Fledglings don't makes resolutions in January, they fly through the babysteps.

So here it is the dreaded January thread. The thread of resolutions and good intentions for the year that you are lucky if you see through to the end. Welcome to the start of 2014!!

A quick note for newbies, this is a long running thread. We do like new blood around here. However, we do ask you to be respectful that for a lot of us just getting off our arses is not going to help and to avoid suggesting this. We all know life is more complicated then this. So here we do things a little differently. A little bit of flying and a lot of chatter and moral support. Feel free to jump on board and join us in flying.

For those who are new to fly lady she recommends a three step program:

  1. Get those babysteps into a habbit
  2. Get rid of the clutter.
  3. Get that deep cleaning done.
Don't worry if you think you not doing it right but not getting up to it. Some of us have been here for years and we are still decluttering. Because clutter has a nasty way of multiplying if you take you eye off it, especailly if you have kids.

Fly lady ethos tells us a few things that I want you to remember:
No perfectism this is harder then you would imagine
You are never behind just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

So jump on board and lets get started.

Oh and I forgot the proper introductions. "I'm Bitchy and I shall be your guide to the fly lady system for January" better buckle up as things normally get a little crazy when it is my turn to take control. good luck Grin

ToffeeWhirl · 10/01/2014 16:18

Slept so long that I was late to meet a friend for coffee before the school pick-up. The kitchen is still piled up with washing up from last night and this morning. Definitely a cba day.

Swanhildapirouetting · 10/01/2014 17:22

Today has been quite nice and productive.

Finally got to grips with the dreaded playroom,
cleaned
dusted
sorted
put books away
hoovered floor

put away the washing and recycling and bins
cleaning lady made kitchen look lovely and did the bathrooms

nice chat with dh at lunchtime - thank goodness it is Friday and we don't have tomorrow is a school day-it is. We are both so tired from getting up at the crack of dawn and dealing with uptight teens! And ds1 got yet another detention for not signing his diary, he doesn't seem to care much Hmm it has become such a regular occurrence to be staying late at school.

Ds2 said he ran a cross country run today and came 55nd out of 80! He is very pleased with himself. I love that they do cross country running, nothing better for the soul of the grumpiestt teenager. And he is in a good mood as a result, and pleased that all his walking to the tube has made him fitter. (he is still very podgy though)

Now all three children are sitting in front of tv watching The Dumping Ground.

Swanhildapirouetting · 10/01/2014 17:24

Toffee Dh went back to sleep this afternoon - he has finally realised he can just have a nap if he wants and then work later in the evening. He has stuck pretty rigidly to what might call a working day for the last year, but this morning's early start has knocked him out.

BitchytheGreat · 10/01/2014 18:34

I remember when you were worrying about Ds2' fitness and planning exciting activities whilst you were away in the summer for him to be a boy and scupper them. You must be so relieved Swan

I have hit cbaitis, so currently have a hook and working on the squares for working towards killing of blanket2 of blanketgate. Fed up of it cluttering up the place now. Got a few other in progress projects that are also annoying me so want to get them done. Considering training tonight but not sure that i can be arsed to move. Training seems like far too much effort!

Personally I am skipping date night tonight. Hope you all enjoy yourselves!

Just a quick one, not much flying done above the absolute basics, I had a course this morning (communication skills, desperately needed before I (hopefully!) go on interviews next year when I start job hunting), doctor's visit (poor DS got kicked in the face at preschool :( ), a no tv day and a case of CBAness has not helped!
Hope everyone's ok :)

ToffeeWhirl · 10/01/2014 20:25

Under strict instructions not to go anywhere near DH at present.

BitchytheGreat · 10/01/2014 20:35

Toffee ma dear, may I suggest you do something nice for you in that case?

I gave up with the idea of moving, and still working on the blanketgate. I think it might be nice to get rid of this damm project. Taking it easy with pinterest reading and some tv watchin in the same go. I think that I might try to get some laundry done in the same go. Would be useful so i can have clothes tomo. Hopefully i will get the links posted tonight at some point before mn crashes...

How are the unspoken new years resolutions going fledglings?

elliepac · 10/01/2014 20:47

Evening all.

Well have done no flying whatsoever. Just got in from dniece's family birthday party and cba even though house is a tip.

toffee I agree with bitchySmile

whoknows i get the principle behind vertical tutor groups but from what I hear from colleagues in other school you end up with 5 different groups of children with different needs who don't really talk to each other. Year 11 have such different needs to Year 7 I don't see how you can cater for both properly. But, as I say, some swear by it so maybe I am wrong.

swan DS voluntarily did a x-country in his lunchtime todayShock. He is not the sporty type at all and is also a little on the heavy side. Said he wanted to get fitter bless him.

I hope all of you with poorly dc's or poorly yous are feeling better

Am going to retire to the sofa and Silent Witness. Have a good evening everyone.

ToffeeWhirl · 10/01/2014 21:30

Can't go out either because I'm babysitting for DH and DC. But am going to watch episode 2 of 'Sherlock' with a glass of wine - does that count?

BitchytheGreat · 10/01/2014 21:31

Oh yes. That counts Grin

OP posts:
elliepac · 10/01/2014 22:05

That definitely counts Smile

WhispersOfWickedness · 10/01/2014 22:26

No FF going on in this house. My one and only new year's resolution is not going well Sad

GoingGoingGoth · 10/01/2014 22:36

Just sneaking in to say I really CBAed today, I need some sunlight to perk me up. Sad

BlueEyeshadow · 10/01/2014 23:03

No flying yet again, but too much work rather than CBA.

Did those snowflakes last year, WhoKnows - was fun and went down well with people as extra little Christmas presents too.

Toffee - sounds like there's hope with the method then. DS2 is 4 and v stubborn so I suspect it'll take a looooong time to work on him!

giraffeseatpineapples · 10/01/2014 23:50

Must have been something in the air today, glad it wasn't just me, love cbaitus as a term, also more polite Blush

We went out for dinner with the children, and dp and i shared a bottle of cheap wine. Felt fine at the time but we have basically both conked out on the sofa and been asleep all evening (once children safely tucked up in bed of course). Going to have an early night (ie before midnight) and hopefuly tackle things including mount washmore tomorrow.

Night everyone

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/01/2014 23:59

Well, a bit of CBAitis here tonight too. I spent most of today making DD's birthday cake (pic on profile). However when I started clearing up I got frustrated at the state of my kitchen cupboards and had a mini clear out of old stuff, so not too bad.

DH fetched fish and chips in his way home from work, and then without having to be asked emptied the Dw, cleared the plates, ran the vac round while I watched TV with the DCs. Please remind me about this next time I am having a moan. We watched that Kangaroo Dundee programme - anyone watching it? About a man who fosters orphaned kangaroos and wallabies. DS and I felt quite emotional when he released some of them back into the wild. DD didn't get the fact that he would never see them again and shrugged it off. DS knew. Then we started watching a programme about Italy, featuring Genoa where we went last summer, again DS was fascinated. It's lovely being able to watch grownup programmes with them now they are a bit older.

Right, said I would be in bed by midnight

BitchytheGreat · 11/01/2014 00:21

It's the weekend No Missions

Saturday is family fun day. mine is going to involve a lot of kids so family hell day it is then

Erm oh yeah, decluttering 15mins worth, and the babystep which is probably something important or just twee speak. one mo... ... a lot of us skip this one

OP posts:
ToffeeWhirl · 11/01/2014 00:55

Bitchy - Seeing 'No missions' reminds me of the titles of DS2's Lego films: Mishon 1, Mishon 2, etc. Grin I haven't had the heart to correct him yet.

Oh, and why so many DC tomorrow? Good luck anyway.

I agree about the pleasure of watching more grown-up programmes with the DC, WhoKnows. I don't miss the days of Cbeebies at all. DS1 joined us in watching 'Sherlock' tonight. Oh, and well done on that fab cake Smile.

Blue - my DS2 is very stubborn too. Not sure where he gets it from . He refused to eat his pasta tonight (I'd used tinned tomatoes with added herbs for the vegetable sauce, which he must have detected - normally I use plain tinned tomatoes), but I told him he couldn't have anything else apart from fruit, so he ate a bit of orange, but said it was 'too hard'. So, two fails tonight, but I will persist.

Now it's past my bedtime, I'm wide awake. That's the trouble with catching up on sleep in the daytime. Am going to enjoy a little MN surf whilst I drink my hot chocolate, then go to bed. Am so relieved it's the weekend again. Let's hope it's not as dramatic as last weekend.

dizzyday07 · 11/01/2014 01:13

Pretty lazy day here too!

Ta Da

  • DD to early morning training
  • DD late for school (10 mins) as caught up in traffic coming out of town (only 1 back road open due to flooding)
  • Bedding washed and hung to dry
  • Washing load in and hung to dry
  • Empty recycling bin
  • Empty D/W
  • DD to afternoon training (gala on Sunday!)

DH and I realised last night that today is the 14th anniversary of our first date so decided on a curry out for tea tonight (bang goes the diets!) It was a new place that has opened and the food was nice but we couldn't finish it all. DD wolfed down 2 of the After Eights given with the bill and promptly threw these and her dinner up the moment we were home! [barf] She took about an hour to settle but went off to sleep in the end. Hopefully it was just the result of too much indulgence and nothing else.

Who your cake is awesome!

dizzyday07 · 11/01/2014 01:14

Oh and how can I forget I scaled Ironing Mountain including a pile of clothes going to a friend's DD!

Merrybuddha · 11/01/2014 07:48

AngryAngryAngry Seems to have hit a bug!! I haven't been able to post on MN for the last 24 hrs, via my iPad. Still not sorted AngryAngryAngry

Bitchy, resolution are going well. Have not had a drinkWine, stuck to no caffeineBrew, managed to say no (which was excellent as the child I was asked to look after started throwing up). Getting up early everyday. Back on the fitness. Healthy eating still needs working on.

Yesterday Ta da, was morning routine and evening routine, more Cub planning. A whole morning dog walk.
Cooked a special Beef dinner (I don't eat Beef) for everyone else, no one liked it except hubby, so most went in the bin Sad. The dc ended up eating my spicy Soup instead!!

Today's plan is Homework this morning and Rolling skating this afternoon (Hubby is at work, so it just the dc and me).

CallingAllEngels · 11/01/2014 08:55

Morning all.
Was a lazy day here yesterday. The only things I managed were supermarket run, chicken stew for dinner and washing up. Managed 5 epusodes of Doctor Who though!

DS us heading to ILs w I th DS this morning and I'm painting the cellar.
