Fledgling flyers - it's the month of May: if your house is a mess, try the Flylady way

ToffeeWhirl · 30/04/2012 17:32

Welcome to the May Fledgling Flyers' thread. A very big thank you to WhoKnows for guiding us through last month.

Are you living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome)? Flylady's routines aim to help you take control of your home, tidying and decluttering and setting up daily and weekly routines that keep your home looking presentable. On this thread, we do our best to follow these routines (although we also chat quite a lot and sometimes forget why we're here Blush).

There are three methods of the Flylady system, depending on whether you are new to it or have been following it for a while:

  1. Babysteps
  2. Babysteps + 15 mins daily decluttering in current zone
  3. Babysteps + daily missions

Following the babysteps helps to establish daily routines and build a weekly plan.

Today's babystep is to shine your sink.

Right, today I must:

  • do a washing for DH & I (I've collected lots of black stuff that runs, so it can all now go in together)
  • tidy & dust living room and dining room (we may have a playdate this afternoon)
  • tidy my bedroom (historically not a hotspot, but things are migrating)
  • wipe round kitchen and lay away gadgets
  • make a chocolate cake?

This afternoon is DS's kiddy gymnastics thing, so off there, and then we may have a friend round after that, but I'm waiting to hear back from my friend - hence the chocolate sponge cake.

Half done my WAH job, but waiting for the office to open to get the rest done. DS is happy playing/half watching CBeebies Blush so he's happy; I may MNet for a bit!

laurenamium · 15/05/2012 09:13

Morning all! DD has a cough that's kept us both awake for the last few nights Sad so just a manageable list today (have extra children until 6- they are currently sleeping Smile)

Kids to rhyme time
Walk the dog- at next nap time
Dinner
Wash pots
Clean toys in playroom
Hoover and put away toys
Change and wash bedding (I know this was yesterday's job Blush)
DD laundry

And that's it! I'll try get back later!

NickNacks · 15/05/2012 09:33

Am shattered this morning :(

Peed off with DH as we both had to leave at the same time this morning, both got up late, difference is he sorted himself and left on time whilst I had me + 3dcs to get sorted and so was late.

So far have tidied the kitchen of breakfast dishes and put dw on. Also wm is on.
About to get me some breakfast and a cuppa.

Back soon :(

Flyingwithoutwings · 15/05/2012 10:56

Morning Smile
Dreadful sleep again (due to pain) but I'm back in office, unable to connect to the "shared service centre".... Wouldn't mind but I need to do my expenses for last week Angry

To do:
Clean bath
S&s
Get to bed early.

Ta da:
Erm..
Well I'm dressed & at work so that's it for now Wink

sanguinechompa · 15/05/2012 11:03

Crikey, that was close, Mnsnet was off-line for a while just then.. I nearly had to do some housework Shock Grin!!

[licks CarpeJugulum's wooden spoon. Percolates strong coffee for Toffee Nicknacks and Lauren. Commiserates over Castle's crow Sad]

Hope you were able to have a good, long sleep last night Bitchy

Great your dh is offering loads of support Flying And well done for getting to the bottom of the ironing pile! Sorry you are still in so much discomfort though x

Whoknows oh yes, pls keep me updated on next door's rabbits! I'd be interested to know if their garden survives, for future ref and all that ... It's true about the extra palaver which is why in the end I have almost decided to be sensible and go for more gps as they are so easy to keep. It's mainly for selfish reasons because dd is an 'only' that I feel it is important to have small furry creatures about. Would ultimately like to have a large furry creature with four hooves, mane and tail but urban living currently prohibitive!

Aw - thanks for saying "go for it" Swan - only a very few of the people I've consulted have done so!! Have told the breeder 'no' but still hankering and wondering whether to phone her up again (cue much eye-rolling from dh)

Engels well done re: the routines!!

Hope your lo is more settled today Feedmecake

Huge wing flaps to everyone else!

Well, I had better stir my stumps and do some basic tidying and cooking. (I'm a year older today and have the urge to do something frivolous but dh is under the cosh at work, the house is a wreck, dd has gone off to school exhausted from her school trip yesterday, and it's pouring with rain! Heigh ho, I am going over to a friend's tomorrow evening so that is something to look forward to... And I am very old so perhaps best to draw a veil as it were ...!! )

Hope you all have productive afternoons and those who are sleep-deprived/ailing feel better soon!

NickNacks · 15/05/2012 11:25

Happy birthday SC hope you have a lovely day- sod the housework! :)

BitchyInTheCorner · 15/05/2012 11:29

Happy Birthday SC!

I am not awake. Got woken by a phone call about 30mins before my alarm went off had had a good deep much needed sleep. Wasn't a good night's sleep though as stuggled to settle. But generally do when I am waiting for the alarm clock in fear of not getting up in time. And then not being able to get up because i am so tired. Hmm

Ta da
Up and out
Early training
write in ds' reading record.
Nap

Hope you all have good days or at least better then yesterdays. sorry I do read but my brain is mush and I don't remember

foad · 15/05/2012 11:35

My bloody kettle has died and tripped the electrics. How am I supposed to function without Brew? However, everything has an upside, I have spent all morning researching a new one online Grin. What do you think about a Union Jack one?!

DD2 still off sick - but not as sick. Made £75 at nearly new sale oooh can buy expensive designer kettle with that

Today
Do the bathroom stuff
Declutter Ds1's room (don't have spare room)
Find something for supper (what again?)
Try not to eat toast

Are we meant to have anything in this control journal (except inspirational quotes)? Did I miss something?

chompa Is a Happy Birthday in order? Thanks
Whoknows Ditto re the rabbits. DS1 is desperate for a pet of his very own (ancient grumpy cat doesn't count apparently).

Right. Off to boil a saucepan of water fly. Happy flapping everyone!

sanguinechompa · 15/05/2012 12:40

Aw, thank you everyone - especially all you horribly YOUNG people Grin Wink - [swigs imaginary champagne from bottle] but you should really be offering commisserations ...only two years to go before the big 5 O!!! Shock

Talk about brain mush ....Confused

hic

foad overview of control journal contents here

Flylady pdf download options thingy here

Other cj info here

hic

Er, think I may just go and work on Nicknack's suggestion .....Wink hic Wink

[Leaves opened magnum in ice on naughty corner ....]

sanguinechompa · 15/05/2012 12:43

Meant to add Foad that it works best if you adapt it to suit your own routines and the info you want. Eg, I have meal plans, lists for pet & house-sitters, lists of b'days & presents etc etc

And I can't spell commiserations Blush

BitchyInTheCorner · 15/05/2012 13:23

Shock sc really. In my mind you were at least 10yrs younger. despite other convos in the past that are now vaguely poking my memory Nah lie. You are only as old as you want to be. Wink

I hate double training days. I have washed kit only to repack it ready for later. Don't feel like i am achieving anything.
Coffee and bedding then the dreaded paperwork.

LinzerTorte · 15/05/2012 13:25

Just flying by to wish SC a very happy birthday. Smile

Must dash as I have small boys to teach (although I seem to spend more time trying to prevent them from killing each other Hmm).

laurenamium · 15/05/2012 13:28

Quick 5 minute gap between kids! Happy birthday sc!!

0 flying here apart from washing up and shining sink- the house looks like a toy bomb has gone off Sad

Be back later if I survive the afternoon!

BitchyInTheCorner · 15/05/2012 13:33

Grin linzer sounds about standard for little boys Grin

sanguinechompa · 15/05/2012 13:39

Aw, thanks everybody!!

[chinks glasses]

chin, chin and all that Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/05/2012 14:16

Happy Birthday SC

BlueEyeshadow · 15/05/2012 14:18

Ooh, happy birthday SC! Thanks

Strong Brew for Bitch, lauren and Linzer - I seem to spend most of my time stopping small boys killing each other too.

I have decluttered some stuff, although not much and done routines. Really ought to check out the links for today - didn't even know which zone we were in! Blush Oh dear, DS2 has been parked in front of CBeebies since lunch and it's getting on for school run time!! Blush Blush Better get off the computer...

Engelsmeisje · 15/05/2012 15:58

hi all.

have spent most of the day having unexpected (but lovely) coffee with a friend but,

ta da...

washing-up done
one load of washing now in td
5 minute room rescue of bedroom (hoovered, dusted and tidied)
5 minutes on hotspot (dining room table)
dr's appt made
ds's hospital appointment rearranged
filled in govt questionnaire
remembered to put garden waste out
paper recycling bin emptied
outdoor bin emptied

now can enjoy my new shoes that arrived today
DH is doing dinner, so maybe I'll do some decluttering for 15 mins Smile

I should pay some attention to the zone as well blue [hmmm]

Happy birthday sanguine btw, ben jij in nederland?

feetheart · 15/05/2012 16:17

Grin Grin Happy Birthday SC Grin Grin

I will NOT offer commiserations, you are younger than me, I hit the big 5 0 in about 3 months ShockShock

Need to make early dinner for Beavering/Brownieing DS/DD so best get on.

Flyingwithoutwings · 15/05/2012 16:38

Happy birthday SC Grin
How you've been spoiled.

I'm off home soon (computer not working AGAIN).

Topic of Qatar is up for discussion:
DH has a telephone interview coming up.
Deal breakers for us are: 6 day week, salary less than £50k (tax free + housing, medical, car and schooling)

So far we know: 5 day week and salary likely to be £60-£65k + all the benefits Shock

This could be a real opportunity (opportunity of what I am not exactly sure).
We could pay mortgage off in 10 years...
But I'd lose career & pension
But I'd gain a tan Wink

Flyingwithoutwings · 15/05/2012 16:39

Hope you've been spoiled Blush
Painkillers & iPhone don't work well together Blush

BitchyInTheCorner · 15/05/2012 16:39

Ta da:
Up and out
Fill in ds' reading record
early training
Washed Ds' bedding
Washed my training stuff
1 Load of normal washing
Paperwork - school stuff
School run and do something with ds
ds' hair cut
get ds to write birthday card and tackle homework not done and owed.
Evening training. - about to head out
ironing
15mins decluttering in my room
find home for new to me piece of furniture.
Sort out instructions for babysitter tonight

Only thing i haven't got done is the paperwork for tomo and I might tackle that post training - else it will wait until tomo.

Have good evenings!

CarpeJugulum · 15/05/2012 17:13

Happy birthday SC - may your Wine never be empty! Grin

Right, my to/ta-da list looks like

  • do a washing for DH & I - done
  • tidy & dust living room and dining room - done
  • tidy my bedroom - done
  • wipe round kitchen and lay away gadgets - done
  • make a chocolate cake - done

So pretty good for me really! Smile

DS loved his gymnastics, and had fun on his playdate - he's now having a treat of chicken fingers and chips Blush while watching Nina & The Neurons as it means I can sort the mess from the playdate. That and I find it quite interesting!

May be back later!

swanthingafteranother · 15/05/2012 17:34

well, here I am exhausted again [yawns from other flyers who heard it all before Blush

but, Grin Finished ds2 homework at last minute and got him to school when this was in doubt
productive afternoon with Reception in school library
taken dd to piano lesson
bought some groceries
dealt with my own screaming kids authoratively
bought raised bed kit for ds2
bought veg plants/seeds/bedding plants
ignored mud
exercise, vigorous walking, now feet hurt

otherwise, nothing useful, kitchen needs serious tidy as I have done nothing but chat to builder about politics whenever I went in there...Hmm

fence & builder is finished, now I have to get rid of the rubbish [sob] and the mud. Tomorrow has backed up again with two clashing appointments.

SC a old bookclub acquaintance was telling me she now owns a horse parttime which is stabled in a riding school. She literally owns it, but it is kept cheaply because they get the use of it when she is not in Wales. Ireland is now full of horses in rescue apparently because horse ownership was casualty of Celtic Tiger.
