and I was pleasantly surprised...
I was expecting all sorts of hideousness but actually it was not too bad.

Now tell me, what should I get next time?

LunarSeasonsGreetings · 05/12/2006 09:39

And the parma/black forest hams

LunarSeasonsGreetings · 05/12/2006 09:39

Also the little bars of 75% cocoa chocolate.

WonderCod · 05/12/2006 09:41

saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaegulls

ludaloo · 05/12/2006 10:22

I shop at Lidls...but only because I don't have much choice....I live out in the sticks.

I like it though.....

Their sausage rolls are nice, veg is cheap, they do little iced finger cakes which I always buy (can't remember the name though.)
Dh likes the American Style Choc Chip Cookies
Microwave popcorn is good
Their coshida cat food is cheap and the cat seems to like it (It actually has peas in it!)

Nice xmas selection in too

ludaloo · 05/12/2006 10:24

oh and the cheese and onion pasties are nice too.

ProfYaffle · 05/12/2006 10:48

I love Lidl. The only things I don't like are their baked beans and tinned soup (v salty) everything else is fab.

Lucycat · 05/12/2006 10:57

Last time I was in they were selling Heinz baked beans at £1 for a 4 pack.

I bought four, that should keep us going for ages.

ProfYaffle · 05/12/2006 10:59

Yes, I noticed Heinz last time but we'd already stocked up on Branston beans. Will be getting Heinz next time.

WhyDooLittleStarsShine · 05/12/2006 11:14

This is fantastic. I'm printing out this list for next time we go.

I'm getting a Lidl after Christmas - it has arrived flatpack from Holland, and is being constructed impressively fast. So, what is best avoided? Apart from the polyester tracksuits. (I am a seagull, but very quiet if that is possible)

LunarSeasonsGreetings · 05/12/2006 11:26

Has anyone mentioned the excellent pesto yet?

NannyL · 05/12/2006 18:58

70% cocoa dark chocoalte is a barain and as good as the very expensive brands of proper chocolate!

ProfYaffle · 05/12/2006 19:03

The chocolate's a good one, about 50p for a big bar I think.

Basmati and jasmine rice both very reasonable as well.

busbee · 06/12/2006 09:47

mini ice creams for LOs. great for their small hans!!

WhyDooLittleStarsShine · 06/12/2006 16:16

Vanilla yoghurts???
I got some Creme Vanilla dessert in yoghurt type pots at the weekend, taste like custard. Is that what you mean?

OP posts:
WonderCod · 06/12/2006 16:17

seaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagull

WhyDooLittleStarsShine · 06/12/2006 16:22

They were seriously bargaintastic though Cod.
55p for 4!!

OP posts:
ProfYaffle · 06/12/2006 16:23

No, that's something different. The yoghurt is in a pack of 4 yellow tubs.

WhyDooLittleStarsShine · 06/12/2006 16:31

And these are in a pack of yellow tubs??

OP posts:
ProfYaffle · 06/12/2006 16:35

The yoghurty one is definitely labelled as proviact yoghurt. I hope I'm thinking of the right thing but I'm sure the custardy one is something else.

Anyway, if it's cheap and tasty it doesn't really matter!

WhyDooLittleStarsShine · 06/12/2006 16:36

I'll get bothe next time then

The Rooiboos tea is great. Less than half the price of the branded Rooiboos. They also have wild salmon frozen - really nice firm stuff, not like that dreadful flabby farmed gunk. The jumbo frozen prawns are also very good value.
