I've just found out about this fab way of organising your life, thanks to a kind poster on the 'people who are efficient ' thread. I was wondering if any other MNers are Bullet Journalers? here is the website if anyone's interested.

It's only a couple of days since I started my journal, but I can already see that it's going to revolutionise my ability to be organised. I've tried loads of apps, lists etc in the past, but have never really hit on a system that worked for me. I have very high hopes of this one though (plus it involves pretty stationery Smile )!

Mine is increasingly being used as a doodle pad. I've drawn a design which if I were braver I'd have tattooed on my forearm and have also taught myself to write my name in Circular Gallifreyan

Some of my calendars and trackers are overwhelmingly twee. It's just wonderful. And the best thing... it actually works! I am returning some internet shopping today because it was in me BuJo - normally I'd have forgotten Grin

RainbowDashed · 15/02/2016 10:36

LOVE the chronograph btw. And the idea of an Indiana Jones notebook.

Kewcumber have you bought any coloured pencils yet?

I need to get myself a pencil case, my dc's have stolen anything I had.

SoupDragon · 15/02/2016 10:49

I designed my own birthday list the other day too. It's similar to the weekly planner as I don't really have a lot of birthdays to remember!

SoupDragon · 15/02/2016 10:51

I'm not sure it's working for me - whilst it has meant I've got things done I might otherwise have forgotten, I have spent an inordinate amount of time designing it and colouring in! Although that comes under "mindfulness" on my "always" planner list so it counts as a chore, right...?

RainbowDashed · 15/02/2016 11:17

Me too SoupDragon. However that is time that I haven't spent stuffing chocolate and wine down my throat. An improvement, and a definite increase in mindfulness.

Is your birthday calendar a chronograph? I can see how that might work.

SoupDragon · 15/02/2016 11:22

Very roughly, it was like this which each semi circle on one side of a double page spread.

The original has all my family names and birthdays on! and has each wedge lovingly coloured in with an appropriate colour

With. Not which.

RainbowDashed · 15/02/2016 11:47

Ooh! I like the owls too Grin

I was thinking overly complex thoughts of wheels with all the days of the month on. But that would work better, then I could bulk buy cards every month for the next month's birthdays rather than flapping at the last minute.

SoupDragon · 15/02/2016 11:50

I ink the beauty of the Great Big Book of Everything is that you can make it in whatever way suits you best rather than being squeezed into rigid format.

(Owls are on my oilcloth table cloth, an eBay purchase although I'm told you can get it in Dunelm too :))

Kewcumber · 15/02/2016 11:59

I have coloured pencils.

I have set up a meal planner (on holiday so its not being used Smile)

Left hand size is going to be a few big post it notes I normally use to write my lists which reside on the fridge and common meal post its

Right hand side is post it notes which I will keep if they are common meals and bin if they are meals that are a one off.

I will use the meal planner to write my post it shopping list - honest injun I will...

I need to work out the best way to do a meal planner. Nothing has ever worked before. First I need to sort the meals into days as we have different requirements on different days due to social lives (the SmallDragons, not me. I have no social life)

SoupDragon · 15/02/2016 12:25

Here is a spot of notebook porn... This was the other option for my GBBOE and has a wonderfully over the top silver finish leather cover which would end up pleasingly scruffy with wear I think. Purchased from TKMaxx at the same time as the Sigel book, this lost out as the other has a pen loop and a ready printed index. However, I have just noticed that it is several small books sewn into a cover so it has great potential for customising.

Oh that is lush soup.

This is my meal planner, separate from bullet journal but v customisable.

RainbowDashed · 15/02/2016 12:40

That is a very pretty book.

Meal planning is something that doesn't work in my current layout as I don't have a weekly log as such. I'm going to try a week to a double page view, decide on meals at the beginning of the week, write them in and then check what ingredients I need, I can then either jot down what I need to buy or add them straight to my online shopping list. I will then try not to get too hung up on "but my diary says we're having sausages tonight and stir fry tomorrow, we CANNOT POSSIBLY swap them round" ...

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 15/02/2016 12:46

my meal planner is a four week cycle, with the right type of meal on particular days (eg I'm generally late back on a Monday, so DD2 likes "something with mince" which I've batch cooked and frozen, so it's fairly straightforward for her. Thursdays need something which can be eaten at 6.30 and 7.30 as we need to eat separately. I swap around within the week, but not generally from one week to another, as I've worked out a weekly rotating shopping list which Mr Sainsbury delivers each Friday.

None of this in in my BuJo, meal planner is on the freezer door, shopping lists are on a spreadsheet.

I'm now changing my BuJo to have a weekly appointments page, followed by daily logs, and have a general Things I'd Like To Get Done at the beginning of the month. I still need a big wall calendar (to remind the family what's happening) as I'm not sharing my BuJo with them Grin. I'm also not sure about the fountain pen, i've ordered black ink cartridges as I think that will look nicer than the blue it came with, but as I'm too impatient to let the ink dry, I have smudges all over the place Sad.

RainbowDashed · 15/02/2016 12:49

Kewcumber loving the moving around of post its. Great idea. I have a list of meals which I can easily throw together, the list is longer than I thought it would be given that we seem to eat the same things every week. Hopefully there will be a more varied diet chez Dashed from now on.

Bendy that's exactly the sort of thing I'm planning for my weekly spread :)

BendydickCuminsnatch · 15/02/2016 13:00

Rainbow cool! Got the frame from Matalan online recently, probably still there!

SoupDragon · 15/02/2016 13:20

Like the meal planner picture frames :)

On the subject of smudgy fountain pen ink - two words : blotting paper. So wonderfully old fashioned :o

TheVeryThing · 15/02/2016 13:36

SoupDragon, I think those roller pens you linked to might work for me, as I can't manage anything that can be smudged.

I'm not remotely arty/creative so there's a good chance I'll end up with a beautiful set of coloured pens but with no idea what to do with them.

I'll have to wait until the ed of the month before I do any shopping, which gives me time to refine my system (although I keep trying to work out how quickly I can get through my cheapie notebook so I can get something nicer).

I've always loved Paperblanks but they don't seem to come with a pen loop.

I started kondoing last summer but stalled in the autumn when decorating projects took over.
I do need to get back to it, though as there's still lots to sort out. The great thing is that everyone's clothes are still beautifully organised, and I have pockets of space around the house that have not been filled with clutter again.

SoupDragon · 15/02/2016 13:41

But at least you will have beautiful coloured pens :)

TheVeryThing · 15/02/2016 14:20

Yes, i think I will be buying them just to have Smile

Kewcumber · 15/02/2016 14:40

You can buy sticky pen loops to add to any notebook theverything

www.amazon.co.uk/LEUCHTTURM1917-304637-Leuchtturm1917-Loop-Black/dp/B002CWMAPW

ChristinaRosetti · 15/02/2016 15:35

Thank you for the link whoreandpeace

I've ended up buying a set of those pens in a set of ten different colours.

Can I ask a silly question, what's the difference between roller ball and fine liner pens when writing?

SoupDragon · 15/02/2016 15:49

The rollerball has, oddly enough, a roller ball tip and the fineliner is like a felt tip pen, albeit a very fine one. I have found when colouring in with the fine liners that they "wear" on the side you're colouring with. I think the ball tip is more robust for easier writing. That's just how I feel about them though as I've used neither for long term writing.

TheVeryThing · 15/02/2016 16:18

That's good to know, thanks kew.
