Evening all.

I don't think I've had a very good day today!

Sad
educatingarti · 19/05/2012 19:25

All I seem to have done is teach ( suppose that is something) , find out just how expensive it is going to be to buy another car [eek], sleep and spill an entire cup of tea in the kitchen. The floor is still sticky despite washing it and I even got it inside the kitchen drawers! Shock

Also my Dad is in hospital. He was due to have surgery yesterday, but they cancelled as it got too late in the day so then if was supposed to be this morning. Then they got too many emergencies in (and it is not looking good for tomorrow either apparently) so it may be Monday before he gets his op. I'm just hoping they don't send him home because the hospital is 30 miles from where my parents live and it is a major stress for my Mum to get him there!

Feeling very [bleurgh] and Sad and [headache]

carrotsandcelery · 19/05/2012 21:02

Aww Arti that sounds awful. It is stressful gearing yourself up for these things and then when they are on, off, on, off you are left in a state of constant anxiety. Poor you!

Have you got any camomile tea? That might help to lift the headache without stopping you getting a decent rest.

I have spent most of the day dealing with the fundraiser I was involved in today. I am hoping we made a lot of money but haven't heard yet. Lots of fun was had anyway and it was really, really busy so it should have done well.

I have done very little housework but a friend phoned tonight to say she would pop in early tomorrow morning, which I am delighted about but also thinking, EEEEeeeekkk! The house is a tip.

I have had a mad half hour running around trying to put things in the right places but the guinea pigs are stinking (they should have been cleaned out this morning) and the house needs a good dust and hoover. I also can only offer fruity flapjacks or jaffa cakes to nibble. I won't have time to bake anything so they will have to do!

We're still at in-laws. MrScout's had his jamboree meeting today. Toddler's still awake. Shock Though I think it's my fault of his too late/too long nap.

educatingarti · 19/05/2012 21:28

Thanks for the sympathy Carrots! It has made me feel a bit better. Yes it is the on off stuff that gets stressful I've really coped well with the first 2 times he was supposed to have the surgery - ie not to wound up or anxious but every time it gets harder!

I'm concerned too for Dad because he may not understand why he is having to stay in hospital so long ( Mum had told him it would just be one night) and he may get really stressed. He has dementia, part of which his surgery is to treat and he doesn't understand complexities. It's a bit like having an elderly immobile 4 year old really!

I've unwound a bit now, but I think Mum may phone me later. She has been to the hospital this afternoon and I think out for a pub meal this evening ( She doesn't get much chance to do this when Dad is at home!) and I'm guessing she'll phone me later. I want to hear how Dad is, but I don't want to get wound up again!

Meanwhile, I am drinking lots of fluid (think headache may be dehydration related - I fell asleep at lunchtime before drinking my lunchtime cup of tea and didn't have anything else to drink till 6.30pm). I've done 30 mins of work, put some washing on the airer and put another load of washing on. I'm going to do another half hour of work then my physio exercises ans see where I feel I'm up to then!

carrotsandcelery · 19/05/2012 21:32

My dd has a splitting headache tonight too and I suspect hers is either dehydration or sinus related. She helped me for a long time this afternoon and then went off with her friends for a bit. The depute head saw her as she was passing the tea room and roped her in to making cups of tea etc in there for a bit. I think they may have "rewarded" her with cakes, and my friend rewarded her with a cake in the morning for getting a phone number from a shop for her, and she bought a cake... Poor kid. She must feel awful! Envy (sick not jealous!)

carrots delegate! Glad DD behaved herself today!

carrotsandcelery · 19/05/2012 21:59

She is normally a good girl bessie, particularly out of the house. That was why it was such a shock and why I came down fairly hard on her.

I definitely will delegate. The house doesn't need to be perfect but it would be nice if the guinea pigs could be cleaned out and it could be hoovered and the dishes dealt with (one hazard of having open plan living).

carrotsandcelery · 19/05/2012 23:19

I am really hungry. Is it a good idea to eat right before I go to bed or a very bad one?

I have realised I have hardly eaten anything today, despite dd's troughing. We shared a Chinese takeaway but it was a bit greasy and it put me off a bit. I have been busy the rest of the day and doing battle with a beading pattern tonight so I haven't snacked.
To eat or to go to bed...?

CamperWidow · 20/05/2012 06:31

Morning ladies!
Well, I managed abit of a one-woman whirlwind yesterday and actually managed to do some decent cleaning before the ILs descended! Muddles had a REALLY bad night so she had a major sleep so I was able to plonk Lol infront of a DVD and zoom around the house like a woman possesed! Woo hoo! Then they came early (who does that to a woman with 2 small kids???? Wink) but I was so like, hey, yeah, this is my tidy house! :o:o:o Then the MIL starts pulling out dresses and shoes and socks for the girls. She's bought them matching red, white and blue dresses for the Jubilee with matching white cardigans and Union flag socks!!! :o:o:o:o
So I now actually have little cleaning to do today! Yay! Scout what jamboree is he going for?

carrotsandcelery · 20/05/2012 08:51

It's great when it all comes together Camper. I love the sounds of the Jubilee outfits. My dd got a union flag dress for her birthday (the next one) and is planting a container with red, white and nearly blue pansies. She is just about to do some red, white and blue beading as well. We are not that "into" royalty and all that but she seems to be carried along on the Jubilympic wave this year.

I have been a mini whirlwind this morning so that I can enjoy a chat with my friend when she comes over later this morning. I am still in my pjs mind you. I should really deal with that...

morning all ive been in a flying frenzy too

carrotsandcelery · 20/05/2012 09:55

Maybe there is a hint of spring in the air zoo.

In my case I suspect it was deep shame though after faffing around so much at the end of the week. Blush

I just came through to find dd mending her own leggings which had a split seam. [proud] (not of the split seam but of the mending).

Scout19075 · 20/05/2012 10:09

Me, I've been adding to the clutter. Blush I've ordered some books/coloring books for Toddler.

CamperWidow · 20/05/2012 10:55

Well, I've carried on the good work today too!

As for the dresses, we're not really into the whole royalty thing either but the village is having a Jubilee Party on the playing fields and also we are going to be at the Cambridge Folk Festival on the opening day of the Games so they will get at least two really good wears!!!

Well done Carrots DD!!

carrotsandcelery · 20/05/2012 11:44

I am really enjoying all the red, white and blue stuff. Often it is things with the 3 lions or England logo which doesn't really appeal to 2 Scottish kids. This time it feels like all of us together which is much more fun.

My friend has been and we have had coffee and a gossip Grin

educatingarti · 20/05/2012 12:35

Hi all

I'm still feeling a bit down and out of sorts today. I have had really long lie in, breakfast, then just chucked some clothes on without worrying about shower etc!Grin Don't worry, I intend to have one before I go to church this evening, so the smell shouldn't reach you in Scotland Carrots!

I think I'm up for making some more quinoa burgers next ( now I've worked out how much egg to put in and the best way to cook them!)

I've got loads of things I should do, but I'm not sure how much will get done. I think I've got to be really careful not to end up angry with myself for having a lie in (I suspect it was much needed!). I tend to let myself have "time off" then berate myself for not doing all the stuff I could have done in that time!!

OK, off to put a load in the washer and cook and then see what happens after that ( apart from eating of course!!)

CatsSleepAnywhere · 20/05/2012 12:45

Hi all, I am hoping I have reached a turning point as I have made a start on tidying! Grin I feel o.k. apart from my cold. I still need to have lunch.

DD is putting on a display of toddler tantrum! Hmm

CatsSleepAnywhere · 20/05/2012 12:49

DH is letting DD try to play the Xbox. Shock Hmm. I think it's a bit too hard for a 3 year old!!

carrotsandcelery · 20/05/2012 13:12

We got our wii when ds was 3 and he couldn't do it at all. He is the expert now but didn't really get into it until he was about 5.

Arti it might help to timetable in your breaks. It is a problem with working from home. I feel guilty when I take a break.

Dh points out that if I was at work I would have a tea break, lunch break, break when the kids left school and then a break once I came home from school before I started marking in the evening.

He has a break every half hour and walks to the water cooler or similar as he does a desk job. He has a definite lunch break etc.

It is not healthy at all to work constantly or for your time off to be spent feeling guilty that you are not working.

Do you need a boost of vitamin C or some sunshine/vitamin D maybe. I think I would normally have been outside a lot more by this time in the year.

Cats hopefully you are beginning to level out. Work your way up gradually so you don't burn out.

OP posts:
CatsSleepAnywhere · 20/05/2012 13:19

I am aiming to get downstairs to a fairly tidy level today (with breaks when I need them). I also need to do more washing.
We might go out later, the weather is lovely here today! Smile

carrotsandcelery · 20/05/2012 13:30

Getting out in the sunshine will definitely be a good idea Cats - the vitamin d will boost your energy levels.

I am popping in and out. I am not staying out long as I don't want to put on suncream and I burn really quickly and easily (strawberry blonde)

OP posts:
educatingarti · 20/05/2012 15:23

Thanks for that advice Carrots. I need to think about the issues you raise and see how it might work for me. I think one problem is that I don't actually have a full day off except for Sundays, and that is often busy with church commitments. This has never been a problem in the past though ans I've been tutoring like this for years! You are right though, I need to plan things a bit more probably.

I have done some more quinoa burgers ( too wet again even with only 2 eggs!!) and I have a load of washing spinning and the 3rd load of burgers cooking in the oven. I can only cook 4 at a time as I am using my only yorkshire pudding tin and it only has 4 dents!
A friend phoned and it was nice to chat. I'm going ot have another cup of tea and then take out rubbish, put the washing out to dry etc. it is very cloudy here, not sunny at all!

If it was sunny I would go out and sit with my cup of tea for 15 minutes!!

I burn really easily too Carrots and I find bright sunlight really affects my eyes and can give me headaches! Not strawberry blonde, but blonde with grey/blue eyes and very pale skin. I'm so pale that even when I burn ( which I don't do on purpose obviously) I still only look mildly pink, even though it is still extremely painful!!
