[The fiascos are all mine btw Grin!!]

And just for Just, February is the new January that was the new January before Grin Wink

If you are struggling with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and wine and cake along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that you can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in zones of the house which are designated weekly; defining and minimising housework, which in theory should leave you with loads more time to do something more interesting instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling when you are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once. No problem if you miss a day or two; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again!

It’s up to you, but we advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

More info here on getting started and Flying lessons. Here's the launch pad for more experienced fledglings. Don't be put off by the barf-tastic language of the site - the underlying system is sound!

Points to keep in mind:
(1)No perfectionism allowed - this is harder than you would imagine
(2)You are never behind just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
(3) It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night - accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

Humungous thanks to Bitchy Thanks for steering us through the hectic January thread and for the wise three-line mantra above.

All regulars, lurkers and newcomers welcome!!

Your plans for the evening sound perfect Engels. I really need to rediscover my reading mojo and stop spending every evening either working or staring gormlessly at the television.

sanschocolat · 21/02/2014 20:39

Evening. Just taking my bunions to bed ...

Enjoy your reading Engels
Enjoy the crocheting Bitchy
Enjoy the telly Mercury
And enjoy the Wine Humanordancer Wink

**

Baby-step no. 22 for Sat 22nd Feb is about building a control journal, if you want to that is.

Tomorrow is our last day in Zone 4: The Master Bedroom (Feb 16 – 22) here.

Declutter for 15 mins a day in this zone!

Once you have decluttered, you can if you wish go on to detailed cleaning.

No missions because it is the weekend! Yay!

The daily focus for Saturday is: family fun.

The monthly habit for February is still : decluttering 15 mins a day.

A summary of the above plus reminders can be found here in the flight plan which updates itself daily.

G'night all.

CyberMam · 21/02/2014 21:38

Well this week's been pretty much a write off, but managed to get a few bits done today

Ta da
3x loads laundry washed, dried and put away
15 mins clear up in bedroom
Cooked up big curry for tea, froze leftovers and all cleared up
Phoned friend I've been meaning to contact for at least a couple of weeks

To do
Need to start work on a presentation for Tuesday evening but probably won't
Get ready for tomorrow- got a blissful child-free day long art workshop
Go to bed at a sensible time instead of spending hours on tinternet

Hope you all have a good evening and a good day tomorrow

BlueEyeshadow · 21/02/2014 21:41

Ta da!
Washing done
Clothes on line for the first time this year :)
Half term events in town with boys
Bit more of making Tower Bridge out of cardboard (DS1's homework) Hmm
Dinner
Cleaned up kitchen

Been quite a nice day on the whole. Big waves to all. Wine Cheers!

PeanutPatty · 21/02/2014 21:52

Evening everyone!

Ta Da's:
2x laundry washed
One load dried and away
Other load still in TB - should put away.....
Dry Airer clothes put away
Non TD clothes drying on airer
Started ironing - done half the bag
Eaten too much chocolate
Dog walked
Swept and mopped middle of floors
Added my Kenco points to my acct not the to will prob ever redeem them

To Do:
Too much to mention

SC I couldn't get the journal link to work?

I spend far too much time online. Every night I promise I will go to bed early. Never happens.

I've realised where I go wrong each day wrt getting stuff done. As soon as I sit down for a meal/caffeine refreshment any motivation I had disappears.

PeanutPatty · 21/02/2014 21:55

Toffee your Ta Da today is my favourite. I was in out bedroom earlier putting clothes away and my bed looked so inviting. I was very tempted. Then the crashing reality of the Minis running riot downstairs grounded me again. Grin

Bitchy that is an absolutely mammoth list!

BitchytheGreat · 21/02/2014 22:15

But that wasn't Peanut it doesn't include a whole heap of stuff Blush I couldn't be bothered to do a final write up I got bored of typing...

Tomo is going to be a busy day. But the key point on the to do list is 'Do not kill anyone'

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 21/02/2014 22:17

Evening all,

Sorry to have been AWOL, routines all go to pot in the holidays. Moderate amounts of Flying. We are still without the WM, so I sent three bags full to my mum's yesterday with the DCs. We've had a nice few days, the DCs went for a sleepover with the GPs (and laundry) on Weds staying till yesterday evening so I could go to work. Today we went bowling with a friend and her DCs, then for a pub lunch and back to hers for coffee, the DCs hardly know each other (we are God-mothers to each other's eldests but only manage to meet up about once a year) but they all got along well. Tonight DS has a friend for a sleepover and DH has gone to a beer festival with some of the other Dads from school. Got a really busy weekend in store too, going to a hen night tomorrow, first one for about 20 years.

Castlelough · 21/02/2014 23:54

Have also fallen offs the flywagon, keeping Engels company! Wink
Jumping back in tomorrow Grin. Wingflaps to everyone x

PeanutPatty · 22/02/2014 07:39

Bitchy that's a first class priority you have there. I often adopt it myself. Grin Though sometime I do dream of escaping myself and leaving them all to it. Chaos and all!

Oh no Bitchy, hope you're on the mend soon Thanks

ToffeeWhirl · 22/02/2014 19:05

bugger! not moved cept for food - this comment made me laugh, thinking Grin

I haven't done a bit of Flying today. I received confirmation from the LEA that they had received my application for a statement and, even though I knew what was coming, having it in b&w that I had six weeks to provide evidence threw me into mental turmoil. DH seemed to notice that nothing was getting done in the house and quietly did all the washing up and put two loads of washing on Smile.

Took DS2 to The Lego Movie this afternoon. The man sitting next to me fell asleep and snored loudly. It occurred to me that this was actually a very good idea (the sleep, not the snoring!), so I closed my eyes and was soon fast asleep. I didn't wake up until the finale Grin. DS2 liked the film and I liked the snooze, so we were both happy.

Last day of half term tomorrow. Will have to sort washing and housework to set me up for the week ahead. And am behind with my OU work again.

Bitchy - sorry about your chest infection. Hope you get to see the dr tomorrow.

SC - glad you are coping with all the guests.

(Hope you are enjoying lots of newborn baby cuddles, PA Envy Grin).

ToffeeWhirl · 22/02/2014 19:13

That is so sad, Goth. You can see evidence that someone cared for that house once (pictures carefully positioned on the walls, cleaning products in the kitchen and bathroom, colour-coordinated sofa and curtains; a tea service displayed in a corner cupboard), but something has gone horribly wrong - some crisis in the occupant's life, maybe. The death of a partner?

On a lighter note, it does make me feel better about the state of my own house Grin.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 22/02/2014 19:38

Maybe it got repossessed Sad.

I'm off out tonight, hen night. Hoping it won't be too riotous!

ToffeeWhirl · 22/02/2014 19:46

Good luck, Who. I mean - have a good time!

BitchytheGreat · 22/02/2014 20:41

Nah will be tuesday which sucks as I spent the rest of this afternoon coughing up a lung. I reckon that gives me about half a lung to function on right?

I just managed not to kill anyone. But it was a very close call! Not happy tonight but off to do kit washing and sorting ds out who is currently de-stinking in the bath.
