Thought I better set this up when I realised I had inadvertently posted the 999th post on thread 4! Shock

Join us in purging our lives of things which do not bring joy and discover the wonder and magic of folding your knickers! Grin

Gnome you might be surprised when you get there. I am a joke in my family for being such a sentimental hoarder. I'm at the kitchen stage now and already I've lost that "fear" of getting rid of sentimental things.

I feel more sadness that things are stuck at the back of cupboards, getting creased, mouldy and forgotten about. I'm ready to let a lot of it go and just display those few lovely things that bring me real joy in my nicely clearer spaces.

CoolCadbury · 13/01/2015 13:04

Pelican the carrots are stood up by MK in the door of the fridge.

Those talking about organising fridges and freezers - am I in the minority that I have always put like with like? For example, in my freezer are homemade stuff, herbs and frozen veg in the top drawer, middle drawer are meats and breads and bottom drawer are your junk products like oven chips, ice cream, fish fingers and the like. Gosh, I had one area of my life sorted and I did not even know it till now.

JKSLtd · 13/01/2015 13:11

Pelican- I just giggled out loud on the train at your confused carrots GrinGrin

Planning a day at home on Sunday. Have told dh I won't be visiting him as I need some down time. Of course I'm planning to kondo stuff then too!

My annoyance is the actual logics tics of getting rid. I need time to get to the charity shop and that isn't happening atm.

But I saw a small collection thing outside the corner shop yesterday so I might get a chance to go in there and ask if they'll take a bigger pile and offload everything to them.

I didn't see what charity but at this point not sure I care. The exit pile has been sat there for weeks now.

Gnome134 · 13/01/2015 13:46

Thanks lockie. Need to get through books next I think. Decided I am going to do my stuff first, get dh involved with his, and sort out 3 DC last! Apart from toys in the lounge at least their stuff is contained in their rooms.

Violettatrump · 13/01/2015 13:58

Thankyou for the folding/rolling encouragement girls. I must try it!!

Iqueen I felt my days were wading through treacle too, so many things needing attention and struggling to move forward. Everything is so much easier now and I haven't even finished kondoing!! Smile

lockie1983 · 13/01/2015 14:08

cadbury nope. It's all just slung in the freezer too. I have a chicken, fish fingers and loaf of bread in the top. Ice and milk in the bottom. More ice in the middle and god knows what else. You are already a brilliant freezer organiser already ! wow.

gnome You're on the same path as me then, I'm just a few steps ahead (and by no means an expert). I found books a bit tough (there is some good book conversation on the end of the last thread, which helped me reconcile some of my feelings).

misscph1973 · 13/01/2015 14:26

Oh, I actually read the whole thread! Instead of working ;)

I am so back on it, I have a Freegler picking up an old laptop this week, and I am going to wipe my old PC that I had kept as a spare, but I realised that if my working laptop went bust, then the PC would not help at all anyway. If laptop dies, I need new laptop, and thankfully I like cheap Acer laptops, so it won't be too big of a financial issue if it happens.

I have just put all my to do papers (about 10 A4 sheets) in a cheap Ikea cardboard magazine rack, so nice to not have these papers staring at me from my desk, and the upright storage frees up space.

Also put most used spice jars in a biscuit tin base, great tip, it works!

Like a lot of other people I find it hard to find suitable ways of disposing of kondoed stuff. I don't seem to get many charity bags through my letterbox at the moment, the first one this years was last week, they got 4 bags from me. I have stuff to ebay, but January is obviously not a good month to ebay.

I have quite a few wall shelves from the old house that I don't think will find a home in new house (we have been here 6 months). So I should get rid of them, but I am so reluctant to let go of storage items, they seem too useful.

I had a couple of pairs of trousers that do bring me joy, but they are quite worn by now, and I have been wanting to kondo them since November. So glad I didn't, I put one pair on this morning, and they felt so good, and they weren't as worn as I thought. With clothes, I don't think holding it in your hand is enough, it needs to be tried on.

My mum is here today and just commented on the fact that we are using the "best" teapot - won't it get broken? I told her it sparks more joy than the old chipped one and I would rather use it and risk breaking it than leave it gathering dust in a cupboard. She looked at me like I was a bit mad but conceded I'm probably right Smile

ItIsntJustAPhase · 13/01/2015 15:37

Lost a big post but in short

A) another carload to chazzer
B) JKS call a charity that will collect.. women's aid maybe or bhf
C) nearly had a panic attack trying to help my daughter with her room as she gets so lost in how much she loves each little thing. But we made some progress. And she is currently telling her brother how amazing her room looks. :-)
D) And welcome Bring. I would have found it hard to start with clothes but I had a House of Colour makeover last year which set me up for the rest of my life. Cannot recommend enough.

ItIsntJustAPhase · 13/01/2015 15:52

And I get brain fog with chronic fatigue song can relate to the feeling of being overwhelmed by too much stuff but not being able to decide what should go.

Kelly1814 · 13/01/2015 16:12

Still loving this thread. I just have to mention on slow cookers. Mien brings me so much joy AND it lives out on a work surface as it is so beautiful...it's a Union Jack crock pot. Cannot recommend enough. Use it 3 times a week.

www.amazon.co.uk/Crock-Pot-Union-Cooker-Limited-Edition/dp/B007XEJ2OQ

Been evangelical about this to DH and he almost sounded interested! This is great news. I am scared if I die first he will end up on one of those Britain's Biggest Hoarders documentaries, trapped in the house by plastic bags.

lockie1983 · 13/01/2015 16:19

Kelly you're right. Living on the surface would be ideal for a slow cooker and would bring me no end of joy if it was pretty. Will buy one that brings me joy !

Bring welcome. I found myself obsessing about clutter, reading clutter blogs etc when I was in a low place (PND). I still have good and bad days, but more good since I've been clearing out - I feel ... lighter, sounds woo, but I do feel a lot lighter since starting this realises it's early days and I might be back to Britain's biggest hoarder soon enough

Pointless I spent an hour looking at nice tea pots last night (baby has me up since 3a.m so wasn't too interested in Kondoing). DH said I am a bit crazy at the moment ...

CoolCadbury · 13/01/2015 16:26

Hi bringmejoy all Konverts are welcome Smile

I read your post as "another carrotload to chazer" phase Confused

pointlessfan it's nice to use your best everyday isn't it? I do that for household things but can't seem to manage the same for clothes.

JKSLtd · 13/01/2015 16:34

It isn't - I might try that. Hadn't occurred to me so thanks. I'm hardly at home atm so it's limited but can only ask and see.

Ps how do you post photos on here?

Welcome to the addictive kondo thread. Grin

Reporting in - today's achievements...

  • one tesco bag to the chazzer
  • four thick A1 folders of kids momentos sorted. Folders contained school reports, first shoes, a tiny baby outfit, lots of artwork, one or two birth/birthday cards, souvineers, writing throughout the years, some photos taken at a school/nursery.
ItIsntJustAPhase · 13/01/2015 17:33

JKS, when I donated some furniture to WA a while ago they were happy to find a time together on the phone.

Iqueen · 13/01/2015 17:42

Violettatrump Those folders for the children's mementoes sound great - a very good selection, they should appreciate... eventually! Grin

Great to see new people joining and delurking... Love the name bringmejoy, very MK!!!

Day off today and had a really relaxing day with my dd. She just got her first shoes, am remembering someone's suggestion of displaying them from thread 2 Smile

Can't believe how tidy my house is and how fast it can be cleaned. Will have to come up with some hobbies to fill my time post MK.

All I can think of left to do is freezer and photos. Am going to eat as much from freezer this week as can and hopefully defrost next weekend. Might have a look at that batch cooking thing when done.

Photos have done a quick run though already and burnt any dodgy ones and landscape photos. Will never bother printing photos of buildings anymore... Who do I think wants to see an out of focus mountain in the distance!!

Nearly don't want to finish as have loved the process, is that mad?? I was never bothered about house work before... Have a few decorating jobs in mind so will refocus!

homeaway · 13/01/2015 17:55

Bring

Why don't you start with socks first, or underwear, these might be easier for you to do. The way to success is to start with something you know will be easier for you. Good luck.

Un-read books... I have more than I thought! How do I know if a book will bring joy until I read it? I don't like the advice to get rid, and then re-purchase at a later date, I'm not made of money!

Right now I'm considering putting all unread books in one bookcase then making my way through them all, and making a decision on each as I finish it.
