So here it is the dreaded January thread. The thread of resolutions and good intentions for the year that you are lucky if you see through to the end. Welcome to the start of 2014!!

A quick note for newbies, this is a long running thread. We do like new blood around here. However, we do ask you to be respectful that for a lot of us just getting off our arses is not going to help and to avoid suggesting this. We all know life is more complicated then this. So here we do things a little differently. A little bit of flying and a lot of chatter and moral support. Feel free to jump on board and join us in flying.

For those who are new to fly lady she recommends a three step program:

1. Get those babysteps into a habbit
2. Get rid of the clutter.
3. Get that deep cleaning done.

Don't worry if you think you not doing it right but not getting up to it. Some of us have been here for years and we are still decluttering. Because clutter has a nasty way of multiplying if you take you eye off it, especailly if you have kids.

Fly lady ethos tells us a few things that I want you to remember:
No perfectism this is harder then you would imagine
You are never behind just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

So jump on board and lets get started.

Oh and I forgot the proper introductions. "I'm Bitchy and I shall be your guide to the fly lady system for January" better buckle up as things normally get a little crazy when it is my turn to take control. good luck

Hoover out car and clean porch...these are jobs hanging over from last weekend that I really want to tick off

Ergh- been on safeguarding/ child protection course this morning :( have no enthusiasm to do anything now...

well family fun was surprisingly fun. Ds is in a good mood and building lego. I am about to eat lunch and then head off to Ikea. On a staturday daytime. I know, i know. Insanity lines this way. But I am fed up of the chest of drawer issue and it needs fixing. before I go completely mad from that.

Bit of a mixed morning here...everyone very flammable! Ds2 has come back from football in a state, as usual, and we had a little chat and decided he should take a break from Sat football after 4 years, and perhaps do something less emotionally draining (it is hard to relate to all those people, do the right shot, not get a medal...etc etc) on Saturdays. I think what would suit him better would be a long walk/adventure somewhere with people he knows (like his Dad hope Dh is on the same page with this plan] We may drop Drama as well on Sundays, but dh thinks he really likes that. Just that afterwards he is in a state about homework [sigh]

Dd and ds1 have walked off to the distant cinema to get some fresh air - meeting up with dd's friend to watch Hobbit for the second time (dd hasn't seen it though)

I like you nicknacks am off to Child Protection training session for the catechists. Oh dear, I hadn't considered it might be very upsetting. Will have to steel myself.

I've decided most of the work we do at the weekend is superfluous, as the dcs could EASILY do it. Like their breakfast, their PE kits, their bedrooms, the rubbish, the recycling, errands...Just need to persuade them of this fact, then we could all do more enjoyable things together like outings.

Dc's have been banned from screens and are amusing themselves quite happily. DS is drawing and DD is playing with her dolls. DH at work and I am about to complete the to do list.

Have postponed family fun until this evening/tomorrow morning.

NickNacks / Swan - yes, child protection is a difficult subject, but it may amuse you to hear that I was thoroughly embarrassed on mine (did it for my childminding course), when I discovered that my DS1 had had the three injuries that were, apparently, never accidental: a black eye (he fell on his drinking cup); genital injuries (caught his foreskin in the loo seat one morning); and something else that I can't remember. I recall the teacher being very definite that if a child had one or more of these, they were warning signs .

Ellie - feeling tired just reading your list. Well done.

Have managed to cook a very healthy roast dinner for the family, with not one, not two, but three vegetables. Not that the DC touched the vegetables, of course. We played this game whilst we ate, which was very successful.

We've been out all day in town but also managed to tick off a few things that have been languishing on the to do list for a while - it seems so much easier darting round banks, M&S etc here than in London.

Finally, I have my sports bra No excuse not to exercise now

New years resolutions going well - I've been trying to make small changes and so far it's working. Diet wise, I've reduced carbs, and I've shrunk a bit and seem to feel more energetic. [No batteries in the scales, and I'm not sure I want to replace them]

I've been slack about keeping up with the easter renovators thread, but think maybe I was trying to do too much all at once. I have kept up with the daily body brushing though, and can see a distinct difference.

Well yes toffee I had a few moments but didn't announce them to anyone. Ds1 has also had an accidental black eye thankfully caused at school when he got an elbow to the eye during Judo. And I'm fairly sure my children go to school looking like they've been dragged through a hedge backwards raising neglect concerns on a regular basis.

Is shattered, rolling skating was hard work, as we hadn't done it before but most of the boys took to it, one was exceptionally good.

Back in time to make dinner before going to the gym, but really want to go to bed instead, ideally with big box of chocolates and a bottle of .....

at your DC raising neglect concerns on a regular basis, NickNacks. I sometimes worry about that with DS1 when he won't put a coat on, comb his hair, cut his nails or brush his teeth before school . I do try, but sometimes it's not worth the battle.

Fell asleep on the sofa whilst DS2 was playing with Lego. Still haven't done the washing up from lunchtime. I don't seem to have any energy.

DH says he feels like a glass of wine for the first time since he became ill. Must be a good sign.

child protection meeting...a bit but we had a lovely teacher amongst us who does Sunday School who made us roar with laughter throughout, slightly defusing the tension!

The emphasis was on the fact that what might be a minor concern, could be raised by several different agencies and unless they all made the attempt to log it, no -one would ever put two and two together and realise that lots of minor concerns make a major concern.

tried to make Ds2 watch a cartoon version of Beowulf (failed miserably as he ran off screaming -with boredom--..but DH and I watched enthralled - it was WEIRD! Oh well ds2 will have to make up his interview with Beowulf then (for English homework) I give up..

Dh supervised three lots of homework for ds2
Ds1 screamed a lot after returning from outing...and refused to do homework or said he had done it when he hadn't
Dd did her homework on Friday night and is now straightening her hair and planning to dip- dye it She comes back from school and Immediately starts getting all her school work out of the way it is quite extraordinary to watch...if she was my only child I would never understand why people get in such a twist about homework.

Only been part of this thread a week or two and I'm failing already. Too this week to do more than pick up stuff in the hall, load a dishwasher and do some washing and this afternoon, instead of catching up, I built Lego all afternoon. Literally! The kids ate late and went to bed late as I lost track of time. I'm exhausted and off to bed soon.

Need to sign up for the e-mails yet.

DontStep you are NOT falling behind, there is no falling behind on this thread! You may have paused, taken a break or be suffering from Can't Be Arsed (my favorite) but as we don't compare, there is no falling behind

I've done bugger all flying today, just rebooted laundry & kept on top of washing up. However I have finished the ball of wool, which resulted in 27 snowflakes! And my 6.5mm double ended knitting needles have arrived, so I can start on DD's wolf hat.

Oh god, didn't see that bit, DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THE EMAILS, they are never ending. There's even a Babystep to delete them
