So here it is the dreaded January thread. The thread of resolutions and good intentions for the year that you are lucky if you see through to the end. Welcome to the start of 2014!!

A quick note for newbies, this is a long running thread. We do like new blood around here. However, we do ask you to be respectful that for a lot of us just getting off our arses is not going to help and to avoid suggesting this. We all know life is more complicated then this. So here we do things a little differently. A little bit of flying and a lot of chatter and moral support. Feel free to jump on board and join us in flying.

For those who are new to fly lady she recommends a three step program:

  1. Get those babysteps into a habbit
  2. Get rid of the clutter.
  3. Get that deep cleaning done.
Don't worry if you think you not doing it right but not getting up to it. Some of us have been here for years and we are still decluttering. Because clutter has a nasty way of multiplying if you take you eye off it, especailly if you have kids.

Fly lady ethos tells us a few things that I want you to remember:
No perfectism this is harder then you would imagine
You are never behind just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
It didn't get into a mess overnight, it won't get tidy over night accept it will take time to get on top of things and you will be happier.

So jump on board and lets get started.

Oh and I forgot the proper introductions. "I'm Bitchy and I shall be your guide to the fly lady system for January" better buckle up as things normally get a little crazy when it is my turn to take control. good luck Grin

Stupid phone! Wanted to say I'm in and happy new year to all the lovely fledglings.

DontstepontheBaubles · 31/12/2013 22:19

Can I join?

Lone parent, two kids and I live in a 2 bed flat. The clutter is gaining momentum and I used to be so tidy pre divorce and kids, but these days with work and everything else it's all getting on top of me. Perhaps this thread will help me to get back on track.

NickNacks · 31/12/2013 22:21

Hello lovelies!

Bitchy may I respectfully say that you are just the right fledgling to handle January :)

See you in the morning, happy new year :)

BitchytheGreat · 31/12/2013 22:24

Welcome Don'tstep. I shall post the links for tomo later. The first babysteps ease you in gently.

Welcome Dontstep

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 31/12/2013 22:59

Hello! Happy New Year!

GoingGoingGoth · 31/12/2013 23:02

Well I'm finishing the year just how I spent it-lounging in front of the tv whilst MNing, although tonight has included a number of glasses of Baileys.

So funny to see your typos Bitchy that's my job.

Have sent DD back to bed, I swear there's some kind of bat signal in her room that goes off when I ring my parents. She was swaying with tiredness when she just happened to have to get up Hmm

Hello Don'tstep

GossipWitch · 31/12/2013 23:07

Marking my place, I have only made 3 resolutions this year, 1 to keep on top of things, 2 lose weight, 3 get pregnant hopefully !

BitchytheGreat · 31/12/2013 23:16

we're going to need to stock up the naughty corner bar by the end of the evening aren't we Grin Until then enjoy the Wine and remember some water before bed to help stave of the hangover. I am looking forward to tales of excitement from the fledglings having had a very quiet evening.

I'd like to start flying in 2014. I seem to be a clutter magnet. And a slacker for keeping up with ongoing threads. Confused

elliepac · 01/01/2014 00:25

Testing, testing....

ChestnutsroastingintheFireligh · 01/01/2014 00:27

Happy NewYear folks.

ToffeeWhirl · 01/01/2014 01:51

Happy New Year fledglings. Thanks for the new thread, Bitchy. And thanks for steering us so expertly through such a busy month, Goth.

BitchytheGreat · 01/01/2014 02:24

Well that was exciting. Thanks Ellie for seeing if you could post for me. There was a great balls up and all posters were blocked from posting from the main site. It kicked off a bit. Will post the links when I get up in a few hours as hopefully by then the fly lady will have sorted itself out. It seems to be a little drunk stuck in 2013 atm.

And welcome to the Newbies and returners. I shall be away the evening of the first but one of the wise Fledgelings will about to answer questions and give advice if you need it.

Well that was a great start to 2014!

All of us crowded round the TV to count down with Big Ben and let off party poppers at the allotted time. Then of course is the customary round of kisses and hugs and "Happy New Years". DH didn't bother to try get off the couch so that I was the first he kissed etc, and I even wanted to wait to kiss DD until I kissed DH but his Dads wife caught me first as I was just standing there like a lemon! We then all joined hands and sang Auld Lang Syne except DH who said he couldnt join in as he had a drink in his hand!!! :(

He tried afterwards to apologise but I was so annoyed with him that I didnt want to listen to any pathetic excuse he had. We have had a tough year and I was determined to try to get some closeness back but now I am not sure I can be bothered! I couldnt even crawl away to bed after his brother asked me if he was ok and his neice asked why he didnt join in as I was being the taxi to take his Dad home!

He is now snoring away after instantly falling asleep whereas I am wide awake as any stress/upset sends my limited sleep capacity down to zero.

Honu · 01/01/2014 05:32

It is not yet 5.30am and I can't even get on the first page!

Happy New Year to all of you.

Thank you Goth for last month, your roundups were fantastic, and I look forward to Bitchy's inimitable style of thread leadership. Meanwhile I'm starting on the coffee.

Oh yes, and once again I'm attempting to reduce portion size and hence reduce the size of Honu.
