Wankers 2 - declutter your mind!
mercifulTehlu · 14/03/2016 17:42

Ooh I like your banner-style headings and fancy-schmancy writing, Bendy!

I have now fully embraced the week per double page layout with a tick-list section of weekly housework tasks at the bottom of each week. I am still utterly hopeless at my tracker things though. I do them for the first few days of the month, then forget. I think I need them on my weekly spread instead.

Frozen - glad the posts have been helpful and that the BuJo is really beginning to work for you!

Today I was fortunate enough to be covering a lesson with an unusually angelic class (not my subject, I was just supervising them) and managed to do a bit of BuJo-ing while they were silently getting on with their work!

Kewcumber · 14/03/2016 17:56

I am a tracker failure - I have to crack other things before I can expend energy on tracking anything more than my name.

Greymalkin · 14/03/2016 18:14

Hi everyone,

I'm another who has only really been a BuJoWanker Grin for a few weeks, but I'm loving it too.

I have felt continually motivated to keep on top of day to day stuff, I love brain dumping, and my Megalist is now onto its second double page spread. Its fantastic to be able write something down and know that I don't have to remember it anymore iykwim?!

What I really love is just having one book, with everything in it, and not scraps of paper everywhere. As I am the one responsible for the running of the house and organising DC, it only has to be a system for me, which is great.

In case anyone is interested, my collections include:

  • A list of the books I'm reading for the MN 50 book challenge thread
  • A penpal tracker
  • My monthly reminder chart
  • A Music to download list
  • On pages where my pen has bled through to the other side, on the 'ruined' side, I have made pretty collages out of magazine clippings
mercifulTehlu · 14/03/2016 19:44

Yy to the 'not having to remember ' - it's very liberating! I do slightly worry that my memory will die from lack of use!

TeaPleaseLousie

I use this narrow shelf from Ikea as my organisation station in my hall.

On it I have tubs to hold :-
: Office things (selatape, ruler, stamps)
: Brushes and hair ties for school...plus folding stool
: Library books
: School bags
: Slippers
: School shoes
: Seasonal tub (currently holds gloves and winter hats, will be suncream and sunhats soon)
: Plus one shelf at standing height, I use to hold my handbag and my beautiful BuJo and write in it.

I love it and it really helps me to feel calmer and slightly more organised. :)

BendydickCuminsnatch · 14/03/2016 21:50

Babies that link is broken - I NEED to see your amazing shelf!!!

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 14/03/2016 21:53

So glad someone else has already asked bendydick. I am desperate too. Sounds so wonderfully organised!
