Stay well clear of dunelm and head for house of Fraser forvexcellect quality, squared and oblong tru bed cloths in 500 counts with very generous savings

However, I am a cheapskate and often pick things up right at the end of the sale.

Dunelm pillow cases and sheets are not true therefore don't sit correctly on pillows etc and a bugger to iron.

I went to house of Fraser and got higher thread count better quality linen for less money in sales

I second House of Fraser. Great reductions, they even have 800 and 1000 thread count for around £100!

I've just bought some from The White Company.

I'd say stores attge higher end, House of Fraser/ Harvey Nicks, Debenhams etc.

Although, seen nice bedding from Next and TK Maxx always have bedding in from some designer or other ie DKNY etc.

Reviews don't look too great on HoF ones though, they say that the sheets shrink then no longer fit the bed

Try Soak and Sleep website. And Feather & Black. My linen from there washes a treat. I've had it so long but it still looks good.

John Lewis - no sales that I know of but totally a changed woman.
We bought our first "proper" bed sheets (one which actually have a thread count) and I will never go back to cheap sheets again!

Another vote for John Lewis here. I agree that Dunelm fitted sheets for our superking are a little too small.

The White Company ones are much better value in the sales. Also their deep fitted sheets are really good.

John Lewis Special Buys are always a good bet.

There was a poster on here who explained how they high street brands sometimes achieve high thread sheets and it doesn't mean better quality... But I can't recall the thread. I did learn about some French linen sheets that cost more than a car and also bough these more realistically priced [[http://www.soakandsleep.com/luxury-linen-bed-linen.html French Linen sheets]] from Soak and Sleep. I heart them so much! and the crumpled linen looks great - I never iron them.

I bought really high thread count in House of Fraser sales last year. They have twisted and don't feel as nice now they've been washed. I don't rate them at all.

Another one I forgot to mention, which is bad as I've used them a few times.

King of Cotton all my duvets and pillows are from there and a couple of duvet covers etc.

So for example a 1000 thread count sheet can have 1000 really thin threads.
A 500 thread count can have 500 threads but thicker and much better quality. So basically it's about how the sheet feels and the quality of the fabric not the thread count.
