Anyone got Nigella's cookie cutters in round tin?

It's the 42-piece set with letters, numbers, stars and a couple of other bits.
I'm really annoyed because they've all gone rusty - some after their first wash. I've re-washed and tried drying immediately by hand and then in a cool oven but the rust remains.
Bought them from John Lewis so am thinking of giving them a call to see if I could get a refund. Don't think I've got the receipt tho!
Has anyone else got these? If this is the best Nigella and her designery Conran mate can do, then it's not very good! Humpety-grumpety-strop!

Don't have them but asked for them for christmas - then stressed I REALLY wanted them when dh dropped hints they were hard to get (which means amazon had sold out !) and then he asked me whether I minded what colour so think he has secured some.

But, the rusting doesn't sound very good. Did you wash them in a dishwasher or by hand ?

Birdly · 21/12/2006 10:52

Sort of both. Some that I'd used before had rusted a bit, so I cleaned them up by hand and dried them before using again. After doing the Christmas cake I put them in the dishwasher to see if that was a better option - but it wasn't.
Am really annoyed - thought I had birthday and Christmas cake ideas sorted for ever more!

No, I have cheapo plastic ones from Matalan that are still going strong after dozens of uses.

Azure · 21/12/2006 11:02

I have them and haven't had that problem, not that I've used them loads.

missingmywine · 21/12/2006 11:04

Hi - yes we do have them but not gone rusty mainly due to lack of use (bad mummy - must do more baking...)

caffeinequeen · 21/12/2006 11:05

Yes - mine went rusty too. I also find the letters too small to be of any use. Bit of a white elephant actually.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 21/12/2006 11:06

I think metal cutters are prone to rusting whatever you do to them tbh. Did they have care instructions in the packaging at all?

Birdly · 21/12/2006 14:27

Caffeine - I agree. It's almost impossible to get fondant icing out of the letters. You have to poke it with something, which leaves marks on the icing.
DCGO - no instructions I could find. You're right about metal cutters rusting. I think I sort of knew this subconsciously but thought that Nigella's would be better in some way.
Am so gullible!
