Please excuse the language but our house is constantly infested and it's driving me mad

We live directly next to a dairy farm and cows attract flys unfortunatly this means our house if full of them to.

We rent privatley and out landlord has this place painted white from head to toe so the walls, skirting boards, carpets and bathroom and kitchen suites are white which shows up copius amounts of brown fly spots where they vomit everywhere, it makes me feel sick and i am forever running about cleaning up after them.

Does anyone know of a way to rid us of them for good? I have ordered fly papers and planted basil as i hear they don;t like that, i also saw something about trapping them with jars of bait can't remeber exactly what it was though? Any ideas to save this womans sanity????

kim and aggie did a trap which was cider vinegar with a drop of washing up liquid in it.
put in a container with cling film over top.
punch a couple of holes in cling film and leave on windowsill.
hope it helps!

I have just posted on gardening re fruit flies. I've been doing the vinegar trap (though have been using malt). It is helpful for the fruit flies. I'll be picking up some cider vinegar on next shop. It is such a pain and we had friends over last weekend and they buzz around the food and it is just unpleasant in the extreme.

I've got fruit flies too. Don't know why?? They're not a regular in my house. Will try the cider vinegar trap. Don't fancy spraying fly spray all over the kitchen. Took me a while to realise what they were... thought they were flying nits... !!

apparently they dont like lavender - so you should put sprigs by open doors or windows i think.

Still got the fruit flies. Just set the vinegar thing up. Couldn't get cider vinegar, so have used normal malt with a dash of washing up liquid. Hope it works. I do however have a helpful spider in the kitchen who has spun a large web and scuttles down it and gobbles the flies up if they get caught in his web. Interesting to watch, actually.

It's working! The vinegar trap! It's catching the little feckers!! DH thought they were seeds in the bottom. Poor guy, it's such a shame.

I just set a vinegar trap this morning, you can actually watch em go down. I used malt vinegar but added a teaspoon of sugar for good measure. A few drops of Fairy and a bit of water.

I used to live next to a farm, never had any flies in my kitchen, but I never ever removed the huge spiderweb in front of my window, it was spun from top to bottom, like a natural screen. I absolutely loved that little spider.
