Come fold your loved clothes, and feel the spark of joy in every object you own (or thereabouts).

Ohhhh my god the house is an absolute TIP! I don't know how it's got so bad, but it's looking bloody awful. Not cause of kondoing but just general life :( So feeling crap about that but still powering on through with decluttering... Only thing is that when I've done one category I end up going back to it again and again as I obviously never did it right the first time! Keep going to do the kitchen stuff and whittling it down more each time...

Hubb · 10/11/2014 22:11

And I need to get to a kitchen cupboard to get out a pasta maker that I want to get rid of but the bloody cat is asleep in front of it arghhhhhhh!

Oh the amount of times I have wanted to kondo the poor cat!!!! And I could be rid of her bed and food tray I keep tripping over! [dreams]

Ahhh feel so guilty for thinking it but she is such a pain in the ass!

trainersandaches · 10/11/2014 23:39

Found a lovely grey dress with a ripped back seam while Kondo-ing, trying to decide whether I would actually repair it or if it's time to thank it...

stilllearnin · 11/11/2014 06:35

It would be lovely to repair it - otherwise you're just a chucking machine!

I started on books yesterday. We have 7 bookcases and it was much harder than I thought. My battered teenager copies of Iain banks and lorrie Moore? I just could not get rid. Anything well written has stayed but I've collected up old textbooks and mediocre books and have a fair old pile after just 2 and a half bookcases. My ds 13 used to read like mad but dd 10 does not. I cannot get rid of his books in case she gets the reading bug. And I thought this category would be easy?!

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 11/11/2014 07:37

neverfreezelobsters where did you get your box frames? I am struggling to find nice deep ones to take the dolls house people.

I am wondering whether it's time to "thank" my wedding dress and charity shop it. Can't quite bring myself to do it!

MsBug · 11/11/2014 10:12

Peonies I have an old printers tray on the wall to keep and display small items which would be in the way otherwise. You can buy them from eBay for £20-30

educatingarti · 11/11/2014 10:17

If you have a branch of "The Range" nearby Peonies, they have box frames. they used to do them at IKEA too but no idea whether they still do!

LeapingOverTheWall · 11/11/2014 10:18

I got deep box frames some years back from IKEA. Otherwise places like Wilkinsons occasionally do them. Just don't buy other stuff while you're there Wink

ProveMeWrong · 11/11/2014 11:44

Oh NeverFreeze what a lovely idea with the children's first shoes. I LOVE that! Much better than mine which are sitting unloved in the loft.
trainers, I think if you work and are busy (aren't we all?!) I'd be tempted to take it to a seamstress/dry cleaners who repair to mend the sea, for you because unless you are competent on the sewing machine it might be tricky and put you off doing it. Or is it just the bother of getting the machine out? Mine is so so heavy and I need to learn how to use it!

listsandbudgets · 11/11/2014 18:54

Please may I join. I know I need to.

I had a low point yesterday as I sat in my living room and actually cried over how messy and cluttered the house was. I posted on chat and was given much good advice including to join this thread so here I am.

Since then I've gone all through my clothes and taken 3 big blue ikea bags of clothes to the charity shop. I've filled my old lady shopping trolley and twice with books/toys/CDs and that's all gone to charity. A huge bag of mega blocks gone and a big bag of books. I've also filled 3 black bags with rubbish.

Despite that every surface and drawer and cupboard is cluttered. It going to take a long time and a lot of effort to get on top of it but I've started.

I will buy the book and read it - the kindle version so as not to add more clutter Grin

lists - wow and double wow ! Seriously impressed at your get up and go. I don't think I've made as much progress as you in the last month and parts of this house are a pigsty BUT I now have two lever arch folders LESS of bank stuff than I used to have and that makes me happy (even though no one else has noticed it). Bring on the joy.

Justgotosleepnow · 11/11/2014 21:49

Lists that's a terrific start!
I had a similar beginning- I realised I was actually depressed with the state of the house. Found this thread (whilst sitting morosely on the sofa thinking woe is me).
Bought the kindle book.
And away we go!

Today (child free) I 'did' the kitchen dresser. Wow I did not know it held so much stuff! Huge black bin bag for the tip, bag to sell at nearly new sale/ eBay, small amount for charity, other bag of stuff to repatriate around the house that had got dumped on the dresser.
I feel great, found a cd I thought Id lost & now have a home for my handbag. It's all good Grin

educatingarti · 12/11/2014 09:19

Welcome Lists! I spent over 2 hours at the weekend typing ISBN numbers into WeBuyBooks but managed to make £30 from 50 old work revision/study/question books. They keep changing the GCSE syllabus so when I take on a new student, the chances are that none of my old books will be the right syllabus/exam board anyway. The really out of date/tatty ones went in recycling along with a whole pile of papers. (Mainly worksheets that I though I might use again and that were waiting for me to file - realised I have a load of "go-to"worksheets anyway and when I need something new my first port of call is always to search t'internet anyhow!)

I do feel much better for this, don't have a great pile of books on the floor anymore and have some artificial anenomes in a beautiful blue vase where my overflowing "filing" tray used to be! The rest of the office still needs loads of work though!

I'm not mentioning the rest of the flat although I am working still on socks - 5 unmatched ones and a tatty pair in "to go for rag" bag!

StuntNun · 12/11/2014 09:34

I tried to Kondo my books but now I'm rereading one I was going to get rid of and it's really good. I think books are going to be a challenge.

I'm not sure what to do about clothes either as I'm pregnant so I'm going to need clothes temporarily after the baby's here until I lose the baby weight. Is it okay to bag them up and stick them in the loft for later then just sort out what fits me now?

CecyHall · 12/11/2014 16:14

I feel like everything is closing in on me again- I am attempting to decorate my bedroom (but the paint won't go on nicely so it's pudding me off) so I've put a lot of stuff in my wardrobes out the way and it's just so much stuff. I just want to get rid of everything but don't want to regret it- the balance is tricky.

CecyHall · 12/11/2014 16:15

It's pudding me off? Ffs, I meant putting obviously!

CecyHall · 12/11/2014 16:16

Oh my god, I've just reread it again and I actually meant pissing me off.

I'll go and curl up in a ball now and shut up!! Sorry!

MILLYmo0se · 12/11/2014 18:11

Awww Cecy ! you need a large cuppa woman ! :)

JimmyCorkhill · 12/11/2014 18:17

Another fan of NeverFreeze's 1st shoe idea. How did you attach the shoes to the back of the frame or did you just lean them???

IKEA seem to have stopped doing the box frames, at least I can no longer find them.

And here is an illustration for the erasers in a box frame suggestion. How cool? Thank you for the suggestion whoever said it, I am going to do this with all the titchy plastic tat toys the DDs have.

I am so impressed with everyone who are making progress. I'm still at a haitus with my tidying but I'm not too fussed. My clothes still look great all folded up. As does DS's.

jimmy Shock, sorry but those poor little people look uncomfortable to me. I want to break them free. Grin

Fifilal · 12/11/2014 21:07

Hi lists, saw your original post in chat and really glad you've joined the gang... I feel so much better about our home from the little few bits I've done. Esp my clothes and toiletries. I've actually started using all the body lotion and face cream that was jammed in the back of the cupboard so skin benefitting too! I also decided to work my way through all the little bottles of shampoo that I lifted from fancy hotels we got to pre-dd (am I the only one who does this, see a mini molten brown bottle and turn into a thief!). They are all gone now and had lovely hair for a full fortnight and now an empty shelf.
I hit a low point 2 days ago when sorting through another drawer and found a load of belts, gloves etc and actually felt a bit nauseous thinking of all the hard earned money I've spent on junk over the last few years. Decided that was never shopping again but naturally on annual day out with dm and dsis did buy 3tops and a skirt but I do lurve them and would have bought a whole heap more only was super critical, thinking will this end up in a charity shop next year??
On another note, with babies first shoes, love the idea of box frame. My dd not walking yet but will defo do this for her. Was in a cafe today and the ladies and gents doors were marked with either blue or pink babies shoes on the door. Was v cute.. Think I'd like to do that with her bedroom door...
