I've tried

Vinegar
Salt
Cif
Hob cleaner
Ajax
Baby wipes and I'm running out of ideas?

Any thoughts??

my mum uses wirewool. don't know if that would be suitable, but that's what she uses.

um

aren't they just grubby? I mean you'll not be able to keep it sparkly for five minutes

I wouldn't try personally

It is normally clean - but we have had the wind in the wrong direction for about 3 weeks

If it is in the wrong direction for a day or two it just wipes off - but after all these weeks it is fixed

I need to clean it as I want to sell it

It's the first time in 5 years it has sooted up

I have been told to use a damp used tea bag. MIL uses a wall paper scraper, quite a sharp one like a razor on it's edge. Giving me goosebumps just now thinking of the noise it makes but it sure does work!

Mine get really sooted up, one of them is removable - I noticed a couple of screws on the side, so now I unscrew it and wash with washing up liquid - works a treat. The other one is fixed, but I get a washing up bowl full of fairy, put it under the door and wash it off that way.

YOu can buy this stuff from Lakeland, but no idea if it works or not.

caffeinequeen · 19/12/2006 21:42

One of those glass scrapers shoud do it. We've got one for our hob so guess you could get from John Lewis or hardware store?

Katymac · 19/12/2006 22:00

Hi Katy, try a damp cloth dipped in to a bit of soot/coal dust and rub hard - this is how I clean mine. Good luck!

Katymac · 19/12/2006 22:13

Well it's clean
Scraper & washing soda & baby wipes

Glad that's over

We're not that keen, Katymac. Posting a link is much less effort.

Katymac · 19/12/2006 22:19

It does look lovely now

I must take a photo - so I can sell it
