Here we go again- a new month to whip our houses into shape!

If you're suffering from CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) and STUFF (something that undermines family fun) then you need Flylady.

Don't sign up for emails on the Flylady website as you'll be inundated. Everything you need to know will be posted in the thread on a daily basis.

Depending on the stage you're at with FL you'll be:

  1. Starting or repeating FL's babysteps.
  1. Repeating babysteps + decluttering for 15 minutes per day in current zone.
  1. Reinforce babysteps + daily missions if you'vefinished decluttering.

4.Number 3 and detailed cleaning anyone here yet??!

Bear in mind:

  1. You're never behind!
  1. No perfectionism allowed.
  1. Your house did not get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy overnight.

Some of the fledglings have been chatting and flying on MN for 10 years. I still think of myself as a newbie sometimes (even though I've been here for 2+ years!). Everyone's welcome! Old timers, newbies and lurkers alike, come and share your ta das, to dos and a whole lot more Smile

Sorry for lack of OP links - am posting on the laptop that time forgot and am just keeping my fx that the OP posts!

Will be back on August 31st (pretty late probably!) with links for the 1st September.

Morning everyone and welcome to newbies, returners and the usual crew :)

Hoping to start as I mean to go on today but events are conspiring against me:

  1. It is raining therefore the huge piles of washing will not be depleted by much
  2. The remote desktop wouldn't boot so I haven't got on with the work I planned to do earlier which means it will eat into family/Flying time later
  3. We are in denial that this week is 'back-to-school' week (and this w/e is the Wolf Run but that bit is just my denial :))

However I have:

  • Put on one load of washing
  • Stripped DS's bed as wet
  • Got DS showered and everyone fed
  • Put on chicken stock

So, I need to:

  • Work - contract invoices AT LEAST
  • Get DC to wash up (no dish washer here either)
  • S&S x 2
  • Sweep hall floor
  • Put remains of camping stuff in garage (and get DH to FOLD HIS BLOODY TENT AWAY Angry)
  • Hoover living room once camping stuff removed

That will do for now.
Off to battle with computers now. Wish me luck.

Hi all,

New to MumsNet but not to Flylady. I am 29 +5 weeks pregnant today and it is sapping a lot of energy but my procrastination is using the pregnancy as an excuse too!
I would love to join for September. Starting with 15 mins declutter in our bedroom and 15 mins declutter in the hallway and porch. Amazing how those hotspots build up!

CallingAllEngels · 01/09/2014 10:49

Welcome catg - 23 weeks pg here and exhausted! Just taking a breather on the sofa.

ta da
coffee with ILs to be social and get my brownie points Wink
Wash #2 on
Arranged babysitter for mw appt tomorrow night
dinner out of freezer (slow cooked lamb from a Sunday last month!)
unpacked ds bag and sorted christmas/birthday purchases to hide in attic/study and things to take to school tomorrow

Jungle Book is currently looking after DS so I'm off to make beds and unpack main suitcase of our clothes

New academic year, new month, new Monday, new 'flying' start in the pushme household!

On my way to work after a hospital appointment so quick post today but determined to stick to the baby steps and missions this month!

Back later but for the record I have an upright piano and love a roast Grin

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 01/09/2014 11:01

I am going to start trying to actually follow the recommended task areas this month. Blush Usually I kind of do my own thing, but I'm going to make an effort to conform for a bit. So here we go....

Weekly blessing:

vacuum - can't. broken. But I did use the little hand vac and will sweep later in the day.
dust - did this yesterday. We won't discuss my fridge though, as previously stated. Grin
quick mop - mops get done in the evening. otherwise my dcs trample all over it and there's no point having done it.
polish mirrors and doors - again, an evening job. i will write it on my list.
purge mags/catalogues - did that last week. haven't gotten any new, so I guess that's sorted.
change sheets - did that a couple days ago. gosh, I'm feeling quite clever now. (I'll enjoy that while it lasts!)
empty all trash cans - hmm.. did that yesterday too. Maybe I should make a list of this so I do it all on one day. lol

today's mission: zone 1, front porch, entrance, dining room. Again, did the entrance yesterday. Dining room has been an ongoing project for the last week and making more and more progress, so will continue to work on it today a little bit. Front porch will have to wait until later in the week when both dcs are in school.

Wow... the conforming didn't go that well, did it? Grin I'll keep trying.

ta da
usual morning routine
tidied living room
washing up
recycling out
emptied dryer
drank lots of coffee

to do
finish list (must get back into the habit of doing list in evening - I waste far too much time and drink far too much coffee putting together my list in the morning!!)

CallingAllEngels · 01/09/2014 11:51

Lunch break here!

ta da
changed all beds
unpacked main suitcase and travelling handbag
made lunch

dh has just annoyed me by calling from work and asking me to do something7ng. He can easily do it this evening - I never call from work and give him jobs to do! Told him I have my own agenda today.

Am getting there, but today feels like a struggle. Lots of sofa breaks!

laurenamium · 01/09/2014 12:27

Hi everyone! Can I rejoin? It's good to see some old faces Grin

I've been keeping on top of routines and things but there's a little bit of clutter here and there, my DP has moved in and also I'm pregnant Grin (early days) so there's lots to be doing and getting organised for!

catg83 · 01/09/2014 12:35

Well bit of a mixed blessing on today's mission. my other half has broken the handle on the under stairs cupboard so I can't get the hoover out! So couldn't clean the entrance. So changed to 15 mins in the front garden doing jobs I have been putting off. The out of control sage plant looks a lot better and the swept path looks vaguely neat.

ToffeeWhirl · 01/09/2014 12:39

Welcome threeislovely and cat Smile.

Am reading and running as I have a precious couple of hours to work at home without DS2 here (dropped him off at friend's house).

ta da

Took DS2 to friend's house
Stayed for tea and chat
Missed rubbish collection
Persuaded DS1 to take a bath and wash hair

to do

prune essay

Stewedcoot · 01/09/2014 12:57

Lunch break. Getting through my list ok. The weather has a wicked sense of humour. Now everyone is back at school/work the sunshine has broken out!

Take it steady Engels (especially if you have a cough) and don't overdo it!! [Sorry didn't realise you were at home today - mistakenly thought for some reason you were back at work. Good luck for tomorrow anyway and for the week ahead!]

A warm welcome to Threeislovely and Catg83

Very envious of your time in Scotland and the good weather Whoknows; sounds really lovely!

Yay! Great to have you back Lauren! Many congratulations on your dp and your pregnancy!! Thanks Hope dd and the horses are thriving too!

Special hellos to Hyperhops Feetheart and Pushme!

Feetheart hope your day gets easier and obstacles remove themselves! You seem to be very pro-active despite them anyway. Home made chicken stock sounds delicious!

Pushme hope hospital appt went well

Hyperhops good luck with your list

Vivacia yes, you are doing brilliantly! Small, realistic steps done consistently is the way to go!

Ellis good to hear your ds is already a keen Flyer (albeit a wee bit problematic in reality!)

Sounds as if you are really on top of things Alice!

Big feathery waves to everyone else!

This is like a January thread with everyone returning to the fold Grin

Stewedcoot · 01/09/2014 12:58

x posts Good luck with essay pruning Toffee!

laurenamium · 01/09/2014 13:02

Cleaned hob
Emptied bins

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 01/09/2014 13:18

Lauren welcome back and congrats!!

Toffee good luck with your essay

SC my dcs aren't quite back in school yet, but almost!! Grin

I've just rang the local furniture recycling place, and they will be collecting a few items from me later this week. That will be the bulk of my dining room cleared out them. Hooray!! It'll feel so spacious!! My friend was trying to convince me to sell the furniture on ebay so I can make some money off it, but to be fair it's such a hassle, I'd rather give it to the local recycling. They sell secondhand furniture at a really good price, and I've bought my share of furniture there over the past 5 years, so I'm happy to donate to them. I'll probably be back there looking for bed frames over the next few months as I replace beds, just in case they have some I like. They also sell new mattresses at a good price. I'd prefer to support local businesses when I can.

But wow - actual progress!! Money will be tight for a few weeks, but I've got the DIY supplies I need for the next few things that need doing, so hopefully I can get the wallpaper finished in the living room on Friday. Fingers crossed!!

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 01/09/2014 13:19

typo bulk of the dining room cleared out THEN... yeesh. Hate when I typo. Hmm

ToffeeWhirl · 01/09/2014 14:17

Have managed to prune 100 words, but still have another 100 to cut . Think I'd better go and get DS2 now, otherwise I might be pushing my luck. Friend said not to worry, but I don't want to take advantage although I'm sorely tempted.

threeislovely · 01/09/2014 14:22

Definitely fed up of the rain today! I had thought I could send the kids out to trampoline so that I could mop the house.... Now if I do that they will tramp the mud back through!

Ta das:

Shine sink
Tidy hot spots which seem to have exploded over the weekend when Daddy was in charge!
Cleaned lounge
Tidied kitchen
Three loads of washes
Dishwasher emptied, reloaded and on
Hoovered
Tidied beach stuff away
Tidied conservatory

To dos:

Label kids clothes for school
Put PE kits together
Change the cat litter
Bring the bins in
Tidy the stuff on top of the hall cupboard

However, we are getting lots done, so the mopping may have to wait for another day.

NickNacks · 01/09/2014 15:28

Links for Tuesday:

Babystep number 2 is getting dressed to shoes. Not everyone follows this I don’t but I agree with the principle of dressing as if you’re going to be heading out the door, even if it’s not in the plan.

Today’s mission is to put out the fires in your entrance hall, front porch and dining room. All the missions for the week are here.

Tuesday is Plan and Play Day.

Here is Tuesday’s flight plan.

Back later with round up.

And don’t forget to shine that sink Grin

OP posts:
CallingAllEngels · 01/09/2014 19:24

Today’s round up

Mercury spent a sleepless night before first day in new job. Glad to hear you survived. She also made a resolution to cook a roast every Sunday – yum!

Toffee has been writing and pruning her OU essay.

ellie has been packing up as the holiday finish, and is heading back to reality to pack DS off to big school.

sc has packed dd off to school and dh off to work. Glad to hear you’re happy about dd’s teacher this year – it can make such a difference. Sun has been shining here as well!

NickNacks is back to the grindstone (her words not mine!).

Whoknows is back from Scotland and thinking about getting up.

Welcome three, vivacia, hyperhops, ellis (who is already ahead!), catg - newbies, lurkers and returning fledglings!

Alice has been doing some hardcore, detailed cleaning behind appliances. Very brave of you Grin Also, getting rid of furniture and talking DIY and decorating – there’s no stopping you! (And btw conforming is overrated).

feetheart is in denial and doing battle with computers (sounds very melodramatic).

pushme is feeling very determined this month.

jemima has a lovely tidy house.

lauren is not only back but has lovely news – another Flybaby on the thread! There must be something in the –steam mops-- water . Congratulations!

Phew! What a busy day on the thread dare I say it, September is the new January

OP posts:
AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 01/09/2014 19:34

Mercury you're cooking a roast every Sunday? Excuse me, and where is OUR invitation?!? Grin We'll ALL be there. (that way I don't have to cook one!)

Goodness, I was going to buy a steam mop.... perhaps not now. Hmm

CallingAllEngels · 01/09/2014 19:35

Ta da
Hoovered upstairs and down
S&S bathroom and downstairs toilet
Washing up x2
Wash#3
All 3 loads of laundry away - now up to date except towels and bedding
Supermarket
Topped up windscreen washers
Emptied outside bin, kitchen bin and plastic recycling
Got garden waste bin out for collection tomorrow
Hung up outfit for work tomorrow
Made lunch for tomorrow

Am feeling very unprepared for my first day of lessons tomorrow. Not sure what I'll be walking into and have a heavy teaching load tomorrow. Achey bump as well - felt like an old woman walking round the supermarket. Definitely aiming for an early night. Probably won't be on till later tomorrow as we have mw appt after DS's bed time.

To do
Eat chocolate dessert
Bedtime routine (cleansing face, moisturising bump etc).
