Fledgling flyers - it's the month of May: if your house is a mess, try the Flylady way

Welcome to the May Fledgling Flyers' thread. A very big thank you to WhoKnows for guiding us through last month.

Are you living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome)? Flylady's routines aim to help you take control of your home, tidying and decluttering and setting up daily and weekly routines that keep your home looking presentable. On this thread, we do our best to follow these routines (although we also chat quite a lot and sometimes forget why we're here Blush).

There are three methods of the Flylady system, depending on whether you are new to it or have been following it for a while:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering in current zone
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

Today's babystep is to shine your sink.

feedme just a suggestion, but have you tried your local auction house for furniture? If they do house clearances then you can often pick up good quality stuff relatively cheaply - I wouldn't recommend soft furnishings, but you can often get nice wood tables and chairs.

We need chairs for our kitchen now DS is starting to eat properly so will be popping down to our local auction and keeping an eye out.

foad · 14/05/2012 11:44

Morning all!

feedme/carpe I asked the children to choose a colour each and then painted our mismatched chairs pastel(ish) versions of their chosen colours. Now the chairs all match in a mis-matched shabby-chic kind of way...

flying hope you are snuggled up snoozing and looking forward to Butlins. Imagine if you had to call your babies after where they were conceived! Hugs x

Jobs for today:
Administer medicine to sick child (hoping she's better by Friday when she's meant to be going on school PGL trip ...)
Find supper
Washing (all clean washing away in this house nowGrin)
Bathroom - we are in the bathroom aren't we...

Lets get started with a Brew Wink

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 14/05/2012 12:01

Baby Bognor Regis! Hmmm. Sorry about the arrival of AF this time Flying, hope you are feeling better today.

I'm just having a break in my pared down home blessing. It's raining (again). I have to sort out some paperwork for a meeting in an hour, so better get on, just wanted to check in after being AWOL for a few days.

feedmecake · 14/05/2012 12:37

Carpe, thanks, yes, I'm a big fan of our auction house and most of our stuff has come from there. In a way, that's the problem though - I buy it with the intention of tarting it up but don't get round to it. I have a lovely old wing back that I've had for ages, but it needs a new cover really. Also I need to make new cushions to make our lounge a little more feminine. I've got the material stashed away somewhere - just need the time to get on with it.

But not yet - I've still got lots of cleaning to do first.
Today I will...

jabs and she screamed blue murder and then fell promptly asleep
dentist
finish cleaning bathroom
--birthday present for DH
buy baby monitor--
clean bin lids
repair broken sofa
post letters
arrange to have our windows cleaned
administrivia

feetheart · 14/05/2012 12:56

Hmmm - baby Amsterdam (possibly. Its a bit vague as I didn't know I was pregnant until I was 15 weeks Shock Blush) and baby Sofa. DS does have the dubious honour of being conceived and born in the exactly the same place - not sure I'm ever going to share that gem with him though Blush

TMI for a Monday, back to the accounts now.

Flyingwithoutwings · 14/05/2012 13:05

Curled up with hottie (bottle, not man Wink)
Feel dreadful.
Must wash up at least Blush
Will try and do some ironing (at least work clothes).
Have warned DH that I can't even stand atm and he'll have to buy essentials tonight Sad

sanguinechompa · 14/05/2012 14:48

Poor you Flying x

CarpeJugulum · 14/05/2012 14:55

Snurk at feetheart and the sofa.

mine is a very unadventurous baby bed Blush

BlueEyeshadow · 14/05/2012 14:56

((Hugs)) Brew and Biscuit to flying.

Waves to Linzer and SC - good to "see" you!

Done no flying today, but parents have gone home so can reclaim house... Took DS2 out for a walk to fall asleep as he was plainly knackered and now it's time to go out again. I've bruised my heel - annoying but not serious.

Big waves to all. Will get the kettle on for after school run. Brew for anyone else??

BitchyInTheCorner · 14/05/2012 15:42

Miss havin you on the thread linzer but can understand about the time constraints. :(

I have done some errands and been out in the hills. now I am absolutely shattered. Should try to be productive but i think a quick nap is in order. Blush

swanthingafteranother · 14/05/2012 17:13

today I have achieved the following Grin

builder put new catflap in (old one broken by dogs/kids)
builder put new loo seat in (old one was impossible to clean and crashed down on all little boys)
bought some plants and catflap and loo seat
went to B & Q for above
went to rubbish dump
cleaned out litter tray
tidied three kids' rooms prior to cleaner hoovering them/changed sheets
boiled eggs for snacks
dealt with builder all day - end is nigh!
rung mum who says she does not need me to stay night tonight, which makes things a bit less hectic

SC go for it! All pets are a lovely nuisance

and I am EXHAUSTED. early start as usual to get ds1 off to school and never quite catch up later...this time of day I run out of steam, need to reschedule quiet time between two and three Hmm

feedmecake · 14/05/2012 18:13

I've been useless today in the end. I fell asleep on the sofa with baby and stayed there for two hours. Then had a filling done so everyone is having trouble with their teeth here. Nevermind. There's always tomorrow.

NickNacks · 14/05/2012 18:17

My name is NickNacks and I am shit at keeping up with this thread.

Sorry

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 14/05/2012 18:21

Evening all,

After raining all afternoon it's turned sunny again now, which is nice. Just about to go and prise the DCs away from the telly and start the evening routine. Quite a productive day so far.

Ta-da!

Morning routine
School run
Pop to Sainsburys
Pilates class
hoover downstairs
Clean kitchen, sweep floor etc
4 lots of washing
Change sheets on spare bed
Clean bathroom including floor
Meeting at school
School run x 2 (DD at a club)
Tea for DCs made
Packed lunches made

SC - our neighbours have just acquired two rabbits, they look gorgeous, I see their girls caring for them out of my bedroom window in the mornings. Their Dad is extremely garden-proud, so I will await with interest, they are letting them out on the lawn. My DCs would love a pet, but DH and I are reluctant, especially me, I've never had anything other than a goldfish and I am not in the least bit interested TBH. Just seems like a lot more cost and palaver!

I'd better go, back later.

Engelsmeisje · 14/05/2012 19:01

sorry to hear youre news flying

work today so not a lot of flying, but house was tip-top for MIL this morning Smile

Couldn't find my necklace that I wore yesterday when I was getting dreesed and all I could hear in my head was, "a place for everythign and everything in it's place"....unfortunately, I put it down rather than putting it away last night!

FL is really making a difference, even though I haven't had much time for decluttering yet. I'm really sticking to my morning and evening routines, including leaving downstairs tidy before I go to bed, washing-up after brekkie and dinner and doing a load of washing everyday. I feel like everything is slowly coming under control and have managed to do a little bit of decluttering some clothes and a stack of magazines in the last 2 weeks).

am feeling supersleepy this eve. ready to start flying bright and early tomorrow Smile

PositiveAttitude · 14/05/2012 20:21

Hi Nicknacks (and everyone else)

My name is PositiveAttitude and I am shit not very good, but more polite than NN Grin at keeping up with this thread.

Sorry Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 14/05/2012 20:53

Time to open up the bar in the naughty corner I think

DCs are supposedly in bed but I can hear them chatting, they are such night owls. A bit of a problem tonight, DD went to a party yesterday with about 20 girls from her year at school, they came out with glittery tattoos on their hands, most of which were still in place at school today. They were told to remove them by tomorrow - easier said than done. So, we have tried a long bath, soap and water, vaseline and a hot flannel, exfoliating stuff, eye make-up remover and finally shifted most of it with nail varnish remover, poor DD. She was fine about it but I think her hand might be a bit tender tomorrow!

I am going to take myself upstairs with a drink and my crochet and watch 56 Up, see you all tomorrow, hope all the poorly/tired ones amongst you feel better then.

NickNacks · 14/05/2012 21:06

Ha ha PA - sorry for the bad language Blush

It's do hard isn't it? My main problem is i mainly lurk on my phone and I find it a lot of effort to actually post on it. How's things with you? :)

flying sorry to hear about the bfn but I have my fingers crossed for you next month.

Waves to everyone- golden oldies and new faces alike! :)

I have a quick list for tomorrow - still minding so it all depends on naps and pre-school hours!

Clean bathroom
Mop kitchen
15 mins in boys room
Weed front garden yuk!

BitchyInTheCorner · 14/05/2012 21:10

Hi PA and NickNacks. I am Bitchy and I am shit at flying and spend too much in the naughty corner. If i spent less time in the naughty corner over the last nearly 3 years I might have a house rather then a bomb site. I use talking shit and posting questionable things on my ta da list to cover this fact up BlushGrin

BitchyInTheCorner · 14/05/2012 21:18

To do list:
Up and out
Fill in ds' reading record
early training
Ds' bedding
my training stuff
Paperwork - school and stuff for meeting wed.
School run and do something with ds
Evening training.
erm something else that I can't remember atm.

Bloody hell it is that late already? night night!

CarpeJugulum · 14/05/2012 21:41

WhoKnows get some Swarfega in for the next time. I have bad memories of glittery tattoos after a hen night

Anyway, didn't do much flying today, but I have been swimming this evening after DS went to bed. I feel pleasantly achy, and remarkably tranquil. May have to do it more regularly!

Flyingwithoutwings · 14/05/2012 22:10

Evening ladies.
DH has been an absolute star (very rare, he thought I was pg too so think he's actually worried that this might be a mc):
He didn't go to the gym (not much arm twisting needed there)
Told me to lie down while he entertained DS Shock
Took DS to MacDonalds for tea Blush
Took him shopping in B&Q, Halfords and Sains
Bathed him Shock

Meanwhile I made & ate my tea
Washed up
Started ironing.... And finished it 2.5 hrs later Grin

I am Confused about DH, he's NEVER been this helpful... If it carries on I shall NOT be filing a missing persons report, I like this one much more Wink

ToffeeWhirl · 14/05/2012 23:39

Aw, that's a nice Dh you have there at the moment, Flying. I hope it lasts!

Linzer - good to see you popping in. We miss you, you know, but do understand about the amount of time MN can swallow up.

I'm too sleepy to do PMs or a round up tonight, but here are tomorrow's instructions from Flylady:

Babystep, Day 14: how to use a calendar Confused. (I find it hard to believe anyone here doesn't know this).

Tuesday's mission is in the bathroom and the daily routines are listed here too.

Kid's challenge is here.

Sorry, falling asleep here, but waves to all.
