So here it is the dreaded January thread. The thread of resolutions and good intentions for the year that you are lucky if you see through to the end. Welcome to the start of 2014!!

A quick note for newbies, this is a long running thread. We do like new blood around here. However, we do ask you to be respectful that for a lot of us just getting off our arses is not going to help and to avoid suggesting this. We all know life is more complicated then this. So here we do things a little differently. A little bit of flying and a lot of chatter and moral support. Feel free to jump on board and join us in flying.

For those who are new to fly lady she recommends a three step program:

  1. Get those babysteps into a habbit
  2. Get rid of the clutter.
  3. Get that deep cleaning done.
Don't worry if you think you not doing it right but not getting up to it. Some of us have been here for years and we are still decluttering. Because clutter has a nasty way of multiplying if you take you eye off it, especailly if you have kids.

Fly lady ethos tells us a few things that I want you to remember:
No perfectism this is harder then you would imagine
You are never behind just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

So jump on board and lets get started.

Oh and I forgot the proper introductions. "I'm Bitchy and I shall be your guide to the fly lady system for January" better buckle up as things normally get a little crazy when it is my turn to take control. good luck Grin

I thought the same thing Honu - it's only 6am on the 1st and we are already 2 pages in, good start ladies :)

Welcome aboard to all the newbies - we chat a lot but a little housework gets done and the underlying system is sound if you ignore the barftastic language and some of the more bonkers Babysteps :)

HAPPY NEW YEAR to one and all. I hope 2014 brings you what you want.
For me that would include DD getting her choice of High school and settling in well come September and to have a much more decluttered house that finally, after 11 years, feels like mine too (it's DH's childhood home)

I am currently up after 4 hours sleep because bl**dy girlcat brought us a mouse as a New Year present Angry Have chased her out and locked catflap until its gone but now I'm awake Angry Angry

dizzy - sorry your NYE was not good.
Ours was 'quiet' inspite of letting DC stay up for the first time - DH keeled over at 11.30 and took himself to bed, DS was in tears by midnight as he was so tired his head hurt then DD(10) and I sat up until 1am watching Jules Holland and talking about music and the things 2014 will bring :)

I am going to attempt to return to bed. Catch up later when the thread has gone into it's New Year frenzy.

feetheart · 01/01/2014 06:26

And of course I forgot to add the most important bit Blush - a HUGE thank you to Goth for leading the December thread and Bitchy for volunteering for January Thanks Thanks

StuntNun · 01/01/2014 06:33

Please may I join. My sink ain't shiny and I don't even own a feather duster but I'm in desperate need of some decluttering of my house can I get rid of the hoarders themselves first?

DorisShutt · 01/01/2014 06:47

Morning ladies (and any lurking gents!) Smile

A happy new year to everyone, and thanks to Bitchy for leading us through this month & Goth for last month even if I didn't quite make it!

I'm resolute that 2014 will be the year I sort myself out. House and (like Honu) myself. Smaller portions, a definite increase in activity, and a trip to the GP's to sort out my body.

However, DS has been up since 5.15am, and I only went to bed at 1.30am so today will be interesting!

Still have guests (he leaves tomorrow Sad ) so not much doing today I don't think other than the sink shining and keeping on top of the dishes.

Hope you all have a lovely day!

AliceinWinterWonderland · 01/01/2014 07:20

Oooooh not much sleep tonight. Flying very little today. I suspect I may not get off the runway. Grin I'll do what I can. I find on these kind of days, if I post a list, I feel overwhelmed and hide from it. But if I just sneak little things in here and there throughout the day, I actually get a fair bit done. We shall see.

Happy 2014 to all.

Coming back to join you as moved house on Sunday and determined to get organised again this year Smile

Just restarting the babysteps again. Did the sink bleaching thing yesterday, so all I need to do today is shine sink. Bbl

EustaciaVye · 01/01/2014 08:14

Morning all. Smile

LonelyGoatherd · 01/01/2014 08:16

Morning all, I used to post here under a different name, and would love to come back. 2013 was a crazy year ("two under two" sums it up neatly), but we were v lucky to have a cleaner. Can no longer afford or justify it, so I need to get scrubbing...
Will make a start by checking out the links please god don't let it be Bathroom week.

hootloop · 01/01/2014 08:24

I want to follow flylady I have tried before but only ever manage 2 or 3 days before she tells me to put my lace up shoes on. Well I don't own lace up shoes and even if I did I never wear them in the house nor will I.

WhispersOfWickedness · 01/01/2014 08:45

Morning all, happy new year :o Wine

I have had a lovely lie in and after I have finished here, am going to hot foot it to the bathroom and start flying as I mean to go on this year :o

Hootloop - that is the one I always ignore, as we are a shoes off house, and I am not buying a pair of shoes just to do housework in! I do always make sure I'm dressed though and do feel it makes a difference :)

Hello to all the new people

EustaciaVye · 01/01/2014 08:56

Shoes on is a red herring. It means be up and dressed and able to put rubbish out at a moments notice Grin

DontstepontheBaubles · 01/01/2014 08:59

Thanks for the welcome. . I need to get out off the sofa now my coffee is finished and start tidying. Start as I mean to go on. I've been so lax this last 6 months. My little home needs some serious tlc Blush

MercuryRising · 01/01/2014 09:16

BitchytheGreat · 01/01/2014 09:24

Good Morning. I hope that you are avoiding the dreeded hangover and that the dc let you sleep to a reasonable time.

Today is the first. So we kick off with the shining of our sinks. Yep babystep one is to shine your sink Nope not just to clean it but to fly lady clean it

Unusually for the beginning of the Month FLy Lady is not changing our Zone so if you have shined your sink and still feeling motivated then your next job is to spend 15mins decluttering zone 1 your porch, entrance way and dining room

For our more experienced flyers the mission is here scroll down to wednesday and ignore monday and tuesday's, remember you are NEVER behind jump in where you are!

The fat fairy really likes her sinks shiny because it is the habit of the month

As always Wednesday is antiprocrastination day. Got that job you are putting off? Get it done. You know you will feel better afterwards. And if not that is what the naughty corner bar is for...

Right because i am off on my jollies shortly so double posting of steps and a very kind fledgling will respost tonight/tomo so that it doesn't get lost. Although having the op coloured so help on these threads.

The second babystep is a little contriversial. babystep It is to get dressed to your shoes. We are not going to tell you that you have to wear shoes in the house --although the fat fairy has become rather milatant on this recently. But we do suggest that you wake and get up for the day straight away. It is supposed to improve productivity.

We are in zone one for the rest of the week so spend 15mins decluttering zone 1 your porch, entrance way and dining room

For our more experienced flyers the mission is here scroll down to thursday and ignore previous days, remember you are NEVER behind jump in where you are!

The fat fairy really likes her sinks shiny because it is the habit of the month

As always is errand day. Got those things that need doing that take you out of the house? yep get it done.

Morning one and all. Welcome to all lovely newbies and welcome back to returnees.

As far as shoes off are concerned, i personally think that one is bollocks. I am at my most productive in my pj's and slippers. The whole point of this fledgling thread is to make flying work for you in the best way for you and your family. Hence I ignore lace-up shoes. I would highlight the name of the lovely new person who questioned this but am on the app and can't remember itGrin.

Plans today involve a quick tidy up this morning, a couple of loads of washing, roast dinner and some films and board games. Tomorrow is big clean up and de-xmas day so am preserving my energyWinkGrin.

Have a good day everyone.

CallingAllEngels · 01/01/2014 09:40

Oops...still in pjs, dh still inbed, have to be at ILs in 19 mins.....

hootloop · 01/01/2014 09:50

Thanks for welcoming me, and especially to whoever likened putting shoes on to being able to put the rubbish out, that works for me as I keep shoes at the front and back door.
I have cleaned the sink this morning and even DH noticed.

DontstepontheBaubles · 01/01/2014 09:59

Having read the anti procrastination day link, I think cleaning my fish tank is the top thing I put off. My tropical fish definitely need a water change. So I'll shine my sink today, clean the fish tank and try and tidy zone 1. Wish me luck.

I tend to prefer to do cleaning in an old pair of jogging bottoms and a tatty top with my hair tied back but actually getting up 15 mins before everyone and getting showered could be a huge help to me. I'm not a morning person, I sit and nurse my coffee for ages and then run out of time and end up dashing about and yelling for the kids to hurry up Blush

Feels a bit over whelming reading all the baby steps. I should have read no further than day 2 only.

BitchytheGreat · 01/01/2014 10:01

As far as the shoes are concerned, I'm rarely in lace up shoes. I tend to wear slipper socks and have my cheap knock-off crocs by the door in case I need to take rubbish out or go outside for any reason. I don't generally wear my pjs during the day, although the DCs do it fairly frequently on weekends or holidays (and today).
