Just packing to go on holiday... Lovely to be able to see all clothes and find what I want to pack easily.
Sadly my socks which have been happily relaxing folded in drawer have to be subjected to sock torture and balled in pairs to go in case.
I can almost hear them whimpering

NotCitrus · 26/04/2016 23:30

Have been re-doing pens, craft stuff, and kids magazines/books.
Friend is doing a sale for charity and asked if I had any childrens clothes, toys, other items, or any adult clothes or any saleable items to donate if she came to collect.
So my charity-shop bag plus 3 more large carriers of stuff were donated, plus the lovely playpen that local FB people kept claiming they wanted and never collecting. I re-did my clothes and only found 2 items that I don't want and am pretty happy with what I do have, plus found some I'd forgotten I had.

Have two carrier bags of old kids' magazines - if nursery don't want them then will dump in the recycling. Ditto various community mags - someone else will have saved them for history, right?

I also finally realised that we have more small shoeboxes than kids will ever need for homework projects (especially as ds never does them...) so now have one holding stamps and library cards and pencil sharpeners etc in the front of my stationery drawer!

Now 'just' need to get all the DIY stuff Kondoed which I can't do without MrNC but it's taking over. He has agreed that this week he will do some in his workshop and I can do some of his drawers next door (which I last did about 6 years ago). He is severely dyslexic so never gets round to reading bits of paper to tell if they are important or not, so keeps them all...

FelicityLemon · 01/05/2016 00:06

KonMari will be on TV next week its channel 507 on Sky but check times for GB. Their programmes are usually repeated once or twice each 24 hours.

storybrooke · 01/05/2016 09:47

alison hope you're having a lovely break!

citrus I use the kids shoe boxes to hold their underwear, one each for undies/knickers and one each for socks, means I can fold them properly. Blush they also fit perfectly into the wardrobe drop down ikea shoe storage that we have.

Well the last week has been busy with appointments and sleep and running the kids all over so haven't done much km'ing, but did tackle the toys yesterday which went well. Although I'm only about half way through them I have a lot to donate and a good few to sell. The kids have also been playing non stop with toys they probably forgot they had! The free space in their rooms means they have a couple of empty kallax inserts each and more space to play so I think it's going in the right direction. They were both very good at letting things go, we got things out and had a little play to decide what we didn't want anymore and they're happy knowing other children will enjoy playing them next, ds even got a few books to donate the fact they were his sisters I've ignored.

We have a big toy box stuffed full with duplo so at least half can go when I get around to building the sets back up and see what dd wants to keep. Took two minutes to clear up this morning when the kids got our entire playmobil collection out too. Massive improvement!

Our bedroom on the other hand looks like a clothes explosion so will be sorting and putting away tonight. There's just so much to keep on top of with four of us, general cleaning and maintenance alone in a busy week is enough! But it's starting to feel easier now things mostly have a permanent home!

AlisonWunderland · 02/05/2016 15:57

Thanks storybrooke

I didn't get a chance to do the garage before we left (apart from our very limited DIY stuff) because of unscheduled visit to sick relative and extra freelance work.
So every night I've been "doing" the garage in my head before going to sleep.
Is it sad that I'm looking forward to getting home from holiday to do garage for real?

stiffstink · 03/05/2016 11:21

We're back from a 3 day break. DH and I managed to share a cabin sized bag for our stuff, the kids had a bag each because of nappies etc. Footwear was in a hessian bag and the hats/scarves/gloves were in another. We still took way too much stuff!

However... DH actually impressed himself when he realised he usually takes 2 outfits PER DAY (!) and managed with half a carry on bag.

I planned my outfits so if the top got dirty but the trousers didn't, I could wear a different top the next day that would still go with the rest of the outfit, if you see what I mean. The laundry is almost done and its not even midday. Is this what a capsule wardrobe will be like? I love it!

storybrooke · 05/05/2016 22:58

alison hope your relative is recovering well. It's not sad, I've been planning in my head what we I need to do and it makes me feel more further along and calmer when I realise exactly how much is left!

stink hope you had a fab time too why am I the only one not n a break?! Haha 2 outfits per day?? Sounds familiar!

I guess I should be used to busy weeks but this has been manic. I'm never usually without my dcs unless oldest at nursery so it's a hard balance I feel. I ticked another subcategory off yesterday as I cleared out the fridge before the tesco shop came and was appalled at what I threw out. I vow that in future spinach will come frozen and I've spent the past two hours cutting and grating veg to freeze and marinating tomorrow's lamb kababs in home made yoghurt, garlic and mint sauce and preparing ingredients for the kids to make pizzas, I also batch cooked the next 3 pasta sauces from scratch so I'm counting today as a win. (I also voted, stayed with clingy dc in playgroup, rushed home to cook for kids and eat lunch I'm lying we had sandwiches and took eldest to nursery, the youngest for an adventure in the woods and picked up eldest again, finished cooking dinner then picked up dh and rearranged and tidied the entire contents of dd's room). I'm so tired! Hope you're all more productive Wine

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 05/05/2016 23:33

Sounds very productive to me storybrooke!

storybrooke · 06/05/2016 07:24

Thank you breakfast, all I got when dh got home was 'could you not have washed the dishes as you go?' Then on going upstairs 'what have you done to dd's room?!' In his defence I had her toys out and kallax on its side screwing in mini legs so it fit in the space over the skirting board I was prepared to rip out half an hour earlier Blushtook a bit of the shiny off tbh.

GrubbyWindows · 06/05/2016 08:59

Oh well, storybrook you poor old DH will just have to have his next three rounds of pasta without sauce then, won't he? Since he dislikes you having done all that blinking work to make it all!!! I think you've aced the day big time!

storybrooke · 06/05/2016 10:47

Thank you grubby yes You're so right haha! I'm feeling a little less sorry for myself now, think we've all got a wee cold and are just grouchy so kids & I nipping out soon but having a lazy day mostly. Will do some baking later on to ease the guilt of keeping them cooped up.

I can imagine no km'ing for us today. I'm so close to finishing but need to get a move on and toys gone. Donated loads but there's a few I want to sell and that will free up storage space for the last sub categories. Was amazing yesterday when we forgot the polling cards and I told dh exactly where they were instead of rooting around for 20 minutes in 8 different places. It's definitely making things easier!

storybrooke · 08/05/2016 10:53

Km'd the car yesterday, wasn't too bad but I'm a little stuck at what should be there? I have a bag in the boot with bottles of water, blankets, shoosher thing for windows and car docs. Usually have little snack items in the glove compartment for the kids too. What would I need in an emergency? What are those things that you shoot into air and it lights up, i thought they were for boats & planes but ds is adamant we need one Hmm

I'm tackling the landing cupboard tonight, as far as I'm aware it houses spare paint for each room at the very top which I'll keep there, tools same, kids memory boxes which I'll pare down at the end and around 3452 things I'm waiting to eBay. I'm putting them all up tonight and whatever doesn't go by Thursday will be winging its way to the local charity shops on Friday. Tomorrow I'll be tackling my craft stuff! Have tonnes of rolls of felt, buttons, pegs, ribbons, lots of fabric and battling (a small section I'll keep as I'm really wanting to make dd a quilt for her big girls room after the summer).

I'm starting to really lose momentum and tbh feel like giving up! Not sure what it is, made some amazing progress, house much easier to tidy and clean as everything so far has a permanent home so I should be happy? I've promised the kids an adventure day at the farm when it's all finished as although only 2&3 they've been amazing at helping when they can and really started cleaning up after themselves. Dh is even totally on board and wanting to do his stuff. Gah, I'm forcing myself on when I should be skipping to the end!

storybrooke · 08/05/2016 11:02

I say the end... I haven't been in the horribly full loft yet...

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 08/05/2016 16:11

Good that your DH is finally on board storybrooke

I suspect the loft won't be as bad as you think. If you've already done most of the rest of the house, a lot of loft stuff will already have a related category that you've already sorted, so it can be assessed against that finished category.

storybrooke · 09/05/2016 21:33

Thanks for the encouragement breakfast Flowers

NotCitrus · 10/05/2016 02:10

I'm in the middle of paperwork. Have archived two folders of charity/community group stuff and gone through 6 ring binders worth of work related reference things, which is now down to 1 ring binder and one magazine holder, though there's more to find. The archive folders are going into another wine box with sentimental papers to be shoved in the loft. Wine boxes are my and dd's passion ATM - they are small enough for me to lift even when full, are always available from the supermarket a minute's walk away, and come in various cool colours. Though as dd wants one to house every cuddly toy separately, her bedroom is starting to resemble an off-licence!

I've also got to grips with Google calendar and a new phone with long-lasting battery, so organisation is improving. Intermittently, around lots of painkillers.

storybrooke Car needs paper maps, de-icer etc, long-life snacks, and stuff you need when out like phone charger for the lighter socket, change for meters, and I've put least-good suncream there too. And blankets for kids which were just to help reduce vomit on the seats and them, but now makes them sleep instantly! And car toys. The box of tools is only for long journeys.

Actually we have got rid of 2 kitchen units today and now have a broom cupboard to store broom, mop and bucket, and the Hoover. MrNC is very proud of having built it. 11 units built, 10 to go...

Zippidydoodah · 11/05/2016 12:34

Just posting so this thread finds its way back to my "threads I'm on"!!

I'm still here, and still struggling! But still enjoying all of your stories and successes.

storybrooke · 12/05/2016 21:12

Thanks citrus, will add them to my list. How is MrNC getting on with those cupboards? Sounds like you've been busy with paperwork, I found it such a pain and we didn't have that much really!

So I didn't really manage to do the landing cupboard, I emptied it and now I'm sat in bed with two black bags to go to charity tomorrow and a box I've listed on eBay tonight, if they don't go by next week it's all going to charity. Have some toys to take tomorrow too and hoping to get all the sentimental in one place to sort next week (currently sat in the en suite). My mum is over next month from abroad so I'm desperate to finish in the next two weeks.

Plus side of tomorrow is I'm dropping the kids at their grandparents in the morning so will have all morning to be ruthless with anything I've stored. I'm at the point where I looked at the bookcase at some candlesticks I spent a month admiring before buying and wanted to throw them in the bin. So I know I'm strong enough to fight my hoarder genes. Tomorrow night MrStory is taking me out to see his friends band, exciting as they've just been signed so will probably be the last small gig they do! I was also told they'd be selling ear plugs at the door so I'm not sure what to expect Hmm anyway, my point is I've set myself a limit of 9-1.30 to sort through the mess that is now taking over and do the charity run and then I'm going to have two full hours of me time. I'm so bloody excited at that I could cry.

Hope everyone is well Flowers

NotCitrus · 13/05/2016 00:05

story - not much progress recently as he's been fixing other things (we now have a working boiler to sell as well as a fridge...). However I've just gone through the folder of instructions+guarantees and tossed ones from things we don't own or are out of date - but when you've practically built a house and every part has a 10-year guarantee that's a lot of paper!

I was dead chuffed today though as I've had a big collage of photos for ages, but a couple years ago the glass on the frame smashed. I got a new frame today (Ikea) and a glue stick, and have put it all back together. Hoped to frame a few pics I got for a present a couple years ago but they are non-standard sizes (ie not available in Ikea or other shops).

I had hoped I'd only need one card folder for managing a flat and hanging on to any post for the owners, but no - a box file is full already. Mostly thanks to British Bloody Gas.

MrsNutella · 13/05/2016 10:58

I'm just going to place mark and ask for tips... I've read the book and want to get cracking but I'm a bit lacking in motivating myself to do it on my own.... I'd like DH to do some too - so his clothes and office etc but finding the time around the kids is hard. But I can't do his stuff.
Of course it would be useful and motivating to do it at the same time.... How have other people managed this?

We have two small DC who are out at nursery for a good chunk of the day and I'm currently SAHM I might be procrastinating slightly by sorting the house instead of starting the business idea I have

Zippidydoodah · 14/05/2016 20:23

MrsNutella- nursery every day?!

Just being nosey. Would love a little time on my own to try and break the back of my house.

MrsNutella · 14/05/2016 21:33

they are nursery age (20 months and 3.3 years) I'm not in the UK but nursery is the best translation Smile they are gone from 9 am until 12/2 pm.

I have started a bit.... DS is on the scale of ADHD mad when he is home so I'm usually recovering/catching up while he is out.

Zippidydoodah · 17/05/2016 13:39

Sounds great! I reckon you need to finish kondoing before starting your business- clear house, clear mind!? I can't do anything at all in my dumping ground of a study.

Kiwirose · 25/05/2016 12:22

Feeling overwhelmed! Emptied the kitchen cupboards and now there is loads of stuff everywhere. Didn't know I owned so much. T
hink this is who I stopped Kondoing last time - seems like such a big job.

Hippywannabe · 28/05/2016 15:38

I stopped and lost the way, back on holiday again this week so might be able to pick it up again!
