DH work shirts - who irons them? or do you make him buy non-iron ones?

Non-iron ones here. Can't think of any reason not to but maybe you disagree?

dp does his own ironing

emkana · 04/10/2006 22:24

Dh irons his own shirts.

hoxtonchick · 04/10/2006 22:24

dp does his own. i do mine & the children's. hmmmm, not fair....

motherinferior · 04/10/2006 22:25

I assume DP's shirts are ironable as someone irons them, but it's not me.

Surfermum · 04/10/2006 22:25

Dh does his own. Apart from how to spot an enemy plane 20 miles away it was probably the most useful thing the Navy taught him IMO.

hatwoman · 04/10/2006 22:27

not me.

motherinferior · 04/10/2006 22:27

Why on earth would I bother with the fabric content of his shirts? They're his shirts.

He doesn't iron my work trousers either.

hairymclary · 04/10/2006 22:27

he does his own. He likes expensive super-thick cotton ones which are a pain to iron. He told me I was doing it wrong once and has done them himself ever since

Blondilocks · 04/10/2006 22:28

OH does them.

theunknownrebelbang · 04/10/2006 22:29

DH does his own, most of the time, will also iron stuff for me.

DS1 (12) also irons his own school shirts most of the time.

Tommy · 04/10/2006 22:29

fortunately DH wears T shirts all the time - winter and summer and half of those are non iron.

Although, to be fair to him, we do share the ironing and have the rule that whoever is doing the ironing gets to choose what to watch on telly

Astrophe · 04/10/2006 22:30

I find the 'non iron' ones actually do need ironing, and are harder to iron than normal ones. Having said that, I rarely iron DH's, and neither does he! He sometimes steams them in the bathroon while he showers, and I send him off in the morning saying "have a good day - that shirt looks awful - what time will you be home?"

foxtrottingtotransylvania · 04/10/2006 22:30

Blimey that was quick!
DH ironed his own, then i'd see him standing at the ironing board late at night, exhausted but determined to get a perfect finish, so i said i'd help out. Went to M&s next day and bought half a dozen non-iron ones which i lovingly tumble dry (while on MN obviously) and hang up for him.

Crikey! am I the only one who does all the ironing? I am a SAHM and have no problem with the jobs that entails.

geekgrrl · 04/10/2006 22:31

I iron them.

I also make his lunch.

cowmod · 04/10/2006 22:31

he used to do them
now ds3 is at nursery so much i have no reason not to

foxtrottingtotransylvania · 04/10/2006 22:33

SAHM too but got better things to do than iron something that's going straight back in the laundry that night. DH does own lunch too.

CarolinahowlingattheMoon · 04/10/2006 22:33

he irons his own, every morning (they get re-creased in the wardrobe if it's not a walk-in effort ioho).

I only iron one or two of my own clothes, none of ds's.

hairymclary · 04/10/2006 22:33

i don't iron anything. I do like ironed clothes, but my immense dislike of ironing prevents me frm doing it

Astrophe · 04/10/2006 22:33

multitasker - I am a SAHM and where would I get the time!????

geekgrrl · 04/10/2006 22:35

actually, I would feel like a bit of a lazy sh*t if I didn't do those things. Dh has a 1.5 hr commute each way and leaves home at 7:20am. It's no skin off my nose to pull my weight and iron his shirt and make his lunch whilst he gets ready in the morning.

cowmod · 04/10/2006 22:36

me too
ma idle most fo the day

edam · 04/10/2006 22:36

There's not much ironing going on in this household at all, tbh. I occasionally pull the iron out if I really HAVE to. Think I may have done a shirt for dh on the odd occasion as a favour. But in general, if he wants his stuff ironed, he knows where the iron lives and has two hands to use.

Luckily he works on a website so doesn't have to wear proper shirts.

Apostrophe - I'm very organised and pretty much as my name suggests!
