Asleep - I love the fact that eating coffee cake made it onto your done list....

If eating cake is a part of good housekeeping, I must be a star!!!

batinshoes · 05/10/2006 11:47

Hi All

I hope Susis, tort & jarm fell better soon.

Flame - well done give it a go later but for 3 x 5 mins not 1 x 15.

Ivor - congrats on your new job

I have taken dd swimming & to the library. Now she's sat watching madagascar will make lunch in a bit and then having a rest. might fly later but not too motivated - burnt out from all hard work earlier in the week!

Ivor - congrats on the job.

mhill - It sounds like you are only just over the 3%. I'd try not to worry, and explain that you are seeking treatment for migraines (assuming you have seen your gp).Your dp sounds more useless than mine! You have my sympathy. I've always found it easier to cope when he is at work and I know I'm on my own, rather that when he's there and not helping. (It has got better over the years, but he does still fall back into bad habits)

asleep - I too was impressed that eating cake is on your list of jobs done.

I got the offer of a lift to the shops this morning, so I went and spent lots of money (2 pairs of boots and a new skirt)
All I needed was sawdust, for the hamster.

I'm going for the option of shutting the bedroom doors while my parents are here

IvortheEngine · 05/10/2006 12:05

Thanks, all, for the good wishes on the job.

Also, the hospital appointment went well. A friend insisted on taking me there, waiting with me and bringing me home. Whilst the effects of the local anaestetic last, I'm enjoying a bit of MNing. When it wears of, I'm going to take a dose of paracetamol, put the heating on and cwtsh up on the sofa.

Mummyhill - I've been there. I don't want to go through it all on MN but if you're signed up to CAT then send me a message and we can talk on e-mail. I actually rec'd a letter of termination of employment. I fought it using the union and it was blooming hard and I was in tears much more than once but I won. I had to meet with the big boss (think David and Goliath) and argue my case. They let me back with some really strict conditions, at least one of which was unfair and they had to back track on that one, and it was ever so hard for the first 6 months or so, but I made it. I've been back for 18 months now and have received good marks in my last 2 reports and a glowing report from an auditor, so it can be done. Anyway....if you don't have CAT, but want to e-mail me, that's fine, I'll get it sorted so that I can CAT you.

Ruby - Put those t-shirts in the textile recycling bag right now, if you haven't already! Put the towels in another bag, contact the cats or dogs home locally to see if they want them and if they don't, recycle them, too! Did you get the pumps you wanted afterwards?

P.S. Do I sound like a bossy mare or do I sound like a bossy mare?

Well done on the airing cupboard, Ruby. Touch wood (does MDF count?) I don't have children who are sick often, so the only rough towels we have are for drying off the dog after she gets wet. I still have far too many best towels (about 5 sets, which are in rotation, so there are too many) and can rarely resist a bargain so I have 2 sets of untouched towels as well as all those in the airing cupboard. Twit. Perhaps I'll have a dig around to see if I can get rid of some soon.

I will pop into New Look again to see if I can see the plimsols in case they have new stock. That's twice I'll have been in the shop in the last 9 years we've been living here.

Skribble · 05/10/2006 13:00

I did the same with towels, kept some whole ones for major disasters and cut up a few for clothes to try and cut down the amount of Kitchen paper I use. Still have a big pile to cull though.

Duvets well I am not so good at them, keep thinking we might need them for guests, we don't have any spare beds though so probably better with one of the umpteen sleeping bags I have anyway.

s to everyone having a crappy day, leave the major clearing and cleaning until you feel better, a wipe and a swish will do if you can manage it.

As for DH's I am losing the rag with mine. After spening loads of time clearing in the bedroom his clothes are still piled up, along with 3 holdalls and a suitcase. He keeps saying he will put it all away and looks offended when I say yeh yeh. Also we are haveing a hat battle, I cleared off the top of our lovely chest of drawers, now has a couple of candles and leather boxes for pocket junk. He now thinks his new cap should sit pride of place on top of the chest, I keep moving it and it reappears. So I am going to hide it, well actually I am going to put it on the hat hooks in the cupboard, so he will never find it. Seems trivial but it kind of sums things up for us at the moment.

Skribble · 05/10/2006 13:02

That would be for cloths not clothes we are not quite that hard up .

i think next week i am going to focus on 'warmth'. i am so cold! so i will buy us all warmer clothes, slippers, wooly socks, warmer duvet etc. our heating is playing up too, so will have to get that sorted!

the cake was lovely DP and i sat down with a cuppa and cake and had a nice chat before he went off to bed.

Skribble · 05/10/2006 13:13

BRRR mine is th same with all that stuff, it sort of spreads across the TV, dining table, computer desk and end table. I told him to keep all the phones ipods etc in the corner beside the extension for charging but no as well as having all the cables in that corner his stuff goes every where and when he is chraging stuff he trails cables across to the table argh!!!!

The kids have got the new idea, like 1 pair of shoes at front door only, clear your step when going upstairs, put clothes away, hang up coats. FGS its not rocket science, is it a way of rebeling? Winding me up? Hankering after mother? Even his mum says he was never that bad before.

Skribble · 05/10/2006 13:16

Asleep I put our heating on and it made such strange noises DD thought it was a monster, perhaps a service is required I really should do one of those maintenace things where you pay so much a month.

At least entrance and boiler cupboard presentable for visits. I can see why people get so bad on these environmental health programmes, things get so bad you can't cope then something breaks like the toilet and instead of getting someone in you start peeing in the bath. Ok I was never that bad .

batinshoes · 05/10/2006 13:17

Since FLYing my DH has become much better. He helps load the dishwasher which he didnt before and he knows i like the kitchen to be tidy before we go to bed so if i'm a bit tired he helps. He still leaves magazines everywhere, and various electonics charging but I just had the idea of a 'charging station' at the back of the garage (effectively our utility next 2 kitchen) where I'm going to get a 4-way and plug his adapters in there and he will have a set place to leave them all

OP posts:
Skribble · 05/10/2006 13:21

pERHAPS I should put the charging station in the hut .

As for DH he does less now I am flying, probably as he only ever filled the dishwasher when we ran out of dishes and put a wash on when he had no clean socks left, now that I am ahead of the game with all this he doesn't have to, so he doesn't.

IvortheEngine · 05/10/2006 13:27

Ruby - I didn't know/didn't think of it as a cheapo shop. I think of it as being somewhere for people who are into fashions and things whereas I'm....not! I try to be presentable, but that's about it. Silk purse and sow's ear, and all that!

Skribble - I think we pay every month and Worcester Heat Systems are the people who maintain our oil boiler. If there's a problem then the cost of it is covered by the agreement. They come approx Aug/Sept each year to service it. I usually get one of about 3 chappies, so I know who to expect. The system works well and it gives me the incentive to tidy up the utility room as I need to take all the shoe racks and coats out in order for them to have the space they need to work. I hope you get it sorted soon as you don't want to be without heat when it's chilly.

TortUREoiseChamber · 05/10/2006 13:36

Town now done.Didn't get too wet.Rain stopped most of the time.
Skint again now and fortgot to get sawdust.
My heating will be staying off.Now enough money on the gas pre-payment meter to put it on and no spare money to put on it!
Oh well! Better feed the dd's!

TortUREoiseChamber · 05/10/2006 13:37

'Not enough money' not 'now enough money'!

ParanoidAndroid · 05/10/2006 13:50

Hello all.

It's a miserable day here weatherwise so I've zoomed around the house in double-quick time, got my hair cut, and am about to carry on flying. I've not done much this week so I need to catch up with all the missions this afternoon!

My DH is absolutely useless, bless his cotton socks. Since we decided that I would not be able to work again, he has had to work longer hours (don't feel too sorry for him, he was only working 3 days or so a week). Consequently, his view is that he will not, and must not, lift a finger in the house. Now despite my feminist tendencies, I have some sympathy with his argument. However, there are two things which stick out like sore thumbs - firstly, when I was working full-time and travelling a lot, he was part-time and responsible for out of school childcare and the house - I was still left with all the washing and ironing, the majority of the cleaning and some food shopping. The second thing is that it is hugely HUGELY galling to find bits and pieces, clothes, shoes, books etc all left where he wants in the full and certain knowledge that I will be the one tidying them up. It seems so deliberate a wind-up that there are times when I can barely resist doing something with a red hot poker

(Deep breaths......)

Right, I'm calm again now so I'll get cracking.

IvortheEngine · 05/10/2006 14:02

Okay. How about us swopping tips on how to train dhs? Mine miraculously loads the dishwasher and gets the washing in before it rains and stuff when he's in bad books. As soon as he isn't, he reverts to type. Hmmmm. Lets suggest ways to sort out each others' dhs and see how it goes.

SusiSkelletonInTheCloset · 05/10/2006 14:18

pmsl i can add to this! nothing new thoug!
mine is exactly the same - now he sees all these empty spaces appear everywhere he thinks it's all for him. suddenly all his toys and tools and chargers are on every surface and if i 'dare' to move them back into his (redhotspot office) he goes nuts
same in bedroom: i cleared our chest of drawers and he puts his dirty working trousers on top (improvement actually, normally they just end up on the floor) - so i put them on a hook behind the door! gosh did i get to hear about that! 'stop hiding everything!!!!!!'

pmsl ivor - how about we 'swap' dh/p's??? i reckon if they are in someone elses house they are more inclined to 'help' and maybe (big MAYBE) they take something back home?!?!?

IvortheEngine · 05/10/2006 14:31

You want my dh? Now, lets be honest. He's not much good at housework and he's no Brad Pitt. He does earn a good wage, though. Is that what you were after, or did you just want to train him up for me and send him back? And while we're on the subject, what's yours like?

TortUREoiseChamber · 05/10/2006 14:33

I don't have a dp/dh to train! Does that make me lucky.
Ive done bugger all all day and im cold! Feels like a never ending battle.Tidy up and 2 mins later stuff everywhere.
