Do you gloss before or after painting the walls?

Me and DP are at loggerheads (well I am), moving house soon and already arguing about the decorating!
I say that if you are emulsioning the walls then you should do the glossing last.
He says glossing first, but I thought that you only glossed first if you were papering?
Who's right (please let it be me or i'll never hear the end of it) !

I would always gloss last - if you are using a roller you end up with speckles of emulsion on the gloss otherwise... and yes, that is from experience!

gloss last just in case any paint comes down from walls to wood work

(although I had abad experience with gloss as well so now just use satinwoood)

I always do gloss first, as emulsion can be wiped of gloss if you drip when doing the walls.

I would gloss last too, but dp reckons you gloss first! He says it's because emulsion is easier to wipe off gloss than vice versa. But I like not having to be too careful around skirting boards when I'm painting the walls, then be really neat when I'm glossing afterwards. I think you get a better finish if you gloss last.
