Fledgling flyers - it's the month of May: if your house is a mess, try the Flylady way

Welcome to the May Fledgling Flyers' thread. A very big thank you to WhoKnows for guiding us through last month.

Are you living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome)? Flylady's routines aim to help you take control of your home, tidying and decluttering and setting up daily and weekly routines that keep your home looking presentable. On this thread, we do our best to follow these routines (although we also chat quite a lot and sometimes forget why we're here Blush).

There are three methods of the Flylady system, depending on whether you are new to it or have been following it for a while:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering in current zone
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

Today's babystep is to shine your sink.

Sorry, that is actually tomorrow's babystep as we start on the first of the month. Never mind though - no harm in starting a day early Smile.

i will shine my sink tomorrow. i will shine my sink tomorrow. i will shine my sink tomorrow.

feetheart · 30/04/2012 17:40

Oooo, me first :) That will be a first, I usually sneak in about 3-4 days into the month.

Thank you SO much Whoknows for April and to Toffee for taking over May. I know I should offer at some point but seem to duck in and out too often to be very reliable. Maybe I should start with holiday cover!

feetheart · 30/04/2012 17:43

Rats, beaten to it :)

Welcome IAmBooyhoo If you can chat more then as much as you can Fly you are in the right place.

IAmBooyhoo · 30/04/2012 17:49

thank you.

ToffeeWhirl · 30/04/2012 17:50

Welcome, IAmBooyhoo. You can shine your sink tonight too, if you like Wink.

ToffeeWhirl · 30/04/2012 19:02

Fair enough, IAmBooyhoo Smile.

Thanks, Blue.

Went away from this for ages, but can't understand what zone are we in? Is it master bedroom or lounge?

MushroomSoup · 30/04/2012 19:28

I'm in! I've been not as slovenly good over the last few weeks and I'm remembering a few basics!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/04/2012 20:18

It was lounge today, Zone 5, but changes to Zone 1 (porch, hall and dining room) tomorrow for the start of the month.

thewaffler · 30/04/2012 22:10

Wtf is going on with mn? Had got settled at diningroom table with laptop and Brew only to be told it was offline, it happened last night too - or is it just me?

Marking my spot for May and thanks in advance to toffee for keeping us in check and huge well done to whoknows for making sense of my waffle.

No time to post now, my main news is - I'm going back to work tomorrow - rubbish, mat leave flew by. Also anticipate that it will have a big knock on effect on flying, although at least I won't be in the house to messy it up

Looking forward on reading updates, will be a routine I continue from mat leave and hopefully will find it comforting!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 30/04/2012 22:16

It's been driving me nuts Waffler, it feels like every time I've gone to post the links this week it has played up. Good luck with work tomorrow.

I had quite a productive day today, in between all the various appointments and 3 school runs, got most of the home blessing done and went for a run. Home blessing was made so much easier by having cracked the whip at the DCs over tidying last night. When I got back from my run tonight DS was busy making a list of all his tasks, bless him.

I didn't shine my sink though .

BitchyInTheCorner · 30/04/2012 23:11

MN has been broken an awful lot recently.

Mashoosive thanks to whoknows for looking after us last month Thanks

Thank you toffee for taking over the thread.

Hoping for a productive day tomo. But must sleep. Sleep before midnight is a bit of a novalty around here. One which needs to become more common.

Productive days to you all.

BitchyInTheCorner · 30/04/2012 23:44

Need a list.

Ds' up and ready for school predict it to be loud and cross exchange
Remind ds of tv/computer ban as above
Up and functioning
Remove turf
load of washing
Iron craft project.
check measurements.
Cut blocks
figure out what to do with wrongly cut blocks done tonight
URGENT paper work
tackle my room
put my clothes away
finish packing ds' bag for weekend's trip
unload dw
reload dw
washing up
make up new batch of Jelly
stitch button on bag
make loop for fastening
label trousers no idea how these escaped being labelled
Load car for tip run.

could add loads more to that list but then not only would it become scarey but also unachievable

Reserves seat in the naughty corner.

night.

I will be good this month, I will be good this month, I will be good this month. If I say it enough times it may come trueBlushGrin.

I was beyond crap last month and to be quite frank i can't see this month being better. The next 7 weeks or so is silly time at work trying to get pupils ready for the exam, coursework marking and parents evenings, starting tonight with year 10 parents evening.

whoknows thanks for last month. You did a marvellous job as usual. And i will say now i am quite happy to do June, about time i took my turn again. Might motivate me to actually do somethingGrin.

For now i shall assume, as toffee indicated earlier up the threadGrin, my rightful place in the naughty corner and plan the occasional foray into the fly world when I can be arsed have the timeGrin.

Welcome to booyhoo. i love chatting flying on this threadGrin. I hope you do tooSmile.

better go and get ready for work.

Big waves to all you lovely ladies. My ambition this month is to at least post once a day even if no flying is done. Aiming high and all thatGrin.

thewaffler · 01/05/2012 06:48

D day is here, only cried a bit last night and managed exercises this morning, clothes have been laid out, so all things considering, don't feel too bad.

Saphiesgirl · 01/05/2012 06:50

Morning, newbie to fly lady but have tried ( and failed) at this before! Lets see if I'm any more successful this time? Hopefully this thread will motivate me!!

#waves to all

Engelsmeisje · 01/05/2012 07:03

I tried to start in jan but failed miserably..am determined to do better this month!

Maybe if I write it down like bitchy I'll get something done today!

get DS up, fed and dressed
put away yesterday's washing
wash up and put away breakfast things
2 loads of washing, td and put away
sort out all the crap on the dining room table
head into town and buy all the bday cards/presents on my list
sort out music on my usb stick for listening to in the car
email best friend
start sorting out my mess of a wardrobe (bursting with pre-pg clothes that are never going to fit me again!

and if it ever stops raining...
weed path next to veg patch
think about actually planting some seeds in veg patch this year
clean outside bin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 01/05/2012 09:24

Morning and welcome to all the new/returning Flyers.

Just time for a quick Ta-da! list and then off to work

DCs up dressed and to school
My work stuff ready
Speak to other parents about arrangements for various activities after school
Swish and swipe
Clear drainer, empty DW and refill, shine sink, wipe counters
Sweep and wash kitchen floor
Clear hotspots (some)
One load of washing in.
Think about dinner. Hmm.

Back later.
