mmmm, complete opposite post to RubuRioja's here!

Tired, bored, headache blah blah blah!

Shiny sink mind you!

sorkycake · 31/08/2006 10:03

Up & dressed, kids aren't but they prefer to be naked.
Kitchen done, washer on, dryer on as raining, dishwasher finished and unloaded, breakfast tidied away, pets fed, bathroom cleaned, beds aired and changed. Bin changed. All clothes put away. Toilets scrubbed. Post seen too and sorted. I have been up since 7am tho'.
I'm going to tackle the bookshelves in the living room today, there are 36 of them, eek!

flossieteacake · 31/08/2006 10:26

tortoise we hire our carpet cleaner from Homebase or they also do it at Johnsons (the cleaners). Not sure if they will deliver but worth a try?

My sink isn't shiny but I did have a super early night so maybe it was worth it? Off to put some laundry on anyway.

flossieteacake · 31/08/2006 10:28

Sorkycake the image of your perfect FLYed house filled with naked children has made me chuckle Well at least you won't have so much laundry to do tomorrow!

mummyhill · 31/08/2006 10:38

Morning all. Been up since 6 when dd wet the bed (yipee).

Sink Shiny, dishwasher unloaded and breakfast stuff stacked in it, 3rd load from mnt washmore going through hopefuly by the end of today I will be able to do 1 load each day. Swept the floor in living room yesterday inc moving furniture so will just give it a quick swipe over later and give it a good mop over after kids have gone to bed (this will have to count as doing Kelly's mission today). Off to scrub bathroom. Then must get on with decluttering the bedrooms!!

Ooh shall I take a pic Ruby? We do have quite a few books, with no signs of the buying, slowing. We're about to run out of space!
Gonna go get the camera!

mummyhill · 31/08/2006 10:44

Wish I had room for that many shelves most of my books have been relegated to the loft, I have to rotate them every 6 months or so.

Cappuccino · 31/08/2006 10:48

oh tra la tra la

my living room looks great

it is so good I have actually been cleaning it; and tonight I was going to do the floor properly and I have just seen that that is Kelly's mission

I have sent a birthday card on time for the first time in my life

and I have even sent dh's cousin's son his Christmas 2005 gift card which I kept finding at the back of a drawer

I have spent the last few minutes rofling at this quote from a flylady email: ocd you style fish you will love this particularly:

'Why do we do this to ourselves? I guess it is just
like a good pair of lace up shoes. We don't feel we deserve it and put
ourselves last'

it's true. so many times I say to myself, I just don't deserve a good pair of lace up shoes.

Snort

sorkycake · 31/08/2006 11:51

Ok this is the first time I've done this so bear with me.
The other side of the french doors has another bookcase but that's the one I've started cleaning.
here

JessaJam · 31/08/2006 12:01

I put in (another) plea with dh to get some shelves up in the flimmin' living room last night. I have been shelf-less for several months now since it was re-plastered...hence why the dining room table is a 'hot spot' (dining and living room joined) as it is the Out Of The Way Place where everything ds can't have gets put!

shazronnie · 31/08/2006 12:22

That is alot of books sorkycake! We used to have 100's but I am now gradually sending them to the charity shop.

Not done much flying today - but the kids are driving me mad, so think i will do some housework to distract myself!!

Someone asked why all the fridge cleaning? Because Flylady has a specific task for each day. Wednesday is cleanout fridge and plan a week's menus. I went to Tesco this morning armed with my list from my weekly plan so we will see if i run out of anything!

Monday is home blessing day, Tuesday is do something for yourself day, Thurs is errand day, Friday is date night (when I usually do the ironinh LOL!) sat is family day, and on Sundays we renew our spirits!

Cappuccino · 31/08/2006 12:37

oh you're very organised shaz with your weekly plan!

I did sit down and do my weekly plan in my control journal using the 'idiot's guide to control journals'

I couldn't fit everything into my week! Also I had to redo my fridge cleaning since I was meant to be cleaning it out the day after I shopped

tonight I have designated as 'floors night' because the quick mop round in the home blessing is lovely but does not come near to tackling the devastation of my hard floors

Cappuccino · 31/08/2006 12:38

oooh sorky meant to ask - how are you dusting books? We have loads too; have been rubbing at the tops with a microfibre cloth but if you have any brilliant insights... I mean I'm not getting them all out if that's the solution

sheepgomeep · 31/08/2006 13:21

thanks for the welcome amanda and flamesparrow.

I'm just re reading the thread now and you all seem very organized!

Mind you this year all my kids uniform has been bought and is ready to go.. something that i normally struggle on every year.

sorkycake · 31/08/2006 13:29

Shall I let you into my secret Cappuccino?
You pull all the books out once a year. They don't need any more than this because I store the books at the very front of the bookcase, so they're all flush with the front. This means there is hardly no dust on them, twice a year a give them a dusting (still in place tho') with a feather duster. There will be very little dust behind them after a year, but still it's nice to know they've been done.
The bookcases are the start of my Christmas cleaning scedule which starts first week September.

sorkycake · 31/08/2006 13:30

schedule

damewashalot · 31/08/2006 13:39

I've ground to a halt today, did swish and swipe and sink shiny but that's it, want to go back to bed
Grumble over, just can't get myself going today and am out this afternoon. If you all keep being so organised I may be forced to hide

fullmoonfiend · 31/08/2006 13:44

So, after several weeks, would those of you who were disorganised household slatterns recommnd Flylady?? Would it work if I am out at work (school hours) durng the day??

C'mon, talk me into it....

damewashalot · 31/08/2006 14:05

I've only been at it for about a week but it seems to be helping, I'm being usless today but my sink has been clean since I started not just not bad actually shiny and clean and my bathroom is staying cleaner than usual aswell. The sink thing sounds silly but once you do that you want it to spread and it's something possitive to focus on. I'm sure it wold fit around work as is all about routine and doing a little at a time.
So come on in! and don't worry about the shoes most of us don't but you never know they may work

shazronnie · 31/08/2006 14:23

Fullmoon fiend - it can definitely help you! FL is all about small jobs, 15 mins at a time and creating those little habits which stop mess accumulating. Eg. I cleaned my bathroom 2 weeks ago when it was bathroom week, and since then have swished and swiped (for about 1 min) every morning and it is still tidy. (ok the bath ring is reappearing, but no panic bathroom week comes again soon!)

FL also makes you focus on one room at a time so we are all in the lounge, not getting distracted by mess elsewhere.

Today I have vacuumed my lounge to within an inch of its life. I swear on my girl guide handbook there is NO dust in my front room.

I even vacced the curtains and behind sofa !!!

shazronnie · 31/08/2006 14:23

Oh, and in case no one remembers I'm the one who wears shoes!!

tortoise · 31/08/2006 14:26

My front room is still a pit.
But i have moved the fridge and dishwasher and cleaned under them!Only because the man came to look at what flooring i phoned about and i showed him how bad the kitchen floor was and he said they would do that too! I had images of workers moving the washing machine etc and gasping at the debris and dirt under it!! Will also have to move the fridge and freezer before they come!I know some grapes have rolled under the fridge
